FourFourTwo's Adam Monk is joined by Adam Clery, Mark White, and Ryan Dabbs for an elimination tournament to find out.
Transcript
00:00Hello viewers of 442, Adam Monk here, joined with Adam Cleary, my co-presenter, Ryan Dabbs
00:11and Mark White.
00:15And today we've got a little, a special format really, something a bit new, almost like a
00:18game show.
00:19This, imagine an FA Cup draw, this is the ball, the hat, whatever you want to call it,
00:24and we've got 16 names in here which are the best strikers in Premier League history, according
00:29to us.
00:30Anyway, in a knockout format, we're going to draw them out and progress in a sort of
00:34tournament tree style thing to crown the best striker in the history of the Premier League.
00:39Right, who wants to draw first?
00:40You going in?
00:41Rob Stewart.
00:42Do two?
00:43Yeah, two.
00:44Two.
00:45Okay, right.
00:46Our first round is, Eric Cantonaur, before my time, will play Erling Haaland, ooooh.
00:59Probably the first striker and the most recent one.
01:01Okay.
01:02In the list.
01:03Right.
01:04Are we doing longevity here?
01:05Like, what are we doing?
01:06Because Haaland's been in the Premier League for a season and a bit, hasn't he?
01:08Well we discussed this when we were including Haaland, didn't we?
01:10We were like, he's not been around long, but I think if Erling Haaland retires tomorrow,
01:15he already goes down as one of the best Premier League strikers ever.
01:17But does he go down as the best striker?
01:19Then Eric Cantonaur.
01:20That's what we've got to find out, Mark.
01:21That's what we've got to find out.
01:22The legacy of Cantonaur.
01:23So, Cantonaur actually scored the first hat-trick in Premier League history.
01:29That's quite good.
01:30But Haaland scored 20 of them or something, as he says.
01:33Yeah.
01:34But he's got no iconic celebration like Cantonaur, yeah, but it's not the, there are, there's
01:40no...
01:41He had the entire, yeah, that is true, that is true.
01:44Cantonaur had a bit more drip, but we can't rank it on that.
01:47Can we not rank, can we officially not rank on drip?
01:49If we're doing a drip ranking...
01:50I think there's an element of that, like, iconic player.
01:54Haaland's just...
01:55I think we're going to lose every single viewer over 45 here when I say this, but I don't
01:59think Haaland is a dripless footballer by any stretch of the imagination.
02:02He makes his look work.
02:03He's very marvellous.
02:04You know what I mean?
02:05I think he's got...
02:06That sort of Viking aesthetic.
02:07What about when he let his hair down to score against...
02:08That was, that was, that was pretty good.
02:10They're stuck on it.
02:11I think they're both iconic for different generations, though.
02:14Yeah.
02:15I think, right.
02:16I think, I think we've got to vote.
02:17I think we've got to vote.
02:18We've decided as well, by the way, that if we come to a tie at any point, the person
02:22who drew gets the deciding vote, so I'll go last.
02:24Right.
02:25I will actually go with Eric Cantona.
02:26Cantona?
02:27Yeah, I will.
02:28Mark?
02:29I don't think you can look past how iconic Cantona was for the Premier League, so it's
02:35got to be Cantona.
02:36Cantona?
02:37Cantona.
02:38I'm going, yes, full house.
02:39I'm sorry.
02:40Sorry, Erling.
02:41Sorry, Erling.
02:42Maybe next year.
02:43Oh, yeah.
02:44Almost certainly next year.
02:45Cantona, next round.
02:46Let's go with that one.
02:48Oh, I wanted to do that so badly.
02:50Jamie Vardy.
02:51Jamie Vardy.
02:52Ooh.
02:53Versus?
02:54Disney Plus' Jamie Vardy.
02:56Still going, no?
02:57Versus Fernando Torres.
02:59Oh.
03:00Can I just come straight in here and say it's Torres by a mile?
03:03What?
03:04No.
03:05How many consecutive games did Torres score in?
03:07I don't know.
03:08Lots, probably.
03:09Premier League titles has Torres got.
03:10Yeah.
03:11No, we're not doing accolades.
03:12We're not doing accolades.
03:13He couldn't handle the Ā£50 million move to Chelsea.
03:16He couldn't.
03:17Torres, Vardy was offered a big move to a big club and he turned it down.
03:20When?
03:21To Arsenal.
03:22Arsenal, yeah.
03:23Turned it down.
03:24Well, the thing is, I would say the main thing about being a striker is the ability to finish
03:28in the box.
03:29I don't think I've seen a more deadly finisher in the box than Vardy perhaps in the last
03:33decade.
03:34I just...
03:35In terms of variety of finishing, burning him behind defences.
03:38He was a roadrunner but the very best at it.
03:40I'm not saying that Jamie Vardy's not a good striker.
03:44I'd say Fernando Torres, when he was really good, was almost peerless.
03:49But this is the thing, when he was really good, Vardy had been at a consistent level.
03:55If you want to go down that route, then Fleetwood Town's Jamie Vardy can't hold a candle to
04:00Fernando Torres.
04:01This is the thing.
04:02I think Torres' peak was higher than Vardy's peak.
04:05Yes.
04:06I think Vardy...
04:07I can't argue with that.
04:08...had a more consistent high level.
04:09I can't argue with that.
04:11Another way to look at it is Vardy, I think he started scoring in the Premier League at
04:1427.
04:15Had he started at a normal age, maybe Alan Shearer's record wouldn't be there.
04:19He played in the Premier League at 27 and he's still got over 100 Premier League goals.
04:22Pretty mental, isn't he?
04:23Yes.
04:24For Leicester?
04:25Yes.
04:26Oh, I don't know.
04:27I don't know.
04:28I've got him moments as well.
04:29I just...
04:30With Jamie Vardy, there's about five or six.
04:31He goes to the Hawthorns and he's just there giving fans the front row.
04:34I'll tell you what, I will say the one black mark against Torres, compared to Vardy, in
04:38my opinion, he's got no crack.
04:40Whereas Jamie Vardy was just like, I mean, given that the Crystal Palace, he just loved
04:44it.
04:45And then maybe that.
04:46It's when Torres cut his hair.
04:47That's when he fell off a cliff.
04:48He Samsoned himself, didn't he?
04:49All right.
04:50Okay.
04:51Well, let's vote.
04:52I'm voting Jamie Vardy.
04:53Yeah, I'm going to go Vardy.
04:54I'm sorry.
04:55It's easy.
04:56I'll go Torres.
04:57See what you do.
04:58Well, I'm going to go Torres still, as you drew them.
05:02It's my casting vote.
05:03And I think, yeah, I've got to go with Jamie Vardy.
05:06Well, like I say, I think he's a world-class striker.
05:08Okay.
05:09Jamie Vardy.
05:10Okay.
05:11I've got Luis Suarez.
05:13Ooh.
05:14Deadly.
05:15Deadly.
05:16Deadly.
05:17And he will play...
05:20Attention.
05:21Robin van Persie.
05:23Yeah, that's closer than I...
05:24That's tight, that, isn't it?
05:26Same era as well.
05:27Yeah.
05:28I'll just say, as somebody who drew this, and as somebody who...
05:31Robin van Persie, I've celebrated many of his goals.
05:34He's dead to me.
05:36Okay.
05:38Luis Suarez.
05:39Okay.
05:40I've got to go with Suarez because, simply put, I think...
05:43Okay, I'm too young to remember Thierry Henry in the Premier League, right?
05:46Don't admit that.
05:47Don't admit that.
05:48I think that he is the best player I've seen in the flesh and live on TV
05:53in the Premier League in my life.
05:54Suarez.
05:55I can remember, yeah.
05:56And I include...
05:57I'm a City fan.
05:58I include Kevin De Bruyne in that.
06:00I include Ronaldo in that.
06:02I think he is...
06:03That 13-14 season is the best I've ever seen from a player.
06:06I agree with that.
06:07I'm just going to pop a cherry bomb down the toilet of this video,
06:10by the way.
06:11Robin van Persie won the Premier League.
06:12He did.
06:13And Luis Suarez never did.
06:14And he moved to win as well.
06:16You know what, though?
06:17As well, he won the Premier League by scoring a hat-trick
06:19in the game that won him the Premier League,
06:20and the volley was incredible.
06:22Yeah.
06:23It was offside.
06:24Yeah.
06:25All right, all right, sure.
06:26I'll put it this way.
06:27I think...
06:28We're talking about this version of Suarez at the age he was
06:31in the Premier League.
06:32I don't think he could have had the seasons Van Persie had,
06:35but I think Van Persie,
06:36if he'd been in that Liverpool team,
06:37could have been that important.
06:39Is there a case that we're viewing Suarez
06:41through the lens of what he achieved
06:43after he went to Liverpool?
06:45No.
06:46No, I'm not doing that.
06:47He did have a very, very good 13-14,
06:49but we're almost convinced that it wasn't a fluke
06:52by what he did when he left,
06:54whereas some other players in the Premier League...
06:57This is a great point.
06:58This is a great point.
06:59This is a great point.
07:01And then they've gone on to, like,
07:03Jerome Dridge, Barcelona, and left.
07:05This is a great point.
07:06Suarez had the ban for biting Ivanovic,
07:09so he actually started...
07:10You're right, he's a much better banter, isn't he?
07:12Great, yeah.
07:13He started the season in October,
07:15and out of the 31 goals he scored,
07:17none were a penalty.
07:18They were all open play goals.
07:19We're just going to have to vote Suarez.
07:23I'm going to go with...
07:25I think Robin Van Persie is almost the perfect striker,
07:29but I think Luis Suarez is just a better footballer.
07:32Van Persie.
07:33Van Persie.
07:35I'm going to go Suarez.
07:37I'm going to completely ignore
07:39all the points I've just made about Van Persie,
07:41and I am going to just go Suarez.
07:43By a hair.
07:44He's through.
07:45By a tooth.
07:46First one out is Sergio Aguero.
07:49Oh!
07:50Right, here we go.
07:51Don't be a bit moderate.
07:52Don't be a bit moderate.
07:53Michael Owen.
07:54Oh, Aguero, man.
07:56Aguero's watched movies.
07:57Aguero's seen more than three films in his life,
07:59I'm willing to bet.
08:00Yeah, but has Aguero won a Ballon d'Or?
08:02He's got you all on over a rabbit.
08:04I think you can't overlook Michael Owen in Liverpool.
08:06And a Ballon d'Or.
08:07So go with it.
08:08I would just like to say,
08:09based on my personal lived experience with Michael Owen,
08:11I can overlook anything I want to overlook.
08:13Is he that good?
08:14As a Newcastle fan, are we talking here?
08:16Oh, he's just an absolutely despicable human being,
08:19purely in terms of his...
08:20And let's not forget,
08:21that was in the Premier League,
08:22so it does count towards this decision-making process here.
08:26I just...
08:27I think Sergio Aguero
08:28is arguably one of the most transformative signings
08:31any football...
08:32He's a bit of Patrick Vieira for me,
08:33in terms of, like,
08:34a team went from X level to Y level.
08:37Not entirely off the back of one player,
08:39but Aguero,
08:40I don't think they make that leap
08:42from sort of, like,
08:43credible challengers
08:44to dominant Premier League winners
08:46without Aguero.
08:47And he also did it for, like, a decade.
08:49He did it, yeah, consistently.
08:50But he's got you in A-plus goals.
08:51Could you argue that Michael Owen coming through
08:54for Liverpool at that time
08:56transformed Liverpool from being sort of
08:59also-Rans...
09:00To also-Rans.
09:02Well, they won a treble.
09:04Oh, they won A-treble.
09:05They won A-treble.
09:06They won a treble.
09:07They won A-treble.
09:08It set them up for...
09:09It set them up for a Champions League win in 2005.
09:12Which he wasn't a part of.
09:16I know who I'm going to vote for,
09:17but I do think Michael Owen
09:18was a transformative figure
09:19for Liverpool in his own right.
09:21Potentially, yeah.
09:22Potentially.
09:23Look, he's in the deflated football
09:25of the 16 greatest strikers.
09:26He's obviously done something,
09:28but I just, I think...
09:31I think there's an argument
09:33that Sergio Aguero
09:34is one of the greatest ever
09:35Premier League players, full stop.
09:43Absolutely not.
09:44No, I couldn't.
09:45No, I couldn't.
09:46And I no longer take the kind of things
09:47that would enable me to do that.
09:48So, no, that's completely out.
09:50Aguero.
09:51Aguero.
09:52Aguero.
09:53Go on, you little...
09:54Go on.
09:57We've got...
09:59Andy Cole.
10:00I presume it's Andy Cole.
10:01It is Andy Cole.
10:02Andrew Cole will play...
10:05Will play...
10:08Thierry Henry.
10:09This is Cole cutting dry this,
10:10isn't it, surely?
10:11This is just...
10:12Do we even need to...
10:13So...
10:14I mean, Thierry Henry was a striker,
10:15so...
10:16Well, that's a good point.
10:17Question for the Arsenal fan.
10:18Andy Cole obviously had
10:19one of the most iconic
10:20and catchy songs ever
10:21in the Premier League sung
10:22about him.
10:23Andy Cole.
10:24Andy Cole.
10:25Andy Cole.
10:26He gets all his goals a goal.
10:27Andy Cole.
10:28Yeah.
10:29Did the honouree have any songs?
10:30Yeah.
10:31Were they good?
10:32No.
10:33So, Cole does have him
10:34beat on one criteria.
10:35He told me he'd seen
10:36the new Ian Wright,
10:37said to him,
10:38how could this be?
10:39He told me his name was
10:40Thierry Henry.
10:41That's actually...
10:42That's not bad, actually.
10:43That's actually not bad.
10:44Are we just...
10:45Are we not...
10:46Can we make any argument
10:47for Andy Cole?
10:48And he didn't score
10:49That is impressive,
10:50to be fair.
10:51And he was
10:52arguably as good
10:54at a mid-table
10:55Blackburn Rovers side
10:56as he was
10:57at the top of the league
10:58with Newcastle
10:59and Manchester United.
11:00I will say...
11:01So, he deserves his credit.
11:02I will just say here,
11:03when Andy Cole
11:04signed for Newcastle,
11:05I had never in my life
11:06seen a football player
11:08as good as that.
11:09I did not know you could
11:10be that good at football
11:11or be that...
11:12Like, granted,
11:13I was
11:14five,
11:15five or something, right?
11:16I was an idiot, right?
11:17I still believed
11:18in Santa.
11:19I'd not seen anybody
11:20at that point, really.
11:21But...
11:22Sorry, mate.
11:23But...
11:24When Thierry Henry
11:25signed for Newcastle,
11:26which never happened,
11:27that didn't happen either.
11:28So, Cole's got that
11:29on Henry for me.
11:30That's true, yeah.
11:31Thierry Henry
11:32has never done it
11:33at Newcastle.
11:34He's never done it.
11:35He's never done it
11:36at Keegan's Newcastle.
11:37But then,
11:38Andy Cole never did it
11:39at New York Red Bulls,
11:40so...
11:41Yeah, well...
11:42Henry...
11:43Henry for me.
11:44Best goal-cutter log in
11:45of any Premier League player.
11:46Oh, yeah.
11:47Andy Cole.
11:48Yeah.
11:49Agreed.
11:50We have got...
11:51Absolutely gagging
11:52for Shearer.
11:53Come out here.
11:54We've got Wayne Rooney.
11:55Oh, if it's...
11:56Don't be.
11:57Don't be.
11:58No!
11:59Right.
12:00It's been a while.
12:01It's been a while.
12:02In parallel worlds,
12:03Rooney replaced Shearer
12:04at Newcastle.
12:05Yeah.
12:06Yeah, that's true.
12:07But not in this one.
12:08And that's the one
12:09we're going to vote in.
12:10So, I'm just...
12:11I'm just going to set my
12:12score up really early here.
12:13Alan Shearer
12:14should win
12:15this entire thing.
12:16We'll get to this
12:17whenever we draw
12:18somebody you disagree
12:19with that with.
12:20Possibly even now.
12:21But I think Alan Shearer
12:22is the greatest striker,
12:23not only of his generation
12:24but the Premier League
12:25has ever seen.
12:26And there is
12:27a statistical tally
12:28where you can measure
12:29strikers.
12:30It's called
12:31goals scored.
12:32And he is at the top
12:33of that.
12:34He did it in some
12:35of the most
12:36rank-minging
12:37Newcastle sides
12:38I have ever seen.
12:39He got,
12:40as we discussed
12:41the other day,
12:42in work,
12:43because we do all
12:44have jobs,
12:45he scored over
12:46200 Premier League
12:47goals.
12:48He's won a
12:49Champions League,
12:50he won countless
12:51Premier League titles
12:52and you'll say...
12:53And he was also
12:54the most tactically
12:55neglected player
12:56on this list
12:57because half the
12:58time he was at United
12:59he wasn't really
13:00even played as a
13:01No. 9
13:02and still serve it
13:03came up with that
13:04much output
13:05off his own accord.
13:06And the one season
13:07he was put as
13:08a No. 9
13:09by himself
13:10two games
13:11in a row
13:12and he was
13:13the number
13:14one by himself
13:152009-10
13:16was like
13:17the best season
13:18he's ever had.
13:19Brilliant player.
13:20Ridiculous amount
13:21of goals.
13:22No argument
13:23for me.
13:24Brilliant player.
13:25I think Shearer
13:26is...
13:27We were chatting
13:28about this the other
13:29day and Shearer
13:30is so underrated
13:31as a football
13:32player
13:33that people
13:34seem to see him
13:35on TV
13:36and assume
13:37that he was
13:38this kind of
13:39poacher
13:40just in the area
13:41just sort of
13:42waiting for...
13:43He's so good
13:44at crossing
13:45the football
13:46and that gets
13:47lost
13:48and the way
13:49Rooney could do
13:50all of that
13:51the better.
13:52Yeah, I mean
13:53Rooney was a very
13:54If Rooney was
13:55better than Shearer
13:56my friend
13:57why wasn't he
13:58better than Shearer?
13:59100%
14:00Rooney was
14:01better around
14:02football
14:03than Shearer
14:04but I think
14:05that it's
14:06sometimes lost
14:07how good Shearer
14:08was.
14:09It's not
14:10that much.
14:11It's that much.
14:12He was a good
14:13style of player
14:14to sort of
14:15offset the injury
14:16and still was
14:17scoring 20-25
14:18goals a season
14:19off the back of that
14:20and I don't know
14:21who else could do that.
14:22I think Rooney
14:23hit a greater height
14:24than Shearer
14:25career wise.
14:26He did.
14:27Because you've got
14:28to think about
14:29the narrative
14:30in the country
14:31on a national level
14:32at the time
14:33when Rooney
14:34was in Europe
14:35in 2004
14:36then when he
14:37got injured
14:38for the 06 World Cup
14:39it was like
14:40a front page
14:41and he was
14:42the most important
14:43person.
14:44The whole nation's
14:45hopes
14:46rested on his
14:47Hey look
14:48if we want to
14:49go down that route
14:50Shearer was the
14:51sort of heartbeat
14:52of the team
14:53of the year in 96
14:54and they got further
14:55in that tournament
14:56we'll just have to vote
14:57and I am obviously
14:58voting for Alan Shearer.
14:59Right so we've got
15:00one for Shearer
15:01I again do think
15:02Rooney's a better
15:03footballer
15:04and if I was to
15:05rank all these
15:06I would probably
15:07have Rooney
15:08in the top four.
15:09This is the best
15:10Oh this is tough
15:11isn't it?
15:12I mean it doesn't matter
15:13This is what
15:14knockout football
15:15is all about mate.
15:16Rooney's knocked out
15:17anyway regardless.
15:18My head says Rooney
15:19my heart says Shearer
15:20but
15:22yeah it's got to be Shearer
15:23He's the
15:24We can't knock out
15:25Got to be
15:26Got to be
15:27We can't knock out
15:28the
15:29We can't knock out
15:30the leading scorer
15:31of the Premier League
15:32in the first round
15:33that's just
15:34Yeah
15:35Rooney
15:36Well good job
15:37that doesn't matter
15:38for anything
15:39Come on
15:42Harold Cain
15:43Oh
15:44Harry Cain
15:45Cain, Rooney and Shearer
15:46all out in a three there
15:48Versus
15:50Robbie Fowler
15:51Well Harry Cain
15:52Well yeah Harry Cain
15:53No Fowler
15:54Robbie again
15:55I would like to
15:56I was waiting for Cain
15:57to come out of the hat
15:58so I could go
15:59yeah but has he won
16:00the Premier League
16:01and Robbie Fowler hasn't
16:03I would like there to be
16:04some sort of
16:05consideration for how much
16:06pattern a footballer
16:07has in all this
16:08Robbie Fowler is obviously
16:09a high, high pattern
16:10but I don't think he's
16:11so high pattern
16:12that catches up
16:13with Harry Cain
16:14Has Harry Cain ever
16:15been nicknamed
16:16a god player
16:17No he's never
16:18Harry Cain's just
16:19he's tofu isn't he
16:20like there's nothing
16:21to him really
16:22he's just a really
16:23efficient scorer of goals
16:24Yeah
16:25and a very good
16:26footballer
16:27and a very
16:28like he's genuinely
16:29probably the best
16:30all round player
16:31on this list
16:32Yeah
16:33And had he
16:34had he have remained
16:35in the Premier League
16:36he would be taking
16:37if his grandmother
16:38had wheels
16:39she would have
16:40been a bike
16:41so that's not
16:42happened so
16:43Are we doing this
16:44quickly
16:45I would just
16:46if you are watching
16:47this Robbie Fowler
16:48I would just like
16:49to say there's
16:50been loads of
16:51names come out
16:52that you genuinely
16:53probably could have
16:54beat but there's
16:55there's just some
16:56players on this
16:57that unless they
16:58get drawn against
16:59Shearer
17:00lol
17:01aren't going
17:02through to the next
17:03round
17:04and Harry Cain's
17:05one of them
17:06Didier Drogba
17:07Oh I didn't
17:08forgot Drogba was
17:09in this
17:10Against
17:11Ruud van Nistelrooy
17:12Oh
17:13lol
17:14Can I make
17:15the opening
17:16statement
17:19Can you yeah
17:21If this was
17:22who was the
17:23best striker
17:24Which it is
17:25Well
17:26who's the best
17:27Premier League striker
17:28Oh right
17:29okay okay
17:30Ruud van Nistelrooy's
17:31Premier League career
17:32outweighs
17:33Didier Drogba's
17:34I'd agree
17:35Didier Drogba's career
17:36outweighs
17:37Ruud van Nistelrooy's
17:39I wouldn't say
17:40that's a given
17:41Final goals
17:42I wouldn't say
17:43that's a given
17:44Final goals
17:45What he did in
17:46Europe
17:47It's all around
17:48ability as a player
17:49but what Ruud van Nistelrooy
17:50did in the Premier League
17:51slightly outweighs
17:52Drogba's career
17:53Here's the thing
17:54I think going back
17:55to that thing
17:56I said about like
17:57how a player
17:58can come in
17:59and be very much
18:00the one who takes
18:01them from one level
18:02to another
18:03I know Drogba
18:04and Chelsea
18:05were that version
18:06of Man City
18:07for a long time
18:08I think they had
18:09won the league
18:10prior to that
18:11so they were
18:12a little bit further
18:13down the line
18:14but they weren't
18:15like a top top team
18:16you know what I mean
18:17they had enough
18:18about them
18:19they had Mourinho
18:20I think Mourinho
18:21had Kezman in his first
18:22season
18:23Yeah and Goodjohnson
18:24Goodjohnson
18:25there was enough
18:26there to get over
18:27the line
18:28but they weren't
18:29going to establish
18:30themselves as a
18:31consistent Premier League
18:32winning side
18:33I think there was
18:34Alex Salah
18:35coming in and being
18:36there
18:37Joe Coles
18:38there was lots
18:39of them that
18:40contributed to that
18:41but I think
18:42without Drogba
18:43who teams were
18:44terrified
18:45I think people
18:46forget how much
18:47teams were just
18:48scared of him
18:49so even in games
18:50where he wasn't
18:51I would argue
18:52even in games
18:53where he didn't
18:54score
18:55he took up
18:56so much of
18:57the opposition's
18:58attention
18:59of how do we
19:00just deal with
19:01Drogba
19:03It's tough
19:04I think this is
19:05the hardest one
19:06this
19:07Van Nistelrooy
19:08Drogba
19:09are you going
19:10to ask yourself
19:11if you were
19:12building a team
19:13your first pick
19:14had to be one
19:15of these two
19:16Well it depends
19:17if you have
19:18David Beckham
19:19or not
19:20because Beckham
19:21and Van Nistelrooy
19:22was just unbeatable
19:23it was
19:24it was just
19:25unbelievable
19:26I think the thing
19:27is as well
19:28with Drogba
19:29there's a bit
19:30of a notion
19:31that he was
19:32he could take
19:33three kicks
19:34and he scored one
19:35in the FA Cup final
19:36he scored three
19:37kicks at Arsenal
19:38I think he was
19:39far more technical
19:40than Van Nistelrooy
19:41as well
19:42Van Nistelrooy
19:43only scored
19:44one goal outside
19:45the penalty area
19:46in this entire match
19:47what a stat
19:48what a stat
19:49Harlan's got two
19:50for City
19:51so they're pretty
19:52similar aren't they
19:53I think we're
19:54just going to
19:55have to vote
19:56Drogba
19:57Drogba
19:58yeah
19:59come back to me
20:00no
20:02I think I'll go
20:03Van Nistelrooy
20:04I'll go Van Nistelrooy
20:05I think I'll go
20:06Van Nistelrooy
20:07do you know what
20:08reluctantly
20:09don't
20:10you can't vote
20:11Drogba out
20:12in the first round
20:13who
20:14Van Nistelrooy out
20:15who pulled these
20:16did you pull these
20:17so if I go
20:18Van Nistelrooy
20:19regardless
20:20I'm gonna
20:21I'm gonna go
20:22Drogba
20:23just so that
20:24everybody knows
20:25that this was a tie
20:26this was a tie
20:27and that's it
20:28for the first round
20:29so now we will go
20:30into the ball
20:31redraw them
20:32and see what happens
20:33right we're ready
20:34to go again
20:35I cannot believe
20:36Wayne Rooney
20:37and Didier Drogba
20:38out but they are
20:39for some reason
20:40you're drawing again
20:41haven't you
20:42so
20:43here we go
20:44please Ross Stewart
20:45hit it
20:46okay right
20:47your first
20:48quarterfinal
20:49Sergio Aguero
20:50will play
20:54Harry Kane
20:55oh no
20:58wow
21:00okay
21:01just as open
21:02as an opening argument
21:03and I think it's Aguero
21:04yeah I do
21:05I do think it might be Aguero
21:06I think it's Kane
21:07and I think it's quite
21:08it's close
21:09like the thing is
21:10it's quite close
21:11why do you think it's Kane
21:12I think it's Kane
21:13you think it's Kane
21:14I think it's Kane
21:15I think he was a
21:16a better footballer technically
21:17I agree with that
21:18but as a
21:19purely as a better striker
21:20I think he can do a lot more
21:21yeah
21:22he can pass the ball
21:23but he's not better technically
21:24than Aguero was
21:25when he was a kid
21:26how many
21:27this isn't me
21:28trying to trip you up
21:29how many golden boots
21:30did he wear out
21:31he only won one
21:32really
21:33yeah
21:34yeah but
21:35yeah but he's got
21:36he's got the best goals
21:37to game ratio
21:38in Premier League history
21:39he was injured
21:40he was injured
21:41for several months
21:42throughout several
21:43title winning seasons
21:44for City
21:45and we like
21:46for instance
21:47Pellegrini
21:48when we won it with him
21:49Tory had to step up
21:50in his shoes
21:51because he missed
21:52the second half
21:53of the season
21:54and he still scored
21:5520 goals
21:56in that season

26:18I know we all, I know we all get the thing about oh Suarez probably looks better than he was because of the team he was in
26:22and Van Nistelrooy was obviously, Van Persie, sorry.
26:25In the list.
26:26The two best footballers in the list are here right now, I would say that, yeah, I would say that.
26:29I would edge on Rui because of what he did in the Premier League.
26:32If it was over their whole career, I personally might say that Suarez edges on Rui,
26:36but purely in the Premier League, I think it's almost impossible.
26:41You could make a case that the 13-14 season from Suarez was better than any
26:45individual season that Thierry Henry ever has.
26:48I think you'd probably be wrong because he scored 30 goals in one season,
26:51he made 20 assists in another season.
26:53But you could make that argument, but again, I would say that's probably more a product of the
26:58fact that Suarez was in that team where it was all about him.
27:01Whereas Henry, yes, probably the best player in that invincible side,
27:05but surrounded by unbelievable football.
27:08Like Suarez was doing it with Joe Allen, you know what I mean?
27:10And like Henry was doing it with Patrick Vieira.
27:12And again, like you said, you remember Eric Cantona was like the icon of the 90s Premier League.
27:16The icon of the noughties was Thierry Henry.
27:18Yeah, I think we're all going Henry, aren't we?
27:21We're all going Henry, right.
27:23Okay, into the semi-finals, there is four left.
27:25We have Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and Eric Cantona,
27:29who's had a bit of an easy run.
27:31Tasty that, isn't it? Tasty that.
27:33Right, your first semi-final.
27:35Alan Shearer will play.
27:38It's got to decide, it's got to decide, it's got to decide.
27:40Oh no, the greatest striker in the history of the Premier League
27:42might get an easy ride through.
27:43Versus Henry.
27:48Why have you done that? That's the final.
27:50Why have I done that? Sorry.
27:54I mean, I've got to go with Thierry Henry.
27:55I think he's the best Premier League player of all time.
27:57And I don't, I think, I think your watch has ended.
28:02Right, can I just try and make the case here?
28:04Because don't get me wrong, I agree.
28:05I think this should be the final two.
28:07I agree with that completely.
28:09I would say again, Alan Shearer played for some of the worst football teams
28:14I've ever seen in my life.
28:15Thierry, you put Thierry Henry under Ruud Gullit and Kenny Dalglish
28:20and God bless him, Glenn Roda,
28:22and you see what happens to that man's goal scoring record.
28:25I don't think either of these men could have had the same career as the other one.
28:27They're two different footballers in different worlds,
28:30in different teams, with different abilities.
28:31But what I will say is, the adversity that Shearer had to go through
28:35to get that record, I think Thierry Henry doesn't get anywhere near.
28:39If you put the kind of challenges in front of Henry that Shearer had to overcome,
28:43I don't think Henry gets anywhere near the record, the career he's had.
28:46I don't think Shearer would have been able to do the French accent
28:48from the Bababoom up there.
28:49You don't know that. You do not know that.
28:52You do not know that.
28:52I also don't think Shearer would have been as good in the arsehole side as Henry was.
28:55Different team, different team though.
28:56I know it's a different profile, but like Henry is the only player
28:59I think I've ever seen in the Premier League where it's like,
29:02it's like, it's like a man playing against babies.
29:05Totally agree, totally agree.
29:06So far ahead of the rest.
29:08Yeah.
29:08For that, just on the eye test alone.
29:10Tell you what, I would have voted Shearer if he had more,
29:14if he had a better celebration.
29:15Just change it up.
29:16That's iconic.
29:16It's the most boring thing I've ever seen.
29:19It's not the knee slide though, is it?
29:20It's not the knee slide, just there.
29:21Look, look, Shearer was a product of Britain in the 80s.
29:25You grew up in a post-industrial town.
29:26They weren't worried about like dancing around corner flags.
29:29You were just bothered about putting the ball in the net.
29:31I thought he wasn't. I thought he was more than that.
29:33No, just...
29:34Right, we're going to have to vote on Ray.
29:37Is everyone going with on Ray?
29:38Honestly, everyone's going with on Ray.
29:39Well, I am going with, I am going, I went with Shearer.
29:43I went with Shearer.
29:44Well, Thierry's in the final.
29:47Sergio Aguero versus Eric Cantona.
29:54I mean...
29:55They're both similar in terms of how they've held their clubs.
29:58Yeah.
29:59Like, start.
30:00He's a transformative figure at Manchester Club.
30:02He's helped them go on and shape a dynasty.
30:04And I think the one thing that separates them is longevity.
30:08Which Aguero is.
30:09And I think probably about 100 odd goals.
30:11And 100 odd goals.
30:12Which is...
30:12Aguero was never banned for...
30:14For kicking a flag.
30:15You're right, that was really cool.
30:17That counts for counting off for me, not against him.
30:20Aguero would never have the bottle to do that.
30:22He would have just been like, oh, that man's being mean.
30:23Aguero two-footed David Luiz in the stomach at home at the Etihad.
30:28I did, I did.
30:28He was a hothead, Aguero.
30:29He did have that dog in him.
30:31Yeah.
30:32I mean, it's...
30:33Are you voting for Cantona?
30:34We know it's Aguero.
30:35We're all voting Aguero.
30:36We're all voting Aguero.
30:37We're all voting Aguero.
30:37If you're all voting Aguero, I'll vote for Cantona out of...
30:40He deserves a vote for this.
30:42A pity vote.
30:43As a nod to him.
30:43As a nod to him.
30:44He deserves a vote.
30:45As the coolest man on this list, he deserves a vote.
30:47Yeah.
30:47Right.
30:48So there we have it.
30:49Sergio Aguero versus Thierry Henry.
30:51In the final, could have gone a lot worse that, I feel.
30:54I think we've got two very, very big names and worthy names in the final.
30:58So...
30:59Do you want to just...
30:59I guess we'll draw.
31:00We'll see who the home player is, who the away player is.
31:03For sake of honouring the competition, so there he is, Sergio.
31:08And also, yeah, King Kun and Thierry...
31:13Henry.
31:13Oh, it says Alan Shearer.
31:15No way!
31:15Oh, we're going to have to honour the process.
31:18He's heated balls all over again.
31:20Well, it is Thierry Henry, so...
31:23I mean, it is Thierry Henry.
31:25It is Thierry Henry.
31:26Are we agreeing?
31:28Well, I think you can make the argument, certainly,
31:31because I think football changed so much between Henry and Aguero's era.
31:37I would argue they had similar impacts, similar records.
31:40I'd say it's actually far more impressive to think we've done it recently.
31:43Like the standards overall are so, so, so high now.
31:48And as well, the Premier League has changed so much.
31:50If you look at the other players that get brought in,
31:53like clubs like halfway down the league are going out and buying players
31:56that like the top clubs across Europe are all after,
31:58because they've got that kind of spending power now.
32:00To be at the very top of that league so consistently for so long
32:04is like, it's a different game.
32:06It's a different proposition entirely to when Henry was doing it.
32:09You know what I mean?
32:10And I think I'd honestly be tempted to go Aguero.
32:14As a City fan, I don't even know if I can.
32:17I don't know if I can.
32:18Has Aguero ever made anyone look silly?
32:20Like Henry made Jamie Carragher on multiple occasions
32:23like a very good defender.
32:25Look, like in Leaf 2 level.
32:28Yeah, he did.
32:29Kid, you know?
32:29He's just turning in his head.
32:31Yeah, look, he had Riz.
32:32He had Riz, whatever.
32:36Yeah, okay, I can't.
32:39I think my favourite on Regal is that flick up volley against United.
32:43Like Aguero doesn't have that in his locker.
32:45You wouldn't even think about that.
32:46Why is he thinking he can turn and volley?
32:49Mis-control it, obviously.
32:52Yeah, Aguero is probably...
32:54I do think Aguero was a better finisher in the box for what that's worth.
32:57Like I remember the goal he scored against Liverpool a couple of years ago
33:00where he was like on the byline
33:01and he smashed it through for the net against Alisson on his left foot.
33:04I will say that Aguero was much better in a penalty area than Thierry Henry.
33:08That's only because Thierry Henry barely played in a penalty area at all.
33:12He didn't need to.
33:13No, he drifted off left, like you say.
33:14He found that sad netting.
33:15Look, I will just clarify before I get absolutely roasted in the comments here
33:18that I absolutely think the answer is Henry.
33:20I'm just trying to see if we can make the case for Aguero.
33:22Final point on that.
33:23Final point on that.
33:24Henry, by his own admission, couldn't really cut it in a pep team.
33:28He was being asked to play in a position, like left wing, very rigid.
33:32He still won the treble in a pep team.
33:33He did, he did.
33:35Look, take it up with Thierry Henry, lads.
33:37This is not what I'm saying.
33:39He said he couldn't really cut it in a pep team.
33:41Whereas Aguero was a pep team.
33:43So how much stop?
33:44Aguero was being asked to play in a position that he's not...
33:47He had to adapt, though.
33:48Yeah, Aguero was told he had to adapt.
33:50His first couple of seasons under Pep, it was a little bit sticky.
33:53There was talk in 2016, in Pep's first season, that he was going to go in January.
33:58It was that bad.
33:58And like, he'd been completely frozen out of the team.
34:00This is before we had Gabriel Jesus.
34:02And then he came back and started under Nolito, if you remember Nolito as well.
34:07Do you remember Nolito?
34:08Yeah, so it was just disjointed.
34:10And then Aguero sort of glued it all together.
34:13But having said that, I mean, the best footballer I've ever seen in the Premier League,
34:17purely from YouTube, is Thierry Henry.
34:19And I was there, and it was still Thierry Henry.
34:21So it's got to be Thierry Henry.
34:23Thierry, Thierry, Thierry, Thierry, Thierry, Thierry.
34:26Well, there we go.
34:27Thierry Henry won.
34:28I don't think anyone can say that they're surprised, really.
34:31I'm certainly not, because I thought he would do when we started this.
34:34But it's nice to see, you know, who got near him.
34:37Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that.
34:38We'll probably be back with some more instalments, ranking wingers,
34:41centre midfielders, centre-halves, perhaps.
34:43So stay tuned.
34:45Hope you enjoyed it.
