00:00Allegedly, Luigi Mangione committed a murder, right? I think we are hoping to use this moment
00:09to talk about all the other kinds of violence and the other kinds of murder that are completely
00:14normalized in polite society by the mainstream media. Whether we want to talk about the US-backed
00:21genocide in Gaza that is killing thousands of men, women, and children every day and
00:27shows no sign of stopping, whether we want to talk about police violence in this country.
00:33Apparently, according to our research, one third of Americans who are killed by strangers
00:40are killed by the police, and that is disproportionately black and brown people.
00:44So school shootings is another big issue. This happens all the time. People are totally
00:51desensitized to it. It doesn't seem like the people in charge are going to take any kind
00:56of effective action against it. So we really want to spotlight the kind of murder and violence that
01:04is totally normalized by the society that elevates the value of some lives while greatly depreciating
01:13and discarding the value of others. Everybody deserves the right to a fair trial, including
01:20Luigi Mangione. I certainly hope that something comes of this. I obviously can't advocate for
01:28acts of violence of any kind, but I really do hope that people are inspired in this moment to
01:38keep the momentum going, keep the focus on our broken healthcare system, and all the ways that
01:45the system and the 1% consistently wages a downward-facing class war and treats people's
01:52lives like numbers on a spreadsheet. I can only hope that people engage in all kinds of mass
02:00action because the people in power have had many, many years to fix this, and they haven't done it
02:05yet. Real change, as we know historically, comes from the bottom up, not from the top down.
02:13So that's my hope for all of this.
