00:00People in Meridian are all backward, and they just want to keep doing the same things, the
00:07same way, forever and ever.
00:09Oh, I love that, a little taste of this show from MEC West, and we have the creators here
00:15with us, Dave Gallagher and Noah Gallagher, you may see a resemblance, this is a father
00:20and son team.
00:21I love this.
00:22Welcome to the show.
00:24This is so fun.
00:25I loved what we just saw.
00:26So tell us about it.
00:27What is that, and how do people watch it?
00:29It's called MEC West, it's a story about the Wild West, but we add robots, so it's an independent
00:35animated show.
00:36Okay, I love it.
00:37And you brought one of the robots here, I don't know if you can see it.
00:40Which one is featured right here?
00:41This is Six.
00:42Six?
00:43Okay, well it's all animated, but you got the real life thing right here.
00:47I love it.
00:48Okay, so tell me how this came together.
00:49How did this, hey, I'm going to work with my son on this, and do this big project.
00:53Well, it's associated with a school, an animation school here in Utah.
00:57So this was made, headquartered in Utah.
01:00We have a lot of students, and they make great work, and we decided to sort of put it together
01:05into a show.
01:07It's amazing.
01:08All that talent.
01:09I think it's amazing when people learn about animation, and how much work goes into that
01:12kind of a project.
01:13So much.
01:14Noah, did you always know about this, or what was your exposure to the world of animation?
01:18Yeah, I grew up in the world of animation, because my dad worked on animated films when
01:23I was growing up.
01:24Wow.
01:25Films like Ice Age and Rio.
01:26Oh my goodness.
01:27Wow.
01:28How cool.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Yeah.
01:31Well, we should find out a little bit more about all that.
01:32Tell us about some of your experience, and how that lends to this beautiful masterpiece.
01:36Well, we were running the school, and the students were doing great work, and we decided
01:43to make this story.
01:44It's about this young girl, Pearl, and she finds this mysterious new mech comes into
01:49town.
01:50Wow.
01:51And the other people in town, they don't really like mechs very much, but she really loves
01:54them.
01:55She treats them like pets.
01:56Okay.
01:57Yeah.
01:58And the first episode is now out.
01:59Yes.
02:00On YouTube.
02:01On YouTube.
02:02You can watch it for free on YouTube.
02:03Wow.
02:04Just search Mech West on YouTube.
02:05Okay.
02:06And you can see it.
02:07You know, we see all these big pictures, these big motion pictures with Utah as, you know,
02:08one of the main characters, and we see it right here in your animation.
02:12Exactly.
02:13Amazing.
02:14Yeah.
02:15How did you decide for that kind of a setting and backdrop?
02:16Oh, we just love the Southwest, you know, and I feel like it's not a setting that you
02:21see a lot.
02:22Right.
02:23And certainly in animation, you don't really see Western things, and we don't see like
02:26robots that look like they were designed in the 1800s.
02:29Yeah.
02:30It's pretty remarkable.
02:31So we hear about, you know, these big motion picture houses sponsoring these kind of movies.
02:37How is this one coming to be?
02:39Yeah.
02:40It's very different.
02:41You know, we don't have this sort of enormous backing that normally you would pour millions
02:45and millions of dollars in first, and so this is more of a trickle, and we're fan supported.
02:50Oh, how amazing.
02:51So this is all crowdfunding, a big campaign.
02:54Oh, a big part of it, yeah.
02:56Wow.
02:57Well, that's pretty interesting.
02:58How do you get people involved, or how do you tell people about what you're doing?
03:00Yeah.
03:01I mean, that's the challenge of being an indie project, you know, there's just pros and cons
03:06to being traditional versus indie, but with indie, yeah, we just send it out there and
03:11kind of hope people like it, hope we reach the right people, and so far we've been reaching
03:16a lot of people who seem to like it.
03:18And the comments are very favorable.
03:19The people who are watching love it.
03:21So we hope it really just takes off from there, Utah's own.
03:25How do people get involved, and how do they jump in kind of on the ground level and try
03:29to support you guys?
03:30Well, watching and commenting, sharing, that's number one for now.
03:36And we hope to do more crowdfunding campaigns in the future, and we're going to sell some
03:42merchandise and things like that.
03:43Oh, look at this.
03:44Okay, show us what you've got right here.
03:45Yeah, we have a couple toys here of some characters from the show.
03:49So you draw these, and then they become reality.
03:52That's really cool.
03:53Exactly.
03:54Big team involved, but yeah.
03:56And Noah's one of the writers.
03:57That's so neat.
03:58Oh, I love it.
03:59And so this all just kind of comes to be in real life form right here.
04:03So these are some of the things that are out there, and you can support the project.
04:06And somebody should just look it up by going MECHWEST, M-E-C-H-W-E-S-T, and you can find
04:13out more there.
04:14All right.
04:15Thank you so much.
04:16Thank you so much, Dave and Noah Gallagher.
04:17We appreciate you guys coming in.
04:20All right.
04:21We wish them the best success.
04:22And again, check them out if you can.
04:23Here's a look at sports.
