00:00Christmas celebrations are cancelled. There is no Christmas tree, no light, no decorations,
00:07no festivals in the street.
00:09This year, Christ is still under the rubble in Gaza. Christmas celebrations are cancelled.
00:14It is really hard to believe that another Christmas is upon us and the genocide in Gaza
00:19has not ended, said Rev. Dr. Manthar Isaac, a Palestinian pastor in Bethlehem in the occupied
00:27West Bank.
00:28O little town of Bethlehem has become O besieged town of Bethlehem.
00:33In solidarity with Gaza, Palestinians in Bethlehem are not celebrating Christmas for the second
00:39year in a row.
00:40A year ago, the Rev. Dr. joined other Christian leaders in abruptly cancelling Christmas celebrations
00:46in the city.
00:48If Christ were to be born today, he would be born under the rubble and Israeli shelling.
00:53Christ was not born among the conquerors or those with military power, Rev. Dr. said,
00:59but in an occupied country, which is what Palestine was 2,000 years ago.
01:05Welcome to Deep Dive with Outlook. Today is Christmas. War on Gaza continues.
01:10This is an age of war and there are many endless wars.
01:14In its latest Gaza situation report, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
01:19Affairs noted the attacks near or on the Al-Awada and Kamal Adwan hospitals in northern
01:26Gaza continued.
01:28Patients with treatable illnesses were reportedly dying in the enclave due to depleted medical
01:33supplies and lack of life-saving equipment.
01:37Since launching its war on the Palestinian territory in October 2023, Israel has blockaded
01:43and severely hampered the entry of food, water, medical supplies and other essentials into
01:49the Gaza Strip.
01:50The conflict has now claimed over 45,000 lives.
01:54Additionally, some 90% of the territory's 2.3 million residents have been displaced.
02:00UNICEF reported that more than 14,500 children have been killed in Gaza.
02:06Many thousands more are believed to be buried under the rubble.
02:10As winter peaks, the horror in Gaza continues with no end in sight.
02:15Over the past 16 years, items such as wedding dresses, cleaning sponges, baby bottles, diapers,
02:21lentils, pasta, juice, books, candles, cups, jam, shampoo and even donkeys have been banned
02:28in Gaza.
02:29Think back to 2008.
02:31Imagine a toddler craving chocolate, banned.
02:34A Palestinian girl needing crayons and stationery to draw a sketch on a A4 paper, crayons, stationery
02:41and even the paper itself, banned.
02:44Israeli authorities justified these bans as a means to pressure Hamas into stopping its
02:49attacks.
02:50But when the rockets seized, the bans persisted.
02:53In fact, they only intensified worse till there was no official list.
02:58Under intense international pressure, Israel eventually lifted restrictions on some items.
03:04But essential materials like cement and steel needed to rebuild wrecked homes remain banned.
03:10In Gaza, this story doesn't follow a rational or any trajectory.
03:15War on Gaza continues to rage, civilians continue to die and oppressive bans resurface again
03:21and again.
03:22War is ontological devastation.
03:24The war is never elsewhere.
03:26The war shows us who we are.
03:28The war is many things, economics, politics and more.
03:32But most importantly, the war is about people.
03:35Continuing from last year's year-ender, as wars rage across the world, we focus on
03:40never-ending wars, this anniversary issue, its impact, its survivors and its stories.
03:47In more than 100 pages, people tell their stories in their voices.
03:51Stay tuned for Outlook's anniversary issue.
