00:00It has been a huge 2024 for Yorkshire in the world of boxing and for the sport in general.
00:11We've seen two glittering careers come to an end. Josh Warrington hung up the gloves
00:15after a defeat to Anthony Kakaccia at Wembley and we also saw the end of the line for Sonny
00:21Edwards, a boxer who spent a lot of his career training under Grant Smith at Sheffield's
00:25Steel City Gym. With a fresh calendar year just on the horizon, we here at the Yorkshire
00:30Post have decided to take a look at some of the Yorkshire boxers to keep an eye on in
00:342025. One to definitely keep tabs on is Doncaster's very own Terry Harper. She kicked off the
00:40year with a defeat to Sandy Ryan, a loss that by her own admission impacted upon her love
00:44for the sport. But you know, dusting yourself off, going again, it's a tradition as old
00:48as time in boxing. She bounced back really well, became a three-way world champion with
00:54a win over Rhiannon Dixon. That got her the WBO lightweight title. And speaking of Doncaster,
01:00Maxie Hughes is someone that, you know, perhaps written off by some people, but he's really
01:04roared back from some setbacks. Two big wins in 2024. The second one, particularly crucial,
01:10came against a very impressive opponent in Gary Cully. And that's a win that arguably
01:15puts Hughes in the frame for a world title shot. So he could have a really big 2025.
