00:00Community Development is led by Ms. Celeste Apa and Ms. Tina Rama from Good Neighbors Philippines in the last part of the Sports Banter. Let's watch it.
00:17Ma'am, for everyone's knowledge, can we ask what is Good Neighbors and what is the goal of this organization?
00:30So, as mentioned, hello, good morning everybody. I am Tina Rama from Good Neighbors Philippines.
00:37So, we're actually a non-profit organization founded in South Korea in 1991.
00:42And then in 2008, we came here in the Philippines to serve the Filipino vulnerable communities here in the Philippines.
00:51Alright. But ma'am, can you elaborate on our goal or mission or objectives here in the Good Run?
00:59I believe we have a competition, right? A Good Run? A sports event, right?
01:05Yes.
01:06The Good Run. Can you tell us what is it all about?
01:10So, on November 24, in UP Diliman, we had our first ever race event, the Good Run 2024.
01:18Our goal, of course, is to inspire, unite, and create lasting change and impact in different communities.
01:25So, through the Good Run, we really aim to bring different good neighbors together
01:31to strengthen and champion the strengths of our communities that we work with
01:38and also to ignite people's commitment to social responsibility.
01:43Which we believe, though, we saw throughout the race because the people were really engaging with each other.
01:51It was a race event but they were cheering for each other.
01:55So, we were able to really unite people, hopefully, through the race event.
02:02I think it's a very beautiful thing that people enjoyed the race.
02:06In addition to that, what inspired you to make sports a positive change in the community?
02:22I think sports, in general, it has the power to unite people.
02:27Regardless of your age, where you're from, what your abilities are, sports really is that inclusive.
02:33And, in the same way, our goal for community development is that it should be inclusive.
02:41No one should be left behind in our vision for a better world.
02:46So, through sports, we were able to do that.
02:49Through sports, we were able to unite different people because we have children who ran 500 meters.
02:57Or 10 kids.
02:59Small kids.
03:01Small kids who really ran.
03:03And different ages, we have registrants who are 50, 56 years old and above.
03:08Seniors.
03:10Yeah, and we also have representatives from children with autism.
03:16With disabilities.
03:18Spectrum disorders.
03:20So, it's really inclusivity.
03:22Regardless of where you're from, what your age is, sports really is for everyone.
03:26Our goal as well, our dream of change, good change for the world, it involves everybody.
03:32So, through sports, we were able to, hopefully, we were able to give that message to people.
03:39Ma'am, is this The Good Run? How many people participated last November 20?
03:44Roughly 900 to 1,000 runners.
03:47Because it's not just runners.
03:49There were also parents who attended our The Good Market.
03:53Who were just supporting their children.
03:56Then, they listened to our advocacies, our programs.
04:00Because we also invited our sponsored children and our other beneficiaries who came from a far place.
04:07Even from Bulacan, just to support.
04:10So, there were families and runners at The Good Run 2024.
04:14So, you really came together.
04:16That's why it's called The Good Neighbors.
04:18Very good.
04:20So, they also want to be neighbors.
04:23I hope we can.
04:26What are our upcoming activities, ma'am?
04:30Do we have next sports run events or whatever?
04:35Actually, this isn't our first time.
04:37Because in 2023, we also had our shooting star.
04:41It's a basketball.
04:43We were able to invite different public schools in Rizal.
04:48The kids there, the MVPs who won.
04:51With their inspiring stories, we were able to provide them with monetary help and support.
04:57To support their passion in basketball.
05:00So, that was our first time.
05:02And now, we had The Good Run 2024.
05:05And next year, hopefully, we'll have another The Good Run for 2025.
05:10Alright, ma'am.
05:12Can you elaborate on our next tournament next year?
05:15Do we still have sports events?
05:18Actually, our goal is to do The Good Run every year.
05:22Because it was really helpful for Good Neighbors.
05:26Since we saw the success of our recently held activities.
05:30So, we wanted to leverage that to amplify our campaigns and advocacies.
05:35Hopefully, we'll have more participants.
05:38Yes, yes.
05:40Alright.
05:42How do our participants and individuals get involved?
05:47Actually, at Good Neighbors Philippines, we offer multiple meaning ways for individuals and even companies to get involved.
05:54So, our opportunities range from skill-based opportunities and even community, hands-on community engagement.
06:00So, if you are a professional with expertise in the areas of education, health, environment, disaster risk response, and livelihood.
06:09So, we encourage you to work with us because we do capacity building workshops in our communities.
06:16And of course, we offer hands-on engagement.
06:19So, we also invite volunteers to our field activities and community events.
06:25So, those are our volunteer opportunities.
06:28Ma'am, I have a question.
06:30Anyone from you can answer this.
06:32Where do we get our funds for Good Neighbors?
06:37Where do we get our funds for helping other people?
06:42Actually, Good Neighbors, since we mentioned that we are an international organization.
06:47So, our sponsors, we have sponsors from Korea.
06:51So, they provide funds to different field countries that implement programs and services.
06:57And also, here at Good Neighbors Philippines, we also do our local fundraising.
07:02So, we partner with individuals.
07:04We partner with companies, corporate foundation, and even government.
07:08They entrust us.
07:10They support our programs and services.
07:12So, that really helps us to continuously provide services for our community members.
07:18That's very well said, Ma'am.
07:19But here, Ma'am, what is our reason?
07:24Since Good Neighbors was established,
07:27but what is our reason here in the Philippines to have an organization that helps other people?
07:38She's lecturing.
07:40So, as we mentioned, in 2008, when Good Neighbors came,
07:44we started helping during the typhoon, the affected communities.
07:48By that time, I think here in the Philippines, our goal is really community development.
07:54I think that's why also we started the Good Run in building really a community of runners.
08:00Because our goal is really community development.
08:03Because the change that we envision for the youth, for those who have dreams,
08:08even the young athletes who are dreaming,
08:11it requires a holistic approach in supporting their dreams.
08:15So, if you have a dream to become a basketball player,
08:19you need support from your community.
08:22For example, if your place is vulnerable to disasters,
08:27or your family's condition is vulnerable because of financial problems,
08:32that's what we want to work on.
08:34Economic development, ensuring that the communities are safe
08:39through our anticipatory action and other disaster resilience projects.
08:43It's really a holistic approach.
08:45It takes a whole community, a whole Good Neighbors.
08:48It takes a village.
08:50A Good Neighbors to make it happen.
08:52It's also good that we are incorporating sports events in our plans.
08:56Alright, thank you very much Ms. Celeste Apa,
09:00fundraising manager of Good Neighbors Philippines,
09:03and Ms. Tina Rama, communication officer of Good Neighbors.
09:08And that's where our story ends for today.
09:11Teammates, join us again tomorrow.
09:14I'm Rafael Bandayrel, and this is PTV Sports.
