00:00Standing tall in Strude for 125 years, the Gordon's Children's Academy celebrates its anniversary by taking a step back in time.
00:08The community was welcomed to look at the history and for some to reminisce their time there.
00:12With students and staff re-enacting what their school was like over a century ago, it demonstrated how learning has changed over the years.
00:19It's been a fantastic opportunity for the children to really connect with the history of our school.
00:25Really thinking hard about the fact that 125 years ago, children stood in the same spot that they're standing in today, in a very different world.
00:33And I think that's been quite a powerful experience for them.
00:36They've really enjoyed connecting with the heritage of this building.
00:39And yeah, thinking about the ways in which our world and country and community have changed in 125 years.
00:45And the teachers dressed and taught the part, with etiquette lessons, Victorian outfits and some tricky maths questions.
00:53What's two times three?
00:54Six.
00:55Good.
00:58You boy, 15 times 225.
01:01But what do the students make of the old methods?
01:04It gives us an opportunity to learn about what our school's past was like, and I feel like that's important to every single student here.
01:13I feel like it was quite interesting learning about it, because it was obviously normal to them, but it's completely different to us now.
01:22With the halls filled with popular Victorian music,
01:31and artwork inspired by the late 1800s, each student has left their mark on the school for many more years to come.
01:38So for our 125 year anniversary, we got the children all to contribute to creating these mosaics.
01:44We've still got the work from the 100 year celebrations that we've displayed elsewhere in the school,
01:49but the children have all had a part in being part of these mosaics that will be part of the school for a long time.
01:55And they've been really excited about the fact that they have all had the opportunity to lay a tile.
02:00They were created from a mixture of student drawings, and three have been completed and are now part of the school.
02:06The last mosaic has been placed here so the community can come and be a part of the history by placing their own tile.
02:11Taking part, I placed my own tile. Once this mosaic has been completed, it will join the others and become a part of the school.
02:18And with the big reveal of the other three plaques, they hope they will remain there for more centuries to come.
