00:00Hi there, welcome to the final episode of putting Dr. G on the spot in the month of
00:05December and the last episode in the year 2024.
00:10So sometimes we worry that for somebody having erectile dysfunction, whether it's all in
00:15the mind or something organically is happening below the waist.
00:21So there is this concern that early sign of poor health actually will manifest itself
00:28as erectile dysfunction.
00:30Is there any truth in it?
00:31In fact, there's a lot of truth in it.
00:40So let's imagine that erectile dysfunction can manifest itself with narrowing of the
00:45artery.
00:46And that narrowing of the artery can be induced by many things such as smoking, alcohol, atherosclerosis
00:54can induce by diabetes, can be induced by high blood pressure and also high cholesterol.
01:01And all these can contribute towards narrowing of the artery.
01:05And if you imagine that the diameter of the penile artery is significantly smaller than
01:11coronary artery and also arteries to the brain, carotid arteries.
01:16So as a result of this narrowing, somebody who actually have erectile dysfunction perhaps
01:22will manifest itself first and then later on might end up having problems such as a
01:29heart attack and a stroke.
01:32In fact, a researcher called Montosi actually proved that point to suggest that perhaps
01:38men who started having erectile dysfunction, it's a barometer of poor health for subsequently
01:45developing heart attack and stroke.
01:48There are a few more studies suggesting that 57% of men presented 18 months prior to the
01:56heart attack actually had erectile dysfunction and about 60% of men about 18 months to two
02:04years prior to the stroke also presented with erectile dysfunction.
02:11So on that basis, we know that the penile artery is a good barometer for early problems
02:19for coronary artery disease and therefore protection is very important when somebody
02:26ended up having erectile dysfunction.
02:29On the other hand, if someone having sexual dysfunction, they also can create a lot of
02:34stress, low self-esteem and that itself might push up the blood pressure and actually have
02:40impairment on their quality of life and their overall health.
02:44So the protection of sexual health is not just for the actual improvement in bedroom
02:51performances, it is also improvement of the overall health.
02:56So next time when I see a patient with erectile dysfunction, I always tell the patient the
03:02early sign of a broken heart is a sign of a broken heart on.
03:08For the year 2025, we are going to venture into a healthy year.
03:13So I'm going to talk about different new year resolution is going to make yourself,
03:18your sexual health and your prostate health much better and what is more important to
03:23talk about is diet.
03:25What sort of diet should you embark on in order to protect your prostatic health?
03:29If you are interested, stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
