00:00At Ask Weekly, we believe that the higher your IQ, the greater your need for celebrity stories.
00:06It may sound counterintuitive, but after decades of working as an entertainment journalist,
00:11I've seen it time and time again. Lawyers, scientists, executives, some of the smartest
00:17people I've met are drawn to celebrity stories to help them unwind their busy minds.
00:22And research backs this up. Gossip isn't frivolous. It's essential for connection,
00:27escapism, and even self-care. Entertainment, celebrity, and pop culture aren't just
00:33indulgent distractions. They're a vital service. In a tough world, our stories offer intelligent,
00:39fun escapism that readers consider indispensable. I even interviewed the world's smartest person,
00:45Young Hoon Kim, to find this out. The average IQ in the world is around 100, and he has a
00:50record-breaking IQ of 276. And even he admitted his love for news and stories from the celebrity
00:57and entertainment world. It helps a lot with his anxiety. So reading about celebrities helps
01:03you relax, but it also can make you smarter. Stanford and the University of Maryland research
01:08has even found that gossip strengthens social bonds and improves cooperation.
01:12So in this week's issue of Ask Weekly, I commissioned our amazing writer, Isabel Mohan,
01:17to do a year in review and reflect on the lessons we learned from the year in Ask Weekly news.
01:23The piece is in this week's issue, and it shows we've learned so much from these celebrities.
01:27Beyonce's country transformation wasn't something we saw coming, but
01:31in February, Texas Hold'em dropped, followed by a whole Cowboy Carter album a few weeks later.
01:37Her decision to celebrate her Houston roots was divisive at first, but the album has since
01:41been credited with boosting the appeal of country music to a whole new audience.
01:46And what did we learn from Beyonce? Don't be afraid to leave your comfort zone and try new
01:50things. It's something we should all take on board. In June, Lana Del Rey met her now-husband,
01:56airboat tour guide Jeremy Dufresne, and then got married to him in September.
02:00A superstar singer finding her husband on an alligator swamp tour. It shows that we should
02:06all be open to looking for love in unlikely places, not just on dating apps.
02:11We also learned very important lessons from celebrities this year.
02:14Over the summer, actress Danielle Fishel revealed that she'd been diagnosed with
02:19early-stage breast cancer during a routine mammogram, and she admitted she skipped her
02:24regular check-ups and implored other people to always keep your doctor's appointments and
02:29prioritize health. It was a great year for Jelly Roll's music career, but the country rapper has
02:34been honest about how much he regrets his early life of crime. In an interview, the star said
02:39he wishes he could apologize to the people he robbed in his teenage years.
02:43I had no business taking from anybody, he said. It's just horrible. This emphasizes for all of us
02:48it's never too late to ask for forgiveness. And of course, we learned so much from Taylor
02:53Swift this year. What even was this year without the heiress tour? After 152 shows,
02:5822 countries, 51 cities, 20 months, 46 songs, and approximately 9 billion friendship bracelet beads,
03:07Taylor Swift's juggernaut finally ground to a halt on December the 8th in Vancouver.
03:12And we learned, don't be sad it's over, just be happy that it happened. There's so much to learn
03:18from following celebrities in entertainment news, so while knowing every Vanderpump Rule cast member
03:23and who they dated might not score you a doctorate, there's certainly no guilt in loving it. Celebrity
03:30stories are our cultural connections, and Us Weekly will keep delivering them 24-7.
