00:00Thirteen Filipinos who were made surrogate mothers in Cambodia are now returning to the Philippines
00:05after getting a job in Thailand.
00:07According to the DSWD, they are considered victims of human trafficking
00:11and will be given counselling and transportation to their respective provinces.
00:16Here is the latest news from MAV Gonzales.
00:22Thirteen Filipinos are still traveling to Cambodia to work.
00:26But when they return to the Philippines, how many of them have children?
00:30One of them is a month old.
00:32They were recruited online to be surrogate mothers
00:35or the people who are brought in for the children of others.
00:38According to the Department of Foreign Affairs or DFA,
00:41they are among the 20 Filipinos who were caught by the Cambodian authorities in September.
00:46Surrogacy is prohibited in Cambodia where they were brought
00:49instead of Thailand that was promised to them.
00:52They will not know each other if they go to Thailand.
00:55The payment is 10,000 to 12,000 dollars
00:57as long as the child can be delivered.
01:00They are not the egg cell of the sperm cell.
01:03Seven of them were the first to return to the Philippines
01:06but 13 were left there and were charged.
01:09On December 2, they were convicted of human trafficking.
01:13But on December 26, they were given royal pardon in Cambodia.
01:17This is part of the agreement.
01:20They will sell their babies and bring them home as their own.
01:25We registered them as Filipino citizens.
01:30The Interagency Council Against Trafficking or IACAT is investigating the Filipino recruits.
01:36For now, this is the only case where many Filipinos were involved in surrogacy.
01:41The women are worried that their recruits will chase them away.
01:45They will stay in a facility of the DSWD.
01:48According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian,
01:51they are considered victims of human trafficking.
01:54They will be given all the assistance including counseling
01:57and transportation to their respective provinces.
02:00They are in good condition.
02:02The first intervention we are giving them is temporary shelter
02:06because it is important that they have a place to stay
02:09where we have professionals there, social workers,
02:12who can give them psychosocial intervention.
02:15We will also make sure that their families will be contacted.
02:18This is the first news.
