00:00Decency. Decency. President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Sunday after the
00:07death of former President Jimmy Carter. When taking questions from reporters, he
00:11was asked what President-elect Donald Trump should take away from Carter's
00:15legacy. Decency. Decency. Decency. Everybody deserves a shot. Everybody.
00:27Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking by someone and you need something to just
00:32keep walking? Can you imagine Jimmy Carter referring to someone by the way
00:38they look or the way they talk? I can't. I can't. You know, I think the end of the
00:48deal here is that one of the reasons why we're looked to by the rest of the
00:53world, the bulk of our our nation, we've laid out what our values are. You said
01:03what we believe. It's not just in the declared we hold these truths to be
01:07self-evident, but there's a feeling. The rest of the world looks to us, looks to
01:12us, and he was worth looking to. Earlier in his speech, Biden had spoken about
01:18Carter's character. When I endorsed him for president, I told him why I was
01:25endorsing him, and that it was not only his policies, but his character, his
01:31decency, the honor he communicates to everyone. And but he was also very, very,
01:38he and Rosen were very kind to Jill and me when we lost my son Beau. They were
01:43there for us. And I don't know. It's I think what Jimmy Carter is an example
01:54of is just simple decency, simple decency. And I think that's what the
02:03rest of the world looks to America for. Meanwhile, President elect Trump issued
02:07his own statement on Carter's death, writing in part, those of us who have
02:11been fortunate to have served as president understand this is a very
02:15exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of
02:19leading the greatest nation in history. The challenges Jimmy faced as president
02:23came at a pivotal time for our country, and he did everything in his power to
02:27improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of
02:31gratitude.
02:41Mhm.
