00:00Marvin Gaye was visiting his parents home here in Los Angeles. There was a family argument.
00:04Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the harrowing facts that you
00:08may not have known about some famous singers. In the early years, when I was 14 and 15,
00:13no, you didn't like to share him, but you did. You understood he was Elvis.
00:1910. Eric Clapton's Lineage
00:21Well, I'm a motherless child who don't know right from wrong.
00:27From his decades-long career in bands like The Yardbirds, Cream, and Derek,
00:31to his iconic guitar style, Eric Clapton is a rock music icon. While his talent and musicianship
00:37gained him fans in the early days, the internet helped give later fans access to everything they'd
00:42want to know about the English rock and bluesman. However, Clapton didn't always know everything
00:48about himself growing up. I knew that I was different.
00:51I knew that other kids at school regarded me as different, or maybe inferior,
00:56and I did have a massive inferiority complex.
00:59Till he was 9, Clapton thought his grandmother and step-grandfather were his parents,
01:04and his mother was his sister. His mother was 16 and unmarried when she had him,
01:08while his father was a Canadian soldier who returned to his home country before Eric was
01:12even born. Clapton reportedly only found out the truth when he overheard a neighborhood conversation.
01:189. Eminem's Family Lawsuit
01:34Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, has been praised in the music world for his honest
01:38and hard-hitting rapping. One person quite close to him, however, was not too fond of his music.
01:47In 1999, Eminem's mother, Debbie Mathers, sued him for over $10 million.
01:59She claimed that the lyrics in his songs, particularly from the Slim Shady LP,
02:03where Eminem accused her of using substances and neglecting him, are untrue and defamatory.
02:18Ultimately, the case was settled, with Debbie being awarded $25,000,
02:24which only amounted to $1,600 after her legal fees.
02:298. The Death of 50 Cent's Mother
02:31Fans of Curtis Jackson, known professionally as 50 Cent,
02:35will tell you that growing up was far from easy for him.
02:38Much of the rapper's music covers themes such as street life,
02:50survival, and poverty, with these struggles starting quite early in his life.
02:54In the early 80s, when 50 was only 8 years old, his mother, Sabrina Jackson,
02:58died in what was a suspected homicide.
03:07It's believed that Jackson was drugged and left unconscious in her apartment
03:20before it was set on fire. Unfortunately, no arrests were made, and her killer remains
03:24unidentified to this day. After his mother's murder, 50 moved in with his grandparents,
03:29where he lived with eight other relatives.
03:377. Whitney Houston's Sexuality
04:01Although Whitney Houston will be forever known for her cover of I Will Always Love You,
04:05we may not ever know the full extent of the late singer's personal life. Despite rumors and the
04:10scrutiny surrounding her close relationship with longtime friend Robin Crawford, Houston never
04:15fully addressed her sexuality before her death. In 2019, however, Crawford confirmed that she
04:20and Houston had shared a romantic and physical relationship when they were younger.
04:35In her memoir, A Song For You, My Life With Whitney Houston, Crawford goes in-depth about
04:40how their relationship ended due to concerns it could affect Houston's career and pressure from
04:45her religious mother. 6. Britney Spears' Conservatorship
05:06For 13 years, pop princess Britney Spears was forced to live under a strict conservatorship,
05:16controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. Despite releasing multiple albums,
05:20touring worldwide, and headlining a Las Vegas residency, Spears had almost no autonomy.
05:26She had no control over any of the money she was earning, and wasn't even allowed to drive a car.
05:35At court proceedings, Britney testified that she had no control over her funds,
05:49she had been abused, and given substances without consent, urging the court to hold
05:53those responsible accountable. As of today, Britney's conservatorship has ended,
05:58and she has regained control of her life. That court hearing proceeded without a single
06:02objection from anyone involved, including Britney's father Jamie. But Britney could
06:07still have more of a fight ahead of her, because as she said, she wants to see her father in jail.
06:125. John Lennon's Violent Marriage
06:30The late Beatles singer was known to propagate peace and activism through his musical career,
06:35with iconic songs such as Imagine. However, this was not always the case in his personal
06:39life when he was younger. John Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Powell, has opened up about John
06:44hitting her early on in their relationship. She described how she lived in fear of his temper
06:58during their time together, in multiple interviews and in her book John. The musician
07:03himself admitted that he was a hitter during a Playboy interview, just two days before his death.
07:154. Steven Tyler's Assault to History
07:17You know, when I went to this last rehab, they said,
07:21you gotta be careful with your grandiosity. Really? That made me who I am.
07:27Rock star Steven Tyler is best known for his flamboyant outfits and high-pitched screaming
07:32as the lead vocalist of the rock band Aerosmith. His androgynous vibe and
07:36impressive on-stage acrobatics help make the singer's performance unforgettable.
07:40Unfortunately, these tend to overshadow his dark past.
07:43He was making a lot of money for a lot of people. He had a very successful career,
07:48and I remember that he really was able to live his life above those kind of questions.
07:55In 1973, Tyler became involved with and obtained legal guardianship of the then-teenaged Julia
08:02Holcomb, bringing her to his Boston home when he was 25. Fast forward to 2022, where Holcomb
08:08sued Tyler for sexual assault, a forced termination of pregnancy,
08:11and supplying her with substances over the course of a three-year relationship.
08:16I just couldn't imagine my life without him, and I was so young. I just really
08:24gave in at that point, and that was where the worst ordeal began.
08:303. Elvis Presley's Inappropriate Infatuations
08:39As Elvis Presley rose to fame, he cemented himself as a worldwide heartthrob,
08:43lauded for his crooning singing style and his charming appearance.
08:47The right age to be an Elvis girl, however, appeared to be 14.
08:51There was a series of 14-year-olds, and up until, really, he was 40.
08:57Yeah, no, it never stopped.
08:59While touring and making movies, the king of rock and roll would seek out teenagers to spend time
09:04such as Frances Forbes and Sandy Farrah.
09:06Held my hand, kissed me on the cheek, and he was absolutely gorgeous.
09:13And then he called and said he wanted to date me, and my mother said,
09:15I don't care if you're King Farouk, my daughter's only 14, she doesn't date.
09:19The truth about whether or not these relationships were consummated depends on who you ask.
09:23His future wife Priscilla was also only 14 when she met 24-year-old Elvis.
09:28After their daughter Lisa Marie was born, Elvis was allegedly also involved in other
09:33inappropriate underage relationships.
09:36He just mentioned to me that it took him back to his younger years,
09:40made him feel alive to where he just didn't like, I wasn't expecting much from him.
09:46Number two, Axl Rose's troubling childhood.
09:56At age 17, Axl Rose discovered that the man he thought to be his father
10:00was actually his stepfather,
10:01the man his mother married following his biological father's departure.
10:05Unfortunately, this wouldn't be Rose's only disturbing revelations from childhood.
10:09It was real hard to do the song It's So Easy because there's a line in there,
10:12I drink and drive and everything's in sight.
10:16We were talking about kind of how we got away with things and we're lucky to be here.
10:20Therapy Later in Life would unearth the Guns N' Roses singer's alleged memories
10:23of being sexually abused by Rose Sr.
10:26His life growing up with his mother and stepfather was also reportedly violent.
10:30Rose regularly found himself in trouble with the authorities
10:33and finally left home for Los Angeles in his late teens.
10:36Many of these experiences are reflected in his music,
10:39in songs such as It's So Easy and Welcome to the Jungle,
10:43which tackle themes of survival and resilience.

11:22Between the ages of seven and his teenage years, Marvin Gaye unfortunately suffered
11:26much physical abuse at the hands of his father, Marvin Gaye Sr.
11:30The singer's father was extremely strict and religious,
11:33using his belt as a whip to discipline him.
11:35His childhood upbringing eventually led him to enlist in the U.S. Air Force as a teen,
11:40but his tenure was brief and he would soon turn to music.
11:50Sadly, Marvin Gaye Sr.'s violence towards his son did not end when he became an adult.
11:55On April 1, 1984, Marvin Gaye was shot twice and killed by his own father
12:01when he got in the middle of a fight between his parents while he was at their home in California.
12:05Police say the singer and his father started arguing over insurance matters Saturday night,
12:10resuming the argument Sunday.
12:12Marvin Gaye Sr. is expected to be arraigned sometime this week.
