00:06in New Orleans' French Quarter in the early hours of New Year's Day.

00:09Here's everything we know about the attack.

00:11At 3.15am on New Year's Day,

00:1442-year-old Shamsa Dinjabar drove a Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck

00:18at high speeds into celebrating crowds on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

00:22A total of 15 people, many of them local, were killed in the attack

00:26and dozens more remain in hospital.

00:28A well-known American college football player,

00:30a young aspiring nurse and a mother of a four-year-old are among the victims.

00:34The Texas resident and US Army veteran then opened fire on police,

00:38injuring two officers before he was shot and killed at the scene.

00:41Investigators are now working to determine a motive behind the attack,

00:45with authorities claiming that ISIS may have inspired the attacker.

00:48Homemade pipe bombs were also reportedly found at the scene

00:51and there are growing suspicions that he didn't act alone.

00:54In the hours before the attack,

00:55Dinjabar had posted videos to social media

00:57saying he was inspired by the Islamic State group and expressed a desire to kill.

01:02New Orleans' police superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said,

01:05this is not just an act of terrorism, this is evil.

01:08President Biden has described the incident as a despicable and heinous act.
