00:00I know you're a huge Swifty like I am, so I made you a little good luck present for
00:04the Golden Globes.
00:05No way!
00:06That's the best hose!
00:07That's so nice, thank you!
00:11It's time to roll out the red carpet for awards season.
00:14I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter here at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and we're
00:18talking to Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser and the show's producers all about throwing
00:22Hollywood's biggest party.
00:24A few months ago I asked you what you thought when you were first asked to host the show
00:27and you gave me a really great answer that went a little viral, that you thought they
00:30made a great decision.
00:31Yes, that's right, that was you!
00:34Yeah, like I watched that clip and I'm like, who do you, who is this girl?
00:38Whoa, Miss Confident, did I have a Celsius before that interview?
00:42Yeah, I think I stand by that.
00:45Now that you're going into the show this weekend, how have you maintained that confident mindset?
00:51I keep in mind that nothing matters.
00:53That really does help me.
00:54I have a special, it's called Someday You'll Die, and it's kind of about that, of just
00:58remember that it doesn't matter.
01:00And so that takes away either too much feeling too big for my britches, like I'm hosting
01:05the Golden Globes, and it also takes away the fear of it going horribly.
01:09So it allows me this freedom to just have fun and enjoy the moment, because it's all
01:13we have.
01:14Glaser revealed that she's preparing for the Golden Globes on Sunday by testing out her
01:18material on audiences around town.
01:20I have, I think, nine shows between now and Sunday, because I want to keep testing out
01:27jokes and I want to keep getting the monologue in the perfect place it can be.
01:32Not every host does that.
01:33I'm lucky enough to be a comedian that can go and find these rehearsal spaces in front
01:38of a live audience, and I trust my audience members to not leak jokes or tell anyone.
01:43And we have enough jokes that even if they do, I'll be like, okay.
01:45But it's been a really collaborative process.
01:48I go on stage and I just say, hey guys, do you mind if I run my set?
01:50And they're like, everyone's so excited, like they feel like they're part of this interesting
01:54kind of secretive process, because they are.
01:56And I just go, you know, if you laugh at a joke tonight, and then you hear that same
02:01joke on Sunday night when you watch the Globes, you can literally be like, I told her to do
02:05that joke, because you did.
02:06And so it's just felt like, it's so fun.
02:08And so I bet, and it's just, you can write a million jokes and you can be, and there
02:14can be a room of writers being like, this is so funny.
02:16And then you take it out on stage, and it dies.
02:18And you don't know why.
02:19So you really, I have to test them.
02:21And so that's what I'm doing this weekend.
02:22I love that.
02:23I think that's an amazing strategy.
02:25And I know you don't want to give too much away going into the show, but who's one person
02:28that can maybe expect you to roast them on Sunday?
02:31I think roasting, I don't know that I'm really roasting anyone, like really going after them.
02:39But I'm definitely, like I can't not talk to Timothee Chalamet, because he's just such
02:44a moment.
02:46I loved him in A Complete Unknown so much, like I just want to give him his flowers for
02:51that performance.
02:53I want to just be able to make, I don't know if I'll be able to talk to him at the afterparty.
02:56So being on stage might be my only chance to be like, dude, you were so good in that.
03:00So if that gets, if the only way for me to say that is to tell a joke, I will then tell
03:04a joke, because I have to let him know.
03:06That'll be fun.
03:07The executive producers of The Golden Globes also spoke to THR about Glazer's preparation
03:11process and why it's going to result in a great show.
03:14Look, I'll say this, having done many, many award shows and working with many hosts, Nikki
03:21is determined, and Nikki is really putting in the homework, and that is what is going
03:26to make this night really successful right from the get-go.
03:29She has tried out the material.
03:30She's doing four or five shows a night right now, testing to make sure that everything
03:35has responded properly.
03:37The Golden Globes are set to air live this Sunday on CBS at 5 p.m. Pacific, 8 p.m. Eastern,
03:43and they're also streaming on Paramount+.
03:45For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
