00:00Law enforcement officials positively identified a U.S. Army soldier from Colorado as the person
00:08inside a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas
00:14on Wednesday, leaving the driver dead and seven people with minor injuries.
00:20Authorities also believe Matthew Livalsberger, a 37-year-old active-duty Army soldier from
00:26Colorado Springs, acted alone.
00:29There was also no definitive link between the New Year's Day New Orleans truck attack
00:33that killed 15 people and the Cybertruck explosion.
00:36Now, I would like to acknowledge a couple of things because I know what's going on in
00:42the social media world and there are a number of things in this case that are similar to
00:46the attack in New Orleans.
00:49We do know that our subject here served in the military.
00:53In fact, he's a current member of the military.
00:56Both of the subjects served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
01:00What we do know about that is it's a very large military base and we have no record
01:04that they served in the same unit or even at the same years at Fort Bragg, something
01:09that continues to remain under investigation.
01:11Obviously, we're always concerned in these sorts of events to ascertain what the motive
01:17is.
01:18We understand that's everybody's at the forefront of everyone's thoughts.
01:21And so looking into exactly what the motivation is remains our number one priority.
01:26We have to focus on what we know and what we don't know.
01:27We know we have a bombing, absolutely, and it's a bombing that certainly has factors
01:31that raise concern.
01:32It's not lost on us that it's in front of the Trump building, that it's a Tesla vehicle,
01:39but we don't have information at this point that definitively tells us or suggests it
01:43was because of this particular ideology or any of the reasoning behind it.
01:47That's the purpose of the investigation that we're conducting, is to get to the bottom
01:50of exactly what happened, why, and how.
01:53Livalsberger was assigned to the Army Special Operations Command and was on approved leave
01:58at the time of his death.
02:00A U.S. official told Reuters that Livalsberger completed five combat deployments to Afghanistan.
02:07He had been awarded a Bronze Star for valor and an Army Commendation for valor, along
02:12with a Combat Infantryman badge.
