00:00Bersatu was forced to join the pro-Najib Razak coalition,

00:05which was formed by PAS,

00:07following a decline in support in the National Union,

00:10according to a political analyst.

00:12James Chin from the University of Tasmania said

00:15Bersatu needed to do everything

00:17to remain relevant in the eyes of the people

00:19amid the rise in PAS's influence.

00:22Although Bersatu's president, Muhyiddin Yassin,

00:25may not be happy with the participation of the party component

00:28in the coalition,

00:30Chin explained that Muhyiddin was in a weak position

00:33to oppose PAS's support for Najib,

00:36given that PAS's influence was far greater than Bersatu.

00:40The coalition will be held on the same day

00:43as Najib's request for an appeal

00:45to obtain the right to present new evidence

00:48and his appeal to be subjected to house arrest,

00:51as claimed by the former President of Agong,

00:56Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

00:58Last Saturday, Bersatu's Chairman,

01:00Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz,

01:02said the leaders and members of the party

01:04were free to participate in the meeting

01:06in front of the court

01:08in support of national peace.

01:11However, Chin, as well as Azmil Taib

01:13from the University of Science Malaysia,

01:15rejected the appeal for national peace

01:18and doubted Najib's efforts

01:20to unite the major parties of the Muslim Malay community.

01:24Azmil said the meeting was intended

01:26to escalate tensions in the coalition,

01:30where the issue of Najib's house arrest

01:32was used as an excuse for Muhyiddin

01:34to undermine the government.
