Malaysia's No. 2 mixed doubles pair Shevon Lai-Goh Soon Huat said the Badminton World Federation (BWF) might need to review its medical regulation introduced in November last year where players, among others, are barred from receiving medical attention during their games except for intervals.

They said this to the media after their training session at the Axiata Arena where the Malaysia Open will be held from Jan 7-12.

00:00Okay, I just want to ask one thing about the BWF rules. Now the service, you cannot delay the service, and also another rule is the medical attention only be given during the intervals. Maybe your thoughts on this rule?
00:13I think the service-wise, it's starting only this tournament. The previous one, not yet. So I'm not sure how that would come out, what's the outcome. But I think in terms of the medical-wise, personally I don't think it's a very good idea because I've seen so many players having injury on court and not receiving immediate medical.
00:39Probably maybe they feel like some of the players are using that advantage to delay the game. But I think for those players who are really injured, it's heartbreaking for them because they have given everything they have on court and being in that pain or in that situation is really very heartbreaking for a player. So I really hope that BWF will review this rule and let the players have some sort of medical help when they really need it on court.
01:06He had the attention because it was quite bad, he fell on his ribs. But I think for players who are having cramps or maybe a twist like previously Zijia's twist, I think if he could have some sort of medical help, I believe he could probably go on with his match and maybe finish the match.
01:27It was quite heartbreaking for us to see his match ended that way and we really strongly believe he could have finished the match and probably won it as well.
01:37I think it's more like a review for BWF because I believe they have their reasons to put this rule in as well. So it's something I think that BWF and probably the Players' Council can look into and maybe discuss on this because just saying no to every single request is probably a bit tough on the players.
02:08I think it's a good thing for Malaysia. We have a few pairs who are at a very high performance level. It's also a good motivation for us. It's motivating us to move forward, keep our momentum, our consistency in training so that we can keep up with them and work with them. It's a good challenge for us.
02:33Definitely all have a chance. Tan Tze Wei, us and also even Pang Ron. I think all stand a good chance depending on how we perform and how we bring our game on court. Yes, the Chinese, they are strong and I think there are still other few pairs that are good, that are coming up as well. They are giving us a very tough matches on court and fight.
02:56But this tournament, I think we'll try to do our best and I hope that one of the Malaysian pairs can take the title again after 60 years. I really hope that either one of us can break that spell and get the title home. But having said that, I just want everyone to go in the court safely and come out safely without any injuries or accidents in the court.
