Tom's Guide Managing Editor, Kate Kozuch explores buzzworthy new products at CES 2025
Transcript
00:00We are at the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, and although the show is only just getting
00:15started, I'm already seeing some really interesting trends emerge as we head into the next year.
00:20It's January.
00:21No surprise that fitness tech, health tech, that's what everyone's talking about.
00:25We're going to start right behind me, because believe it or not, that's not Bumblebee the
00:29Transformer.
00:30That is a massage chair.
00:31Wait until you see this.
00:33This is the Body Friend, and it's very aptly named, because it wants to be your body's
00:37best friend.
00:38It has a built-in scale with body composition.
00:40There are little sensors all in here, so it can analyze your weight.
00:43It can also analyze your mobility.
00:45It's not just a massage chair.
00:47This is actually going to take you through some stretching movements.
00:49Think about some older folks who might not have as strong of mobility, not sure how to
00:53go through a mobility practice by themselves.
00:56The Body Friend can help with that.
00:58It has a wireless ECG in the back behind me here.
01:01That way, it can detect for potential heart issues, such as an arrhythmia, and it'll do
01:06that while I'm still getting my body worked out, getting my stretching in, and of course,
01:10most importantly, getting my massage.
01:12Oh, yeah, that's the good stuff.
01:14We're going to move on over to the Wising Omnia Smart Mirror Scan Concept.
01:20We got a smart mirror right here with an integrated display, and it has the scale on the bottom
01:25right here.
01:26If I stand up here, it would be able to tell me my activity for the day.
01:30It would tell me how well I slept.
01:32It would be reading my weight, my body composition, following my heart irregularities, my blood
01:38pressure even, giving me an overall score about how my wellness is.
01:41A big benefit I could see to something like this is that if you live in a so-called medical
01:45desert where maybe you don't have access to seeing your medical providers all the time,
01:50you're not able to go to the doctor, but you do need very regular checkups, this thing
01:54would ideally sync your data to an app, and then you could share that information with
01:58a doctor, so you'd be able to do this at home even if you can't get out to a doctor's office.
02:02If you've followed Wising's for a while now, you know that they make smart watches.
02:06They make smart scales, tons of health tech.
02:09This isn't anything new.
02:10This is a culmination of tech that they've been working on for years now.
02:15We've seen a mirror that scans your body, a massage chair that moves your body.
02:20This is a spoon that changes the taste of things that go into your body.
02:25We all are trying to eat less salt.
02:27It's very important for our heart health long-term, but we love salty food, right?
02:31This is the electric salt spoon, and how it works is it creates a very mild electric current
02:37that goes through from the back here to the front, through your mouth here, and it'll
02:41actually make your food taste saltier.
02:43There are four different levels that you can choose from depending on your saltiness needs.
02:49The point of this is that you are able to change the way that you're eating, make some
02:53small changes day by day without having to make the same compromises that you would for
02:58how you like the way things taste.
03:00Whoa.
03:01I did not expect something called the electric salt spoon to really impress me, but it has.
03:05This is quintessential weird CES, and I'm here for it.
03:10This is definitely the right time of year for all things health tech, but that's not
03:13the only type of tech that we're going to be seeing here at CES 2025, so make sure you
03:18keep it locked to Cheddar and Tom's Guide for all the latest and greatest updates from
03:23the show.
