Campaigners at public meeting in Deal voice concerns over water quality issues
Transcript
00:00But what we want to do is get public support for a campaign to sort out where this pollution
00:07is coming from.
00:08What is the cause of this pollution, because the pollution that we've got is having a bad
00:14impact on our tourism business and there are a lot of people here who like to swim all
00:20year round, want to enjoy the coast, and they don't feel that they can do it.
00:26We want all of the persons with power on this issue to work together.
00:30That includes Southern Water, we want much more action from them, and the Environment
00:34Agency, and over District Council, and Kent County Council, and indeed the Minister up
00:40in London, Steve Reid, Minister for DEFRA, to be working together to stop sewage outfills
00:47and sewage pollution in our coastal waters.
00:50We were really, really impressed by how many people turned out.
00:54We're still only two days after the new year and we had 130 people here tonight with really
01:00sensible questions, really committed, all of them keen to work together.
01:04We have a petition up and running now, launching today, which is Clean, Deal, Warmer Coastal
01:10Waters.
01:11Please sign our petition.
01:13I'm concerned about the quality of our seawater and the effect it's going to have on our town,
01:20our community, our businesses, and the health of residents in the area.
01:24I would like to see next increased monitoring of the seawater quality in more places so
01:32that we can get a proper picture of exactly what's happening, and more frequently.
