00:00In order to have a layer of protection, the government's system against cyberattacks

00:06has updated the system, the DICT.

00:10While the laws are also being pushed to upgrade the country's cyber security.

00:16Kenneth Paciente of PTV has news for the country.

00:22A million hacking attempts every day.

00:25That's how many cyberattacks in the government systems of the Philippines.

00:29But according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology,

00:33the government's efforts have stopped the hacking.

00:37This is the reason why there is no evidence of successful hacking.

00:41When we say there's no successful hacking,

00:44that we have no evidence that there was no successful hacking that occurred.

00:49What we have is prevailing and persistent attempts to hack our government systems,

00:56our private systems on a daily basis.

00:59We encounter anywhere between hundreds of thousands to a million attempts per day.

01:05But luckily, because of the efforts of the government,

01:09no vital information, at least we have no evidence that no vital information

01:14and no systems was hacked recently.

01:17The DICT also clarified that they did not say that the hacking was state-sponsored

01:21on government websites.

01:22They said it was only a Chinese group behind the cyberattack.

01:25On behalf of Secretary Ivan Noye, we'd like to clarify that statement.

01:28We never mentioned that it was state-sponsored.

01:30However, because of the methodology that was used,

01:34it is a well-documented methodology, a procedure,

01:39and it can be traced back to particular Chinese groups,

01:43particularly the group of 41 and APT21.

01:56As mentioned by Secretary Ivan Noye,

01:58we have started the procurement of new systems that would act as a firewall

02:03and as a deterrent for threat actors to,

02:06it would serve as a first layer for threat actors to prevent them from penetrating our systems.

02:16Last year, we had the President approve an executive order

02:21for the National Cybersecurity Plan for 2023 to 2024.

02:25We're working with our legislature to improve,

02:29particularly the enactment of the Cybersecurity Act,

02:33improve various laws when it comes to updating the systems of government

02:39and how it's being procured in consonance with global standards.

02:45Again, the DICT reminded the public to be careful online.
