00:00First of all, what's your name?
00:01I'm Karma Chewing, Secretary, Department of Information and International Relations, CTA.
00:06There has been an earthquake in Tibet and China.
00:10What will you say?
00:13The information that we got this morning, an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude on Richter
00:20scale took place in Tibet, in South Tibet, a place called Tengri.
00:27So it is reported that some more than 50-something people died due to the earthquake and some
00:3450-something, I think, are injured.
00:38But the numbers are still not confirmed yet.
00:41There are reports where they say as many as 95-something people are said to be dead.
00:48So I think the earthquake is of a very high magnitude.
00:53Sir, what kind of situation is there right now?
00:56We do not have any information.
01:00It happened just this morning.
01:02And we are getting reports from various sources, like from media, Tibetan media sources and
01:08other sources, but the number of people dead and injured are varying between 50-something
01:14to 90-plus.
01:17So basically the Tibetan region, because Tengri is to the south of Tibet, close to the Himalayas,
01:24so the Himalayan region is a very sensitive, earthquake-prone area.
01:29So these kinds of things happen.
01:31So it's really unfortunate and our prayer goes to our Tibetan brothers and sisters who
01:37passed away and who suffered injury due to the earthquake and their family members.
