01:00I recall our brief interaction during the state
01:29visit of the President, Dr. Mohamed Moizou, to India in April 2024.
01:37The visit of the President of the Maldives has provided a new orientation to our bilateral
01:43relationship, and the joint vision document released during the visit acts as a guiding
01:49principle for our two countries.
01:52As you are aware, our two countries share spiritual, historical, linguistic, and ethnic
01:59ties with each other.
02:01The relations have always been close, cordial, and multi-dimensional.
02:08Maldives occupies a special place under the Neighborhood First Policy of India, which
02:15aims to bring stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
02:20Also, both the nations are key players in maintaining safety and security of the Indian
02:27Ocean region, thus contributing to security and growth for all in the Sagar region.
02:36Excellency, defense and security have historically constituted the cornerstone of our multifaceted
02:44bilateral relations.
02:47It has enabled us to deal effectively with the shared security challenges that we as
02:55neighboring countries face.
02:57India has been offering avenues of capacity building to Maldives in all the fields of
03:03defense cooperation, including training, regular exercises, workshops, and seminars to enhance
03:10capability of the Maldives National Defense Forces, as well as supply of the defense
03:17equipment and stores.
03:20It would be important to show that we continue the same momentum.
03:26India will continue to support Maldives and the Maldives National Defense Forces in their
03:32capacity building efforts through projects, equipment, and training.
03:39As a trusted partner and a close friend, I assure you that India will continue to support
03:45Maldives on its development needs and welfare of its people.
03:50We hope that under your charge, our defense and security partnership will grow further
03:57and contribute towards deeper ties between our two countries.
04:03Excellency, I also fondly recollect my visit to Maldives in May 2023, during which we handed
04:11over CGS Huravi and a landing craft SR ship to Maldives.
04:18Excellency, I now invite you for your opening remarks.
04:22Thank you very much.
04:32Honorable Minister of Defense Shri Ratna Singh, Chief of the Defence Staff and Chiefs,
04:39Salaam Alaikum and a very good afternoon.
04:42Excellencies, it is both an honor and a privilege for me to be here today.
