00:00A fake home? A scarce Harry? Viewers gave some stinging responses to the trailer for
00:05Meghan Markle's new Netflix show, and there are a few weird things you might have missed.
00:10After leaving the royal family with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has occasionally thrown out glimpses
00:15into their life. There was, for example, the Oprah interview, the other Netflix series,
00:20and a much-maligned Christmas card. Now, the trailer for her upcoming series,
00:24With Love, Meghan, has royal watchers talking again, and the chatter isn't all good.
00:29The trailer features the Duchess of Sussex cooking recipes with friends and celebrity guests,
00:33gardening, and showing off her hobbies.
00:37"...look at how much honey we have."
00:38By all accounts, the show aims to offer a cozy, authentic look into her life.
00:42And that's where the oddities start piling up. For starters, the show wasn't filmed in her
00:47actual home. While Meghan, Harry, and their children do reside in a Montecito mansion,
00:52according to the Daily Mail, the property where filming occurred was actually an $8 million
00:57farmhouse located in the same town as the Sussexes' home. An insider told the New York Post
01:02that Markle chose the location because she felt it would provide a more average, rustic-look vibe.
01:07Granted, it makes sense that the former Suits star wouldn't want to share what her home looks
01:11like with the public, since the couple has made several petitions for privacy over the years.
01:15But some people thought that using a rented home threw off the whole vibe.
01:19As the source told the New York Post,
01:21"...if this was filmed at her own mansion, at least it would have come off more authentic."
01:25Another surprising detail in the trailer has more to do with what isn't there than what is,
01:30Prince Harry. Since the show is supposed to be an intimate look at Markle's life,
01:34it's a bit odd that her husband wouldn't be a prominent figure in the series.
01:38Maybe he spent production at their real home? There's only one very brief shot depicting the
01:43Duke and Duchess of Sussex holding one another with mimosas in hand. The shot lasts for about
01:48one second. However, it's possible that Harry will be more present in the show than he was
01:52in the trailer. Mindy Kaling, who guest-stars, did confirm to Deadline that she spotted him on set.
01:58"...Harry was there, but he didn't cook for me,
02:01but I heard he's actually a pretty good cook. He knows his way around a kitchen."
02:04Another peculiar aspect of the trailer for With Love, Meghan,
02:08is when Markle tries her hand at beekeeping. Royal heads know that Kate Middleton also tends
02:12bees at one of her lavish properties, Anmer Hall. For World Bee Day in 2023,
02:17the official Instagram page for her office shared a photo of Kate extracting combs from a hive.
02:23While the clip in itself isn't very strange, people have said that it seems a bit
02:26staged that Kate and Meghan have taken up the same hobby. Self-professed beekeepers
02:31even chimed in on Reddit to point out that Meghan is holding the equipment incorrectly,
02:35and nobody in their right mind would wear that much jewelry to collect honey.
02:38In light of the trailer's release, Meghan also returned to Instagram after a years-long hiatus.
02:44On January 2nd, the Duchess of Sussex proudly shared the trailer for the show,
02:48along with an enthusiastic caption that partially read,
02:51"...I have been so excited to share this with you. I hope you love the show as much
02:54as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic New Year."
02:58Comments on Markle's account are disabled, so it's impossible to say what her Instagram
03:02followers think of the upcoming show, but other sources are clear — the
03:06trailer might suggest that the series will be a ton of fun, but folks aren't buying it.
