00:30Today we are going to talk about a musical instrument called Tabla.
00:41Tabla has not only made its name in classical music, but it has also made its mark in the country as well as abroad.
00:50Tabla was invented by the great tabla player Zakir Hussain.
00:58Tabla originates from Delhi Gharana.
01:03After Delhi Gharana, Tabla came to Lucknow Gharana.
01:08Tabla's origin in Lucknow Gharana made a different mark.
01:14In the era of the Nawabs, the capital of the Nawabs was in Faisabad, Uttar Pradesh.
01:19When the capital of the Nawabs came from Faisabad to Lucknow,
01:23Nawabs from Nawab Wajid Ali Shah to all the Nawabins gave Tabla to the musicians.
01:29And Lucknow Tabla Gharana has achieved an important identity.
01:33Let's talk to that Gharana and find out what has been the history of Tabla Gharana
01:40and how is Lucknow Tabla Gharana making its name and how are we looking at it in the future.
01:48Gharana is made from the house.
01:53And Gharana is made when the people of the house do it.
01:57And the people of the house do it for at least three generations.
02:01After that Gharana is accepted.
02:04And I am thankful to Allah that it is the 9th generation.
02:07It is the 10th generation.
02:09And as far as Lucknow Gharana is concerned,
02:13Lucknow Gharana was made in 1775.
02:20And its founder was Ustad Bakhshu Khan Sahib.
02:25He was in Faisabad in the era of Nawab Shujaud Daulah.
02:32And when Nawab Shujaud Daulah built his capital Lucknow in 1775,
02:38all the musicians and fine arts artists of that time came to Lucknow.
02:48And Bakhshu Ji also came with them.
02:51Bakhshu Ji started Lucknow Gharana in 1775.
02:56There are a lot of theories about Tabla.
03:00First of all, there is Nikas.
03:03What is Nikas?
03:06How do you make the sounds?
03:09I will tell you one of my questions.
03:14The baaj of Lucknow Gharana is known as Sur Ka Baaj.
03:20It is also called Purab Ka Baaj.
03:23Sur is more prominent in it.
03:26As I told you, this is Sur.
03:30It is also called Law.
03:33So this is prominent in our Gharana.
03:36In the beginning, we are taught small words.
03:44Then we are taught the Qaida.
03:47After the Qaida, we are taught the Qaida Rela.
03:50Then we practice it to strengthen our hands.
03:54There are different types of bols.
03:56There are different types of Qaida.
03:59We have to play them and practice them.
04:02All these small things are very important.
04:05When the hand is ready, then comes the Tukde, Paran, Gat, Chakardar.
04:12The most important thing with singing is Sangat.
04:16At that time, we don't play solo.
04:19At that time, we do Sangat.
04:21For Tabla, it is very important to play Sangat.
04:26In Solo, we can play anything we want.
04:29But in Sangat, we have to see what the other person's demand is.
04:34How much they expect us to help them in their program.
04:40Or what is our duty for them.
04:42If we feel that we are playing Solo instead of Sangat,
04:46then we have to pay attention to that.
04:48And Sangat is very important.
04:50Lucknow Gharana is such a Gharana,
04:53that people are not able to play Tabla without playing it.
04:58There are six Gharanas in Lucknow.
05:03Delhi Gharana, Lucknow Gharana, Ajranagar Gharana,
05:07Parokhabad Gharana, Banaras Gharana, Punjab Gharana.
05:10But all these people are definitely playing Lucknow Gharana.
05:14And let me tell you one thing.
05:17It is a compulsion.
05:19The first Gharana was Delhi Gharana.
05:28In Delhi Gharana, the Baaj was of two fingers.
05:33It was a beautiful Baaj.
05:39It was a ready made Baaj.
05:41But the hands did not have much freedom.
05:44For example, I can play it for you.
05:47But when the Lucknow Gharana was made,
05:51ten fingers of the hand were used.
05:55This was not the case in Delhi Gharana.
05:58Because of that, we felt our hands were more free.
06:02Now all the people of Lucknow Gharana are using ten fingers.
06:06We are basically from Lucknow Gharana.
06:11Right now, we are in our 14th generation.
06:16In Delhi, Sudar Khan Sahib, his grandsons,
06:20Makku Khan Sahib, Bakshu Khan Sahib, Maudhu Khan Sahib.
06:23So, two brothers came from Delhi Gharana to Lucknow Gharana.
06:27At that time, Faizabad used to be the capital of Lucknow Gharana.
06:31So, we are coming from the generation of Bakshu Khan Sahib.
06:35At present, we are here.
06:38My Ustad brother, Ustad Ilmaad Hussain Khan is here.
06:41His sons are here.
06:43My daughter is also playing the Baaj.
06:45So, this is how we are moving forward with Gharana.
06:48It was an inspiration for all of us.
06:51When we opened our eyes since childhood,
06:53we saw them at such a high level.
06:55Actually, what Zakir Bhai did was that
06:58when it comes to Gharana,
07:00you have trained your students well.
07:05But the life after that,
07:08it depends on your personality, your intelligence,
07:12it depends on you.
07:14Ustad and Gharana are not the same.
07:17The way you will increase it,
07:19the Gharana will increase accordingly.
07:21Now, Zakir Bhai was from Punjab Gharana.
07:24But Allah gave him a versatile mind,
07:28gave him intelligence,
07:30and the maintenance he did,
07:32for such a long time,
07:34at such a high level,
07:36it is his own intelligence.
07:38It is something above Gharana.
07:40He used to play in all Gharanas.
07:42So, to be such an artist,
07:44is from Allah.
07:46He is still a source of inspiration for us.
07:49He will always be for everyone in the coming generation.
07:52My name is Aamir Hussain Khan.
07:54Aamir Sahib, how do you want to see the future generation?
07:59Lucknow Gharana is my Gharana.
08:02I want to take it forward at any cost.
08:05What is your response?
08:07Now, the response depends on the audience,
08:10how much they like it,
08:12how much they don't like it.
08:14But we have to give our 100%.
