Neil Fatkin reports as Northumbria Police execute search warrants and make arrests in Sunderland as part of Operation Impact.
Transcript
00:00As part of Operation IMPACT, I'm out in the city with Northumbria police officers who have
00:04search warrants to search addresses here in Sunderland to tackle crime here in the city.
00:08Okay and Mark, we're out on Operation IMPACT,
00:10can you just tell me what's been happening so far this morning then please?
00:13So this morning there was a number of warrants executed simultaneously,
00:17as well as that we had further proactivity in terms of mate going out and arrested
00:22wanted individuals and so far there's been one person arrested for possession of drugs
00:27and intent to supply and two individuals arrested for conspiracy to steal motor vehicles.
00:32In terms of the intelligence for these warrants, where does that come from?
00:35All of this is based on the feedback that we get from our partners and our communities.
00:39That's vitally important to stress that we simply couldn't do what we do in Northumbria
00:43and in Sunderland without that public support. This is firmly based on the public's feedback
00:48where we're taking action and activity. When you execute these warrants,
00:51what's the process you go through? So in order to obtain a warrant,
00:54there's a process where we have to apply to the courts for that approval
00:59and then once we have that warrant, we're able to utilise specialist officers
01:04and also our partners to go and execute that and carry out searches.
01:07A lot of police officers out and about in the city today,
01:09just how important is it that you have this visual presence?
01:12It's vitally important to offer that reassurance to the public and also explain why we're here
01:17to stress that we're here reporting and taking action on their concerns.
