00:00Woo!
00:02Huh?
00:04Not bad, huh?
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo
00:08and today we're counting down our picks
00:10for the most embarrassing box office
00:12duds that killed any hope of
00:14continuing their franchise.
00:16It just doesn't seem right.
00:18Number 30. Speed Racer.
00:20Based on a beloved anime
00:22and helmed by the lauded directors
00:24of The Matrix, you'd think this
00:26wannabe franchise would go all the way
00:28past the finish line.
00:30I don't know if I can watch this.
00:32It's too bad, then, that it stalled out
00:34on its very first leg. While
00:36Speed Racer's eclectic visuals have
00:38earned it a rabid cult following over the
00:40years, that same quirky tone made it
00:42a tough sell for casual moviegoers.
00:44This movie couldn't even recoup
00:46its own budget at the box office,
00:48let alone deliver any profits.
00:50You poor naive chump.
00:52Ha ha ha ha!
00:54Despite ideas for a follow-up
00:56already revving up, the returns
00:58were so bad, it's unlikely we'll ever
01:00see this version of Speed on the big screen
01:02again. Number 29.
01:04Solo. A Star Wars Story.
01:06When Disney sought to make a film series
01:08about everyone's favorite space
01:10cowboy, they made Alden Ehrenreich
01:12sign on the dotted line for a whole
01:14trilogy.
01:26I don't have people. I'm alone.
01:30Um...
01:34Solo. But therein also lies
01:36the problem. No one wanted a Han
01:38Solo movie without Harrison Ford,
01:40and audiences said as much with their wallets.
01:42The depressing box office ensured
01:44Solo would be Han's one and only
01:46big screen adventure. The impact
01:48went way beyond this one film, though.
01:50No, Solo's underperformance
01:52had repercussions all across
01:54the galaxy far, far away,
01:56with many reporting that it scared the
01:58Mouse House away from producing any more
02:00theatrical Star Wars spinoffs.
02:02I don't like it.
02:04I don't agree with it.
02:06But I accept it.
02:08So, if you're ever wondering where those big budget tentpoles
02:10went, blame Solo.
02:12Number 28. Mortal Engines.
02:14A buzzy young adult series,
02:16a steampunk aesthetic, and a
02:18cushy December release date, seem like
02:20a foolproof formula for a new
02:22industry juggernaut.
02:24Very, very nice. I've dug up a few
02:26of these in my time, but none as
02:28good as this. Unfortunately, both fans
02:30and reviewers disagreed.
02:32Lambasted by toxic word of mouth,
02:34Mortal Engines failed to garner
02:36much traction during the busy holiday
02:38frame, and it has the poor profits
02:40to prove it. Or it would, if it had
02:42any profits at all. The movie is often
02:44cited as one of the biggest box office
02:46bombs of all time, losing its
02:48studio around $175 million.
02:50You've failed.
02:52Given the wallet-burning results,
02:54you can imagine why distributor
02:56Universal Pictures wasn't very eager
02:58to adapt the remaining three books.
03:00Number 27. Sahara.
03:02Even if this disaster flick had been
03:04a smashing success, which for the
03:06record, it most definitely was not,
03:08prospects for a sequel still would have
03:10been as barren as an actual desert.
03:12Ava.
03:16Ava!
03:18We'll get through, huh?
03:20Sahara's fate as a franchise
03:22was actually decided in a courtroom
03:24where the original book's author
03:26tried suing the film's producer.
03:28There's a laundry list of reasons why,
03:30but most of them boil down to the movie's
03:32extremely bumpy path to theaters.
03:34It wasn't even worth it either.
03:36The adaptation got a total yawn
03:38from audiences.
03:40Is that all?
03:42Is that all?
03:48So considering there's no money in the
03:50brand and a decade-spanning lawsuit
03:52to smooth over, it's no wonder everyone
03:54abandoned Sahara 2.
03:56Number 26. Showgirls.
03:58There's an old saying in Hollywood.
04:00Sex sells. Sadly, Showgirls
04:02is the exception. While there were tons
04:04of headlines about the film's explicit
04:06content, it didn't translate to ticket sales.
04:08I'm sorry!
04:12I'm sorry!
04:14Jesus, Nomi!
04:16You can probably blame the
04:18bad reviews for that one.
04:20Modern critics have come back around to give
04:22Showgirls its due, but they came too
04:24late to rescue the in-development
04:26sequel. Well, technically, we did
04:28get Showgirls 2. However, it didn't
04:30star Elizabeth Berkley and was
04:32released primarily through film festivals,
04:34DVD, and video on demand.
04:36If Showgirls had hit theaters
04:38today, we may have actually gotten the proper
04:40sequel it always deserved.
04:42Then what are you doing here?
04:44I'm watching you be a prick.
04:46Well, you ain't seen nothing yet.
04:48Number 25.
04:50I Am Number 4.
04:52Despite its name, I Am Number 4 couldn't
04:54even make it past movie number one.
04:56Keep in mind, this was also at a time when
04:58every studio in town was looking for the next
05:00young adult craze.
05:02You alright?
05:04Yeah.
05:06Anyone else see what happened?
05:08Many critics thought they'd struck gold with this book series.
05:10So much so, they fast-tracked
05:12development on a sequel before I Am Number 4
05:14even hit theaters.
05:16But when the mediocre film delivered even more
05:18mediocre results, the franchise hopeful
05:20quietly turned into a disappointing
05:22one-off instead.
05:24I'm sorry.
05:26I'm not. I mean, it was.
05:28But, um,
05:30I don't know. I kind of look
05:32at it like a total gift.
05:34All in all, there's seven long books in the series.
05:36However, to this day, there's still
05:38only one movie. That alone should tell you
05:40everything you need to know.
05:42Number 24. Lemony Snicket's A Series
05:44of Unfortunate Events.
05:46For the record, casting Jim Carrey as the
05:48maniacally inept Count Olaf
05:50was a stroke of genius.
05:52I will raise these orphans
05:54as if they were actually
05:56wanted.
05:58It's tragic, then, that it didn't end up moving the needle
06:00all that much. Despite the popular source
06:02material, A Series of Unfortunate Events
06:04suffered from soft audience turnout.
06:06Distributor Paramount Pictures wanted
06:08to adapt the other ten books into
06:10feature films, but the lower-than-expected
06:12profits slowed down development,
06:14and by the time everyone was on board,
06:16the child actors were too old to reprise their roles
06:18anyway.
06:24This turned out to be a series of
06:26unfortunate events, indeed.
06:28Just not in the way that helped anyone's pocketbook.
06:30Number 23. The Dark Tower.
06:32Stephen King may be a household
06:34name on bookshelves, but his forays
06:36to the big screen have had some very
06:38mixed results. Looking at you,
06:40The Dark Tower.
06:48It's even more embarrassing
06:50when you realize it took ten years of development
06:52for this movie to finally see the light of day.
06:54When it did, audiences outright
06:56rejected the final project, disappointed
06:58in the way it crammed King's epic story
07:00into a two-hour snore-fest.
07:02Reviews were bad, profits were worse,
07:04and any thoughts of adapting the rest
07:06of the series were simply non-existent.
07:12No one was touching
07:14this stinker with a ten-foot pole.
07:16And honestly, that's for the best.
07:18Number 22. Independence Day
07:20Resurgence. Whoever thought
07:22it was a good idea to revive this franchise
07:24without Will Smith needs a major
07:26wake-up call.
07:30His star power almost single-handedly
07:32catapulted the original to popcorn
07:34entertainment staple. So when
07:36Independence Day came back 20 years later
07:38without him, all it got was some major
07:40diminishing returns. 20th Century
07:42Fox hoped the franchise name alone would
07:44drive interest for a third film, but
07:46considering Resurgence finished its run
07:48as a serious financial disappointment,
07:50it's clear they shouldn't have even made it in the
07:52first place.
07:54The peace is once it's over.
07:56This is my part.
07:58So don't expect to see these
08:00aliens return for a third time.
08:02At least, not without Will Smith.
08:04Number 21. The Mummy.
08:06It takes a special kind of box office poison
08:08to ruin a film, a franchise, and
08:10a whole universe in one fell swoop.
08:122017's The Mummy was just that
08:14bad. I don't know what you're talking about.
08:16Headlined by Tom Cruise,
08:18the film underwent rigorous production
08:20delays in order to kickstart a whole
08:22cinematic universe of monster flicks.
08:24Dracula, The Invisible Man,
08:26Frankenstein's Monster, it was all
08:28riding on the groundwork laid by The Mummy.
08:30But then came the box office tallies.
08:32Let's just say the numbers were so crummy,
08:34this mummy was promptly put back in its
08:36tomb alongside any hope
08:38for future crossovers. Maybe
08:40this time they'll let it rest for good.
08:42And that is a mistake
08:44we cannot
08:46afford to repeat.
08:48Number 20. The Lone Ranger.
08:50Hold on!
08:52Tonto?
08:54Disney's The Lone Ranger is a
08:56modern adaptation of the classic radio
08:58series and 50's television
09:00show. However, it seems as if
09:02the Ranger and Tonto aren't
09:04quite the superstars they were 60
09:06years ago. The film was lambasted
09:08for its bloated length and over
09:10reliance on action, while also being
09:12accused of whitewashing by casting
09:14Johnny Depp as a Native American.
09:16What's your crime, boy?
09:18Indian.
09:20The film cost roughly $400
09:22million to produce and market,
09:24but it ended up only making
09:26$260 million at the worldwide
09:28box office. Stars Armie
09:30Hammer and Ruth Wilson were signed
09:32to do at least three movies, but
09:34these plans fell off a horse upon The
09:36Lone Ranger's abysmal performance.
09:38Something very wrong with that horse.
09:40Number 19. Conan
09:42the Barbarian. No man shall live in chains.
09:44Did you know that
09:46they made another Conan movie in
09:482011? Neither did most people.
09:50Despite the movie featuring a few
09:52respectable actors, including Jason
09:54Momoa and Ron Perlman, it was severely
09:56criticized for basically every
09:58aspect of its filmmaking, and for
10:00relying too heavily on its 3D
10:02effects. The film ended up grossing a
10:04meager $48 million on a $90
10:06million budget. There were plans
10:08to follow up the remake's story, but it
10:10was soon announced that they would be making a sequel
10:12to the original 1982 film
10:14instead. However, these plans eventually
10:16fell through too, meaning the
10:182011 movie likely ended
10:20Conan's appearances on the silver screen.
10:22I live,
10:24I love,
10:26I slay, and I am content.
10:28Number 18.
10:30Eragon. I'm sorry,
10:32that's all there is.
10:34It's probably best that there were no more
10:36films, because we don't know if we could sit
10:38through another one. Eragon was considered
10:40one of the worst movies of 2006
10:42due to its atrocious writing and
10:44derivative storyline.
10:46What did you just do?
10:48I started a fire.
10:50Despite the movie's roasting
10:52by critics, it admittedly
10:54didn't do terribly at the box office,
10:56as it grossed a rather respectable $250
10:58million on a $100
11:00million budget. However, this was
11:02deemed a disappointment, and the sequels,
11:04which were set to film back-to-back,
11:06Lord of the Rings-style, were cancelled.
11:08Fans of Christopher Paolini's
11:10Inheritance cycle will just have to wait
11:12for a more respectable film adaptation,
11:14because Eragon wasn't it.
11:16Are you ready to try again,
11:18Dragonrider?
11:20Number 17.
11:22King Arthur, Legend of the Sword.
11:24But there is no way
11:26that I am
11:28fighting. If there's one movie audiences
11:30were not asking for, it was
11:32yet another King Arthur movie,
11:34this time directed by Guy Ritchie and starring
11:36Charlie Hunnam. Don't get us wrong,
11:38we love those guys, but we don't
11:40think a fantastical King Arthur film was
11:42a good fit for their talents, and
11:44neither did audiences.
11:46Why have enemies when you can have friends?
11:48The movie grossed only $148 million
11:50on a Marvel-esque $175
11:52million budget, effectively
11:54making it one of the biggest bombs of
11:56the year. Legend of the Sword was meant
11:58to serve as the first entry in a six
12:00yes, six film series,
12:02but after losing Warner Bros.
12:04$150 million, its sequels
12:06were swiftly and understandably
12:08given the axe, or sword in this
12:10case. I feel a joke coming on here.
12:12Number 16. Planet
12:14of the Apes. You damn dirty
12:16human!
12:18Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes had
12:20one thing going for it, Rick Baker's
12:22incredible makeup effects. Aside
12:24from that, the movie was a total wash,
12:26as it was a confusing mess with a twist
12:28ending that tarnished the iconic nature
12:30of the original. Can't we all
12:32just get along? While the
12:34movie was a financial success, Fox
12:36decided to scrap its plans for a sequel,
12:38and Tim Burton stated that he'd
12:40quote, rather jump out a window than
12:42do another Apes movie. However, this
12:44was no great loss. Fox decided
12:46to reboot the series instead, resulting
12:48in 2011's Rise of the Planet
12:50of the Apes, and arguably one of the
12:52greatest movie trilogies of all time.
12:54Take your stinking paw off me,
12:56you damn dirty ape! Number 15.
12:58Jumper. Just jump all over
13:00the place, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump,
13:02and nothing's gonna happen? Jumper
13:04was another relatively successful movie
13:06whose sequels were cancelled. Jumper
13:08starred many notable actors including
13:10Hayden Christensen, Michael Rooker,
13:12and Samuel L. Jackson, but it
13:14received horrible reviews due to its
13:16lack of coherence and awful special
13:18effects. However, the movie did gross over
13:20$200 million on an $85
13:22million budget, but while producer
13:24Lucas Foster hoped to turn the movie
13:26into a trilogy, these plans have yet
13:28to come to fruition. A spinoff
13:30titled Impulse premiered on YouTube Red
13:32in June 2018. So,
13:34you know, that's something?
13:36No one is going to
13:38believe you. Number 14.
13:40Godzilla. We're in his
13:42power! We're in his power!
13:44Godzilla is one of the greatest monsters to
13:46ever grace movie screens. It deserved
13:48better than this abomination.
13:50Godzilla was set to be the movie of the summer
13:52as it was made for a massive $130
13:54million, and while it
13:56made a very respectable $379
13:58million at the box office,
14:00it was viciously attacked by critics for
14:02being nothing more than a dumb disaster
14:04flick. What do we do?
14:06Running would be a good idea.
14:08There were plans to
14:10produce a trilogy based around Godzilla
14:12and similar monsters, but plans
14:14fell through when they failed to generate interest
14:16among moviegoers and theater owners.
14:18The sequels were scrapped, and Godzilla
14:20was rebooted over 15 years later.
14:22Let them fight.
14:24Number 13.
14:26Ghostbusters. Let's light them up.
14:28The all-female reboot
14:30of Ghostbusters was immediately met
14:32with an unfair amount of disdain.
14:34Its trailer was heavily downvoted
14:36on YouTube, and many people personally
14:38attacked the filmmakers and cast over
14:40social media. Regardless of the reasons
14:42for the vitriol, the movie ended up
14:44grossing $229 million
14:46on a $144 million
14:48budget. Because of the film's huge
14:50marketing budget, the studio needed
14:52$300 million just to break even.
14:54Booyah. Emphasis on the boo.
14:56Oh, I would love to see that. I really would.
14:58Sony head Rory Brewer hoped
15:00that the movie would spawn a franchise,
15:02and it was reported that the cast had signed on
15:04for two more movies. However, director
15:06Paul Feig later confirmed that they
15:08were canceling the sequels due to the film's
15:10mediocre reception.
15:12This is not good.
15:16Number 12. The Divergent
15:18series, Allegiant.
15:20What if there's nothing else out there?
15:22Young adult movies are big business.
15:24Ever since Harry Potter dominated the world
15:26throughout the 2000s, producers the world
15:28over have been trying to replicate its success.
15:30The Divergent series did not
15:32do that, despite a respectable lead
15:34performance from Shailene Woodley. Allegiant
15:36was the third movie in the series, but it
15:38only grossed a disappointing $179
15:40million at the worldwide
15:42box office. You saved a city.
15:46Help me save the world.
15:48Due to the film's underperformance, plans
15:50for the second part of the movie fell through,
15:52and it was announced that the story would continue
15:54as a television film and or TV
15:56series without Shailene Woodley.
15:58Talk about two serious blows.
16:00We're leaving. Right now.
16:02What? I can't.
16:04Number 11. Battlefield Earth.
16:06While you were still learning how to spell
16:08your name, I
16:10was being trained to
16:12conquer galaxies. Battlefield
16:14Earth is infamous for being one of the
16:16worst movies of all time, filled
16:18with bad acting and curiously
16:20angled shots. The movie also has
16:22its roots in Scientology.
16:24Scientology's founder, L. Ron Hubbard,
16:26wrote the novel on which the movie
16:28is based, and famous Scientologist
16:30John Travolta hoped that the novel
16:32would be adapted in two parts.
16:34Those hopes were soon dashed post-release.
16:36Your powers of observation
16:38are simply startling.
16:40The movie dramatically fell off the box
16:42office charts after its opening
16:44weekend, eventually grossing just shy
16:46of $30 million on a $73
16:48million budget. The commercial
16:50failure, coupled with the eventual bankruptcy
16:52of production company, Franchise Pictures,
16:54meant that we never got to see the
16:56conclusion of Hubbard's story on screen.
16:58You've wasted my time,
17:00haven't I?
17:02Number 10. The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
17:04I'm following you now.
17:06I'm just gonna follow you everywhere.
17:08There wasn't exactly a strong demand for a
17:10reboot of the Spider-Man franchise
17:12only five years after Spider-Man 3.
17:14And unfortunately, the mediocre
17:16quality of these films didn't do much to win
17:18over audiences. The Amazing Spider-Man
17:202 received a mixed reception
17:22and eventually grossed a disappointing
17:24relative to the property,
17:26$709 million.
17:28I don't want your money. Come on, everybody
17:30wants my money! While this iteration
17:32of the Spider-Man series was meant to spawn
17:34an entire universe, including more
17:36Spider-Man films and sinister
17:38six Venom and Black Cat movies,
17:40these plans were indefinitely
17:42delayed after the performance of The Amazing
17:44Spider-Man 2. Sony then reached
17:46a deal with Marvel to bring Spider-Man
17:48to the MCU, effectively canceling
17:50the Amazing Spider-Man franchise
17:52in the process. Number 9.
17:54Batman and Robin. Chicks dig the car.
17:56This is why Superman
17:58works alone. Like Battlefield
18:00Earth, Batman and Robin is known
18:02for being one of the worst movies of all time.
18:04And like Battlefield Earth,
18:06there were high hopes that it would pave the way
18:08for future installments. Let's
18:10take some ice.
18:12Warner Bros. had commissioned a sequel
18:14based solely on the dailies of Batman
18:16and Robin. It was to be called Batman
18:18Unchained and planned to feature
18:20Scarecrow as the main antagonist,
18:22with George Clooney reprising his role as the
18:24Caped Crusader. However, Clooney decided
18:26that he was done with the cowl after the
18:28harsh reception of Batman and Robin,
18:30and the sequel was cancelled.
18:32Warner Bros. then hired Christopher Nolan
18:34to completely reboot the franchise,
18:36resulting in Batman Begins.
18:38Where are you?
18:40Here.
18:42Number 8. Fantastic Four.
18:44You guys sure you're in the best shape to be doing this?
18:46Fox had big plans for their rebooted
18:48Fantastic Four. A sequel was announced
18:50before Fantastic Four even began
18:52filming, with a planned release date of
18:54July 14, 2017.
18:56However, the movie was a massive critical
18:58and commercial bomb, earning only
19:00$168 million at the
19:02worldwide box office and a 9%
19:04rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
19:06The future of the franchise was immediately
19:08thrown into question, although it wasn't looking
19:10very good for the Marvel's first family.
19:12It's fantastic.
19:18Say that again? In December 2017,
19:20Disney announced that it was purchasing
19:22Fox's TV and film assets,
19:24a move that would place the future of the Fantastic
19:26Four in the hands of Marvel Studios.
19:28We saw how well it worked for Spider-Man,
19:30so fingers crossed.
19:32It's clobberin' time!
19:367. Terminator Genisys
19:38You are nothing but a relic
19:40from a deleted timeline.
19:42There once was a time when the Terminator series
19:44was the pinnacle of action cinema.
19:46Nowadays, we get the likes of Terminator Genisys,
19:48which many people found to be a
19:50convoluted, watered-down mess.
19:52The film earned only $89 million
19:54at the domestic box office,
19:56which was considered a massive disappointment
19:58for the iconic franchise.
20:00Why hold on to someone when you know you must let them go?
20:02Worse yet, Genisys was set to be the
20:04first movie of a new trilogy, but these plans
20:06were cancelled after the movie's numbers
20:08came in. It was then announced that James
20:10Cameron would be returning to the series,
20:12and that the next film would serve as a reboot
20:14and continue the story of Terminator 2.
20:16Hasta la vista, Genisys!
20:18Are you kidding me?
20:206. The Mortal Instruments City of Bones
20:22I'm a werewolf,
20:24not a golden machine.
20:26Hollywood desperately wants to find
20:28the next Harry Potter. While some young adult
20:30adaptations like The Hunger Games and
20:32Twilight have found success, many others
20:34have failed, but few as spectacularly
20:36as The Mortal Instruments.
20:38City of Bones opened poorly
20:40and never recovered, earning only
20:42$90 million on a $60 million
20:44budget.
20:46Plans for a sequel,
20:48City of Ashes, were made
20:50before the release of City of Bones,
20:52but due to the disappointing box office
20:54performance, these plans were put on hold.
20:56It was eventually announced that the sequel
20:58was cancelled, and that The Mortal Instruments
21:00would continue as a television series.
21:02I have no idea what you're talking about.
21:045. Superman Returns
21:06Who are you?
21:08I'm Clark Kent.
21:10Superman Returns served as
21:12a reboot-slash-sequel of the
21:14first two Superman movies, and
21:16ignored the third and fourth entries,
21:18which, let's be honest, was for the best.
21:20Stop! Don't do it! The people!
21:22Unfortunately, while many people
21:24considered it a decent movie, it was a
21:26disappointment at the box office, earning
21:28only $391 million
21:30against a $200-plus million
21:32budget. You wrote that the world
21:34doesn't need a savior,
21:36but every day I hear
21:38people crying for one. A sequel was
21:40planned and set to star Brainiac
21:42and Bizarro as villains, with much
21:44of the cast reprising their roles, but
21:46it was scrapped after the underperformance
21:48of Superman Returns. A reboot was
21:50planned instead, and Zack Snyder's
21:52Man of Steel was released
21:54seven years later.
21:56The Golden Compass.
21:58If you value your lives, come
22:00no further. Warner Bros. was
22:02really swinging for the fences with The Golden
22:04Compass, but hey, like we said,
22:06you gotta find the next Harry Potter. It was made
22:08on a $180 million
22:10budget, and starred various A-listers,
22:12including Nicole Kidman, Ian McKellen,
22:14and Daniel Craig. However, fans
22:16of the novel were incensed that the adaptation
22:18diluted the story's anti-religious
22:20themes, and significant studio
22:22interference negatively impacted
22:24the finished product. The movie received
22:26mediocre reviews and grossed only
22:28$70 million in the domestic market.
22:30Is that all?
22:32Due to the
22:34movie's underperformance and alleged pressure
22:36from the Catholic Church, New Line cancelled
22:38the remaining two entries of the series,
22:40leaving his Dark Materials fans without a
22:42satisfying conclusion to the on-screen
22:44story. Maybe we shouldn't be doing this.
22:46Number 3. The Last Airbender.
22:48I don't know how to bend the
22:50other elements. We didn't really have
22:52high hopes for M. Night Shyamalan's The
22:54Last Airbender, but it turned out to be even
22:56worse than we imagined. Not only did
22:58the movie generate a measly 6% on
23:00Rotten Tomatoes, it was heavily criticized
23:02for whitewashing many of its Asian
23:04characters. Despite the bile spat
23:06at the movie from both critics and fans,
23:08it managed to generate a respectable
23:10$319 million at the box
23:12office. While Shyamalan had planned
23:14to make a sequel featuring Azula as the
23:16villain, these plans never came to fruition.
23:18However, Shyamalan has expressed interest
23:20in making more Airbender movies at a
23:22future date, should the opportunity arise.
23:24Let's hope he's just trolling.
23:26I don't think that's a good idea.
23:28Number 2. John Carter.
23:30That don't look like a fair fight.
23:32Suffice it to say that Disney had big plans
23:34for the John Carter name. They allegedly
23:36put upwards of $350 million
23:38into the movie, including marketing
23:40costs, and the filmmakers reported that
23:42they were planning to make the series into a
23:44trilogy. Is that your expert view?
23:46The producers even began work on the second
23:48movie, The Gods of Mars, before
23:50John Carter was released to theaters.
23:52However, the film only made
23:54$284 million, and
23:56plans for the remaining two movies were quickly
23:58cancelled, while director Andrew Stanton
24:00returned to the world of 3D animated
24:02films, directing Finding Dory
24:04instead. Before we continue,

24:20Number 1.
24:22Green Lantern.
24:28Of all the superhero
24:30bombs, Green Lantern was the most
24:32spectacular. The film was yet another
24:34swing and a miss for DC, as it
24:36earned a 26% rating on
24:38Rotten Tomatoes, and only grossed
24:40$220 million on a massive
24:42$200 million budget. When you
24:44consider that the movie needed to make $500
24:46million to be considered a financial
24:48success, as speculated by The Hollywood
24:50Reporter, it's clear that Green Lantern
24:52was a massive failure.
24:54The studio's plans for
24:56an extended Green Lantern series were
24:58immediately scrapped, making its end
25:00credit teaser more than a little
25:02embarrassing.
