00:00Congratulations on winning the Strathpuffer, I believe, for the first time.
00:05How did you find the experience, first of all?
00:08The race itself, it was absolutely savage.
00:12The mental load throughout the whole thing, because of the snow and the sketchiness, was hard, hard going.
00:18But the spectators, the volunteers, the marshals, people giving you jelly babies.
00:23It was amazing. I've never felt anything like it.
00:26People out with their discos and laser lights and fairy lights on course.
00:30It was really special. It's really, really cool. It's such a cool event.
00:34It was your debut in the event. What inspired you to take part? How did you find out about it?
00:39I've been on the start before, but I haven't actually raced.
00:42I have a mortal fear of the cold, so I've managed to conveniently put it off every year.
00:49But I thought it was about time that I actually got on with it.
00:56You had quite a commanding lead in the end. Were you aware of that at any time in the race?
01:01A couple of times when I came through and Alan would update me.
01:05I had pals who were racing, so they were updating me as well.
01:12It was cool getting updated on the overall and how it got on.
01:15I can't believe how well it went, even though it felt awful.
01:19But I'm absolutely delighted.
01:21Have you had any kind of experience in this kind of event before?
01:24I've done the Highland Trail 550 and I've done other ultra, so I do a lot of bikepacking stuff.
01:30I used to race XC and I raced at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
01:35I've done bits and bobs here and there, but I do the longer stuff now.
01:42What did you race at the Commonwealth Games?
01:44Mountain biking, XC.
01:46What was tougher then or now?
01:49This is a whole other level of savage.
01:52This was so tough, but so rewarding to take off the laps and get round.
02:01I appreciate it's only minutes since you've won the title.
02:05Are you coming back next year to defend it?
02:07Too soon to say. At the minute, never again.
02:10We'll see.
