00:00Max is living the life a dog should, thanks to a successful story of adoption and companionship.
00:09It was just, it was like that instant, instant connection. It was lovely.
00:13Tom adopted Max three years ago as a puppy for his two sons.
00:17The boys just took to him so quickly that Max, I think, just felt like part of the family.
00:24And they haven't looked back in spite of the odd challenge.
00:27He was cheeky, don't get me wrong. Shoes, shoes, you know, the odd bit of furniture.
00:33Max was adopted from the Domestic Animal Services Shelter,
00:36where these dogs are well cared for, but by no means living their best life.
00:41People sort of do believe that there's a reason that dogs obviously come into the pounds.
00:45Reality is they're beautiful dogs looking for that second chance.
00:49The shelter has been at capacity for months due to a high number of surrendered dogs.
00:53Impounded dogs are those lost, found roaming or surrendered by their owner.
00:57Dogs placed on the adoption list are vaccinated, microchipped and have been behaviour assessed.
01:03They might be setting their ways for a few other things that need to be worked on,
01:06but majority of the time it's all very basic things that everyday people can take on.
01:11More than 400 dogs were rehomed in 2024, but some have been on the adoption list for more than 200 days,
01:17just waiting for the right human to come along.
01:20These dogs just want to deserve that second chance and happiness.
01:25Some of the wonderful characters that you will find here at the Domestic Animal Services
01:29will just benefit your family in so many ways.
01:31Around 40 dogs are currently on the adoption list.
