The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is celebrating Burns Night with its very own Robert Burns impersonator who has delivered a delightful ode to Haggis, the UK’s youngest pygmy hippo, at Edinburgh Zoo.

In honour of the Bard's way with words, the wildlife conservation charity’s new take on the Address to a Haggis is a toast to both Scottish tradition and one of the most beloved zoo residents.

00:00O Edinburgh, so proud and braw, The hills and streets that make me draw,
00:05With fondness in my heart say true, For thee and all thy wonders too.
00:09But now there's joy that fills the air, A wee bairn born, a creature rare,
00:13A wee hippo, so small and sweet, With stubby legs and muddy feet.
00:18Haggis is the name ye ken, A jolly soul, a tiny gem,
00:22Born beneath the Scottish sky, With eyes that gleam and make ye sigh.
00:27In the waters she does glide, A tiny splash with every stride,
00:31And in the mud she's seen to roll, With joy that fills her little soul.
00:35O Haggis wean, full of cheer, A treasure for the zoo, say dear,
00:39Thy gentle ways, thy playful glee, Brings a smile to all who come and see.
00:44Thy kin may roam and lands afar, But here you are, a star by far,
00:48A symbol of the zoo's delight, That lights the day and warms the night.
00:53And when ye grow, though still so small, We'll remember dear, the first of all,
00:57A baby hippo full of grace, A bairn that's left a lasting trace.
01:01So here's to Haggis, joy and pride, A wonder in the waters wide.
01:06May ye grow strong and never forget, The love we have in our hearts set.
01:11For in thy smile so full and bright, We see the world's purest light.
01:15And Edinburgh, O Zoo, say grand, Haggis shall walk with joy at hand.
