When a first lady of the United States quotes a movie, you know the film has left a mark on culture. Barbara Bush quoted lines from Ferris Bueller's Day Off in her commencement address at Wellesley College in 1990. Homages to the iconic movie are still being paid today. Movies like Easy A and commercials for Honda and Domino's Pizza are still referencing moments and lines from the picture. There is no doubt that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of the ultimate teen slacker movies of all time, but here are things only adults notice when watching it now.

00:00In 1986, the late John Hughes gave film audiences one of his most beloved teen dramedies, Anteen
00:08Heroes.
00:09Filled with memorable scenes, zippy one-liners, and a motley cast of characters, Ferris Bueller's
00:13Day Off is a film that not only stands the test of time, but helped define a genre.
00:18But watch this classic again as an adult, and you realize that more than a few parts
00:23of the movie are actually pretty cartoonish, and require a serious suspension of disbelief.
00:28Here are just a few examples.
00:31Unbelievable toys
00:32From his totally boss stereo to his killer IBM computer and beyond, Ferris has a bedroom
00:38that would make him the envy of any 80s teen.
00:40Hi Ferris, how's your bod?
00:43Oh my god, you're dying?
00:46Then there's that awesome synthesizer he uses to make convincing fart and vomit sound effects
00:51while rallying the troops at school.
00:53It's an Emu Emulator 2, the crème de la crème of synths used by 80s bands like Depeche
00:58Mode.
00:59It would've set Ferris' parents back about eight grand, an insane price tag, considering
01:04there's no evidence Ferris even knows how to really play it, or any other instrument,
01:08or that his parents are quite that well off.
01:11Never had one lesson.
01:15Wacky wardrobe
01:16Ferris changes his outfit an absurd nine times before Cameron even picks him up in the morning,
01:22pulling looks out of the ether like Bugs Bunny.
01:24All before 10 a.m., Ferris' assorted looks range from PJs to pool attire, from luau gear
01:29to hip jazz cat, various states of undress coming to and from the shower, plus his blue
01:34suit that he plans to wear to trick Mr. Rooney into thinking he's Sloane's dad.
01:39Time travel
01:40Early in the movie, Ferris and Cameron make their phony phone call to Ed Rooney from Ferris'
01:44house and disagree about how to handle picking up Sloane at school.
01:47To Ferris' dismay, Cameron, as Sloane's dad, blurts out that Mr. Rooney should have Sloane
01:52outside the school.
01:53"...in ten minutes by herself!"
01:56This leads to a series of events that would suspiciously take longer than ten minutes.
02:00Ferris and Cameron argue over the details, Ferris delivers an emotional apology, and
02:04the two are chums again.
02:06They then travel to Cameron's house, where Ferris convinces Cameron to borrow Cameron's
02:10dad's vintage Ferrari.
02:12They secure the vehicle and travel all the way to Shermer High, somehow arriving only
02:16a minute or so after Mr. Rooney and Sloane emerge.
02:19Identity crisis
02:20The biggest mystery about Sloane Peterson is how seamlessly she goes from utter terror
02:25that Ferris' dad might spot her in the taxi line at the restaurant to nonchalance about
02:29making kissy faces to Mr. Bueller later from the backseat of another taxi cab.
02:33Sure, she has those Ray-Ban sunglasses on as a brilliant disguise, but even perpetually
02:38oblivious Mr. Bueller must recognize his son's super-serious girlfriend, right?
02:43Considering Ferris proposed to Sloane back at the stock exchange, things might get pretty
02:47awkward at the wedding.
02:50Mysterious gifts
02:51Aside from a quick visit from Mrs. Bueller to check in on an ailing Ferris, and Ferris'
02:55sister Jeannie's time at home when she kicks Mr. Rooney in the face and huddles in her
02:59bedroom to call the police, the Bueller home is mostly empty for the day while Ferris enjoys
03:03his time off.
03:04Yet when everyone comes home at 6 p.m., the hallways are filled to the rafters with the
03:08balloon and flower deliveries sent by the entire town to wish Ferris a speedy recovery.
03:13So who accepted all those deliveries?
03:15It couldn't have been Jeannie.
03:16In fact, we see her slam the door in the singing telegram nurse's face.
03:20And it likely wasn't Mr. Rooney, because the one vase of flowers we saw him pick up ended
03:24up on the head of the family's Rottweiler.
03:26Does Ferris have a robot butler among his many fabulous toys?
03:30The late bus
03:31Ferris Bueller's day off is loaded with brilliant moments and immensely quotable lines, but
03:36the fun doesn't stop when the credits roll.
03:38You've gotta love seeing the disheveled and broken Mr. Rooney accepting a warm gummy bear
03:42from his bespectacled bus seatmate, set to the unforgettably catchy strains of Yellow's
03:47Oh Yeah.
03:48I bet you never smelled a real school bus before."
03:53But when you watch it again as an adult, you realize there's something peculiar about that
03:57school bus filled with teens pulling up to Mr. Rooney and asking him if he needs a ride.
04:01We know it's now long past 6 o'clock p.m., and those kids should have been home hours
04:05ago.
04:06Who are these kids?
04:07Is the driver lost?
04:08Considering everything else he managed to pull off, sticking Rooney on this bizarre
04:12bus just might be Ferris' handiwork.
04:15It's good for him.
04:17It teaches him to deal with his fear.
