00:00I've said for the last eight and a half years, I believe in being tough on crime, that's
00:05why I funded 1,300 officers, funded 500 PCSOs, doubled the funding the police received, got
00:12neighbourhood teams, but also tough on the causes of crime, investing in youth workers,
00:16youth clubs, mentoring and so forth. It's really important to do both. We need to make
00:21sure we support the police, that's why I was really pleased we got additional money from
00:24the government, an increase of more than 34%. Still want to give the government more
00:29money for next year, but the Met Police Service knows, as do Londoners, since I've been there,
00:35we've more than doubled funding to the police, I'm going to carry on supporting the police.
00:38It sounds like you're hopeful then of possibly reducing those cuts to some extent?
00:41Oh look, what Samar set out a number of months ago was the consequences on the current trajectory.
00:49The good news is there's been huge progress made since then, and over the course of the
00:53next few weeks we're working closely with the Met Police Service, with my team at City
00:57Hall, with the Home Office, to make sure we can support the police as much as we can financially,
01:03but also work with the police to lobby the government in advance of the spending review
01:07next year, oh this year, very partly.
