00:00I think I couldn't motivate myself to go and do any racing if I'm not aiming to win.
00:12Sometimes it's not realistic to think that you should win, but I also like to be unrealistic.
00:18If you prepare like a winner, you will become a winner one day.
00:26I see how much effort I put into thinking Dakar, preparing for Dakar, and my entire motorsport career I always had the number one priority.
00:36In the early days it was DTM, then it was Rallycross, and now it's Dakar, so anything else is a priority.
00:45What I love is that you have to be extremely fit, you have to be mentally strong, you have to have a very good technical feeling to be able to find a good setup for it.
00:56I do think it's a very complex motorsport.
01:01When it comes down to dust, to navigation and all these certain things, it can be so painful, it's so frustrating.
01:09But that's also what keeps the motivation in me to try and conquer and master it.
01:14As a former V8 lover, I did most of my motorsport career driving V8s, so I know the feeling, I know the sound, I know how to drive them.
01:24So for me it's a little bit coming back to where I came from, driving such a car.
01:35It's an iconic car already, the sound of it and the looks of it, I said straight away, it's great.
01:42We just have to see if we can make it as performant as it looks great.
01:46I mean, in the end, the result makes the car sexy as well.
01:49Nobody in my book cares who won one stage or who finished second, it's all about the winner here.
01:56And I think that's also what's cool about the Dakar, it's all about winning it.
02:02It's nicer to be in the battle, in the top three, versus being 20th and out of contention.
02:08So in a blink of a second, then you're out of it, but that can happen to anyone.
02:14I can say we are going to try, as long as we are in it, we will give it our very best to fight for it.
02:21Mattias Ekström is indeed still in the running for a first Dakar victory this year.
02:25The Swedish star is 25 minutes off the pace as the Ultimates prepare for a spectacular showdown in the empty quarter.
02:34It was actually one of my favourite bits of the Dakar last year, so I actually look forward to go there this year again.
02:42I feel we are getting better and better prepared every day.
02:47I'm not going to be shy and say I'm not going to give them any presents.
02:51I won't be rude either, but they will have to fight for it.
02:56The one who should win it should deserve it.
