Outrage Over Digging Up By Old Graves in Shrewsbury
Transcript
00:00She's brought some flowers along today to lay at the graveyard and clearly she's not gone on to the site but you know I think the sentiment is there and thank you for raising this with us.
00:17I think that there's a lot of concerns about this. I've spoken to planning and there has been a technical breach in terms of not getting an archaeological report in before starting this work.
00:32I think we also need to be reassured that there are the correct permits from the Ministry of Justice and so I think it would be good to have that reassurance.
00:43I would also like there to be better communication with everybody.
00:50Some communication would be good.
00:52Some communication would be good because this isn't a normal building plot. This is a very sensitive site. This is a cemetery. There are living relatives of people who are actually buried here.
01:08So I think some better communication about the sort of work that is being done or planned to be done is definitely what's needed.
01:19And the fact that so many of you have turned out at really short notice and not a huge amount of advertising is really great and shows the strength of feeling here to make sure that this plot remains an important part of our community both in terms of environmentally and also in terms of the fact that this is a cemetery.
01:46So thank you everyone for coming along and thank you for supporting the relatives of the people who are buried here.
01:53And watch this space because I suspect there's going to be further moves with this development hopefully with better collaboration and we can hopefully have a little bit more notice when things like this are going to be happening.
