00:00How are EU gas reserves holding up against the halt of Russian supplies?
00:09The suspension of Russian gas flows through Ukraine sparked concerns about the gas supply across the EU.
00:16Moscow supplied nearly 40% of the EU's natural gas via pipelines.
00:21The latest figures show that Portugal has the highest working gas storage volume, exceeding 100%.
00:29Sweden follows at 88% and Poland at nearly 80%.
00:34By contrast, the Netherlands has the lowest working gas volume in storage at 49.6%,
00:41followed by Croatia at 50.7% and France at 52.4%.
00:48Despite these numbers, Portugal has the third smallest reserve in Europe at 3.59 terawatt hours,
00:56while Germany has the biggest at 181 terawatt hours.
01:01As temperatures drop across much of the bloc,
01:04the European Commission maintains that the security of gas supply is not under threat.
01:10However, EU stockpiles have decreased from around 95 billion cubic meters
01:16at the beginning of November to just 75 billion cubic meters.
01:21The reduction represents roughly a quarter of the bloc's annual gas consumption
01:26since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
