00:00We've got a red flag, Karun. We had a yellow flag in sector 2 a moment ago.
00:04I'm just looking and that is why. Alex Albon has had a big contact with the barrier at some point.
00:12He's getting the medical car. There we go. Here, look. All right, let's go on board with him.
00:17This is 6, turning right and then gets a little bit, oh, bounces off the curve. The car didn't
00:24ride that curve very well, which is just sort of spat him off to the wall on the right. And
00:30that's interesting because Alex yesterday, talking to Ted, mentioned that he was concerned about
00:34curves and the fact that the car is a bit wide, wider than certainly anyone would want to be.
00:42That's quite a bit of damage there because he's hit the right-hand side heavily there.
00:48And then also watch, it's going to keep sending him into the wall. Bang, left-hand side.
00:54Yeah, sorry. Snatched away from him. Yellow flag in 1 and 2 right now. He's gone off.
01:02Logan Sargent, is it? It is, I think, in the Williams. Lost a lot of the front wing.
01:07So this is turn 7. That's the barrier in turn 7 before the first of the Degners.
01:13And I should imagine he's tried to keep his foot down. Remember, he says he's OK. That's the main
01:18thing. Sargent was having a more straightforward session up to this point than Alex Albon. Albon's
01:22only done seven laps and only a few of them have actually been timed. He's been doing some
01:26set-up work. We're just seeing the replay, Ted. Sorry, Rachel, you need to come in.
01:30I just want Alex to talk us through that replay just for one second there. Yeah, that's what I
01:33expected. But the problem it has is a bit of a heavy hit. Luckily, it went in with the nose.
01:40And we're just watching the onboard here, Ted, before we come back to you. So he is turn 7. He
01:44keeps it flat and he just gets onto the grass, like I thought. A real rough ride over the gravel.
01:50And I think luckily... I'm sorry, man. Yeah, I'm OK.
01:58In the backgrounds that look like one of the RBs and also the Williams of Alex Albon. Early safety
02:05car is going to come in here as Oskar Piastri still trying to get round past Fernando Alonso
02:10and not quite making it up through the S's. And for me, that's just a racing incident and wrong
02:15place at the wrong time for Albon, as we're probably going to see here, because he's going
02:18to stay with him, I hope, all the way through Turn 1. So it was a pretty decent getaway from
02:23Albon. Remember, on the soft tyres as well, he was of the same mindset as Fernando Alonso. So
02:29now he's going to line himself up on the exit of Turn 2, duck to the inside. A gap opens up
02:33momentarily. And then Ricciardo, I think, reacts to the... Was it the Aston Martin on his left hand
02:38side? He was unsighted. That, for me, is unfortunate. For a brief moment, a double yellow
02:47flag being waved down towards Turn 2. I think it might have been... Oh no, it's that! It's Kevin
02:53Magnussen. I say somebody has just gone off the track and he has hit the wall and Logan Sargent's
02:59involved as well. Oh, and in his home race, Logan Sargent. Let's see how this one unfolds.
03:06Down the outside, it all looks fairly normal. They just touch.
03:11Turn 1, they got round, and now Magnussen holds it round the outside. And was he entitled to a bit
03:18more room under the driving guidelines? Certainly, Logan Sargent will have wished he'd have given him
03:23more room, because they might still be racing around on this track. Let's have a look on
03:27board with the Williams.
03:33Didn't know he was there, did he? It's a pretty unorthodox place to be
03:36trying to overtake. I want to see it from... Yeah, his front axle wasn't alongside. We got a yellow
03:43flag, we got a car in the wall, then. Exeter Turn 4. That could, if he doesn't... He's not able to
03:48move that. That will obviously be a safety car, if not even a red flag. Should be able to cover
03:52that under a safety car. So, I want to see what tyres they're all on as they left the pit lane.
03:58They're all inters, I'm hearing. They are... Oh, there we go. Just drops it on the
04:02They're all inters, I'm hearing. They are... Oh, there we go. Just drops it on the
04:06kerb. And they are all intermediates out there. Lando Norris is far enough ahead with the long
04:12safety car we're now going to have. He still could get in the pits and get his pit stop done.
04:17He's halfway down the back straight. Verstappen is just making his way around the hairpin. And,
04:22yeah, he did hit the barriers at Logan Sargent. Yeah. Rearwards into it. And there we've got
04:29Alex Albon against the wall. Carlos Sainz spinning around in the grass. And I told you that there's
04:35still a bit of jeopardy to go in this race. When they... I think they were very close together.
04:40They were racing, weren't they, Sainz and Albon? They just got into the points at Carlos Sainz.
04:46And I think Sainz had just passed Alex Albon and up in the 10th place.
04:50He's going to get a safety car then now. One Williams out earlier in the race. And I think
04:54the other Williams to follow him now. And, yes, we have Martin got a safety car.
04:59Sorry, guys. Couldn't do anything about it. He said, I just lost control on the kerbs. And that's
05:02exactly what happened. And as he spanned around, sadly, Alex Albon had nowhere to go. And that's
05:07taken both of them out of the race. We lost Logan Sargent, Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, Alex Albon
05:13and Carlos Sainz. Two Ferraris, two Williams and a Sergio Perez who scored just four points in the
05:20last three races. It's one of those silly spins as a racing driver. Nothing telegraphs you.
05:28There's going to happen. And it's just a big, lazy slide that you can't do anything about. It's a
05:33really hopeless feeling. He obviously just touched it, touched the slightly, the more he slid, the
05:39more he touched the wet track. But it was already going around on the way into the corner, wasn't it?
05:45If he had put his foot on the brake, he may have stopped short of whacking into Albon.
05:50Oh, Logan Sargent, who crashed here in qualifying last year, has had a mighty off, I'm afraid,
05:56at turn four. And that is definitely a red flag. Let's have a look at the replay now.
06:02Going around turn three, Hugenholtz. Oh, he's got the grass. Oh, no.
06:12He's just eager to get his foot down on the exit of turn three. So, yeah, it happened a lot earlier,
06:16actually, in that run up towards turn seven than I thought. So that's what it takes. You put your
06:21wheel on the grass and you lose an awful lot of grip. And that's a hard hit into the Armco barrier
06:26there, isn't it? It's about 110 miles an hour in the wet, something like that, maybe a little bit
06:32less. But such are these fine margins between a perfect exit and a trip into the barriers. And
06:42with the tyre flying off as well, you can see the photographers taking a few paces back. And
06:48Oskar Piastri avoiding running over any of the debris. A yellow flag brought out, followed by
06:56a red flag. And I think that is Franco Colopinto in the wall. He said he's OK. Just on the exit of
07:03four. James Vals with a steely look to the pit wall. Here is onboard Colopinto then. Karun,
07:11just take us through this. Yeah. So he turns into four and just lost the back end on entry. It was
07:17very wide. I think he turned a bit late, actually, and got on the dust. I think that's why the rear
07:22got around. It wasn't high speed, but it did a lot of damage. Yeah. And you have to keep in
07:28context, right? The reason. Sorry. Sorry for that. Tell you what, Piastri and Gasly came very,
07:35very close to contact, but there was contact with an Alpine. Alex Albon hitting Esteban Ocon and
07:40sending him. And, you know, that's birthday and Christmas all at once, isn't it? He did what
07:45Lando did in the sprint yesterday, stuck to the inside of that corner. Now you've got Alex Albon
07:52and ahead of him is Esteban Ocon. There's Lewis Hamilton on the inside. And there is how Esteban
07:58Ocon got spun around. Oh, that's a big car in the barriers here. And he is the Williams. It is the
08:06Williams into the barriers there. OK, here we go. So Berman's going along there. You can see the
08:14light flashing. He's recovering energy. Oh, that's just the wrong place at the wrong time,
08:18isn't it? Albon got a snap of oversteer there and Berman. Idiot.
08:26I'm not sure. He obviously didn't expect Berman to slow down there. I think Berman thought
08:31I'll get out of the way and go slowly, completely offline.
08:35And a big, big crash. I think Danica's point, it was a complete misunderstanding there because
08:40Berman thought I'm going to I'm going to move fully out of the way, stay on the right hand
08:44side, away from the racing line and slow down. And Alex obviously didn't expect to see him there.
08:51And perhaps when he tried to sort of back out of it, got a snap of oversteer because
08:55actually, let's see, look, railway cameras will show us. He's already, is he not? He's come off
09:02the curve, but I think it's a reaction. Sorry, that was Albon. You hit me. You hit me again.
09:09Well, I'm out. Are you OK? Yeah, I'm fine. The car is damaged.
09:16We're ready to go in Mexico City. It's lights out and away we go. It is 760 metres down towards
09:24Turn 1 and it's Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz not going wheel to wheel because Verstappen has
09:29got slightly ahead. Lando Norris coming to join the party as is Charles Leclerc. Verstappen has
09:34got the lead and there goes the R.B. of Yuki Tsunoda as Carlos Sainz goes straight over on
09:41the grass and takes the lead. But will he have to give that place back? Verstappen second, Norris
09:45third. Oh, Alex Albon, he got hit at the first corner last weekend, severely damaged his diffuser
09:53and I think he got collected by Yuki Tsunoda and he's out of this race too. And it's dreadful luck
09:59for the man starting from ninth place and hoping for a points finish and we can have a look at what
10:03happened here, Martin. Yeah, I'm just looking in the background to see where we'll look at that
10:10first. Yeah, so it was literally just contact in the middle of the pack. Alex Albon with the yellow
10:19on the engine cover. Tsunoda getting a really good slipstream, didn't quite get ahead. Three times
10:25they touched, nearly got ahead under braking and Alex Albon clipped him. I think Tsunoda just
10:30slightly moved over. Yeah, to be honest, when I see incidents like that, it amazes me they don't
10:36happen more often. So it really was, it was just a squeeze, wasn't it? It was the Alpine
10:43of Gasly squeezed Albon over. He had nowhere to go and unfortunately for Yuki Tsunoda, I don't
10:50think he did anything wrong there, Tsunoda. But as I say, I watched that and wonder why it doesn't
10:54happen more often actually. At first I thought Tsunoda might have moved over on Alex Albon. I
10:58don't think he did actually. I think Alex Albon had to move over towards Yuki Tsunoda because
11:03that's where he got squeezed by the Alpine. Yeah, the Alpine came slightly left and... Sorry, I just...
11:08It's just the way you go.
11:12Solid. We got a red flag and this could be Colopinto touching the barriers then. I can't
11:18quite see from our commentary box where that Williams is and I think he's gone in quite hard
11:21because the medical car has been deployed and there he is. Franco Colopinto has gone into the
11:27barriers. Now the red flag is out. Go on board with Franco Colopinto. So you can feel the edginess.
11:33Yeah, but he's taking the wider line. That's okay, in a way. Let's listen. Oh yeah, just wheelspin.
11:38Just the rear right tyre was on, you know, it was like train tracks. You're going to stay
11:44within the train track. He took the wide line, that's okay. You can find grip there. Now watch.
11:49Sorry mate.
11:52There, the rear right tyre just got on the slightly wetter part. He was slightly outside the
11:58train tracks and unfortunately, as he sort of said there, pure driver error. And it's another red flag
12:03and that is why stationary Alex Albon who, if you remember, had a tangling with Kevin Magnussen
12:10at the start here and made it to turn one but not with all wheels attached, has had a big moment
12:17and I'm glad he's saying he's okay. But that is a big, big crash for Alex Albon who currently
12:24occupies road two. Let's take a look at this. So he's drifting up to the right-hand side of the
12:29track. Oh, he starts to lose it. The rear of the car, under brake, it's like he started to lock
12:34the rear but he kept his hands on the wheel. Did the brakes fail? We're checking. Oh, Alex, are you
12:40okay? Yeah. We're checking on the brakes. So from outside, brakes look okay. Can you still hear me?
12:47Oh, sorry, Bernie. Now that is Franco Colopinso and this will be a red flag. Yeah. I know we're
12:53behind the safety car but this will be a red flag and this will be a big game for Esteban Ocon,
13:00Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly who haven't pitted in this race yet. And there's your red flag
13:08and Franco Colopinso who's just been into the pits. And well, no one ever wishes for a red
13:14flag because the driver's gone off but this could not have worked out better at Verstappen and that
13:18couldn't have worked out worse for Franco Colopinso and that's another big accident for the Williams
13:25team who've got a lengthy check to write out for the crash damage this weekend. Wow, just look at
13:31the debris that's gone. That's all over the circuits. That'll have to get swept up during
13:37this red flag. Damage on the side there from the radiator, cooling liquids just spilling out onto
13:43the circuit as well. Maybe. Sunoda goes fastest and that's Franco Colopinso and for the first time this
13:49weekend we have had a driver hit the wall. Gasly goes fourth fastest. Was there contact
13:56between the two cars? That's an Alpine ahead. Oh, he's hit the wall. He clipped the wall on the inside.
14:06Yeah, just a total judgment error there. He's just turned in too much. That's the sort of thing we
14:12we see in Monaco through the Swingpool chicane. Drivers will hit the armco, that will move.
14:18Concrete block is not going to move. Yeah, that was just pure judgmental error, I'm afraid.
14:28And wow, what a lot of damage. So he's hit the wall at well over 25g because the medical car was deployed.
14:40But into turn one Verstappen's on the inside and on the extreme inside is Norris and that is
14:46Nico Hülkenberg into Ocon, into Colopinso who was very much the innocent party and all that
14:52as probably was Esteban Ocon as well. He was. We ran on board with Esteban Ocon.
14:56A reasonable start. No cars coming past him yet. So he's in the middle of the circuit
15:03heading into turn one. Brakes relatively early. Oh, but he, yeah, Nico lost the rear of the car
15:09and it just hit the front front tyre there. But yeah, disastrous for Williams. Obviously no fourth
15:14of Franco's but a lot of damage. Well, we could ride on board now with Nico Hülkenberg in the Haas
15:20and in his attempt on the hard tyres, which would have been a bit colder than those on the mediums,
15:27it all went awry. You've got to feel a little bit sorry here for Franco Colopinso. We're on board
15:32with Alex Albon as an Alex Albon gets hit. Massively hit by Stroll. Yeah, copy that.
15:39I knew he was going to do it. I could tell. Let's just have a little look at the restart
15:45from the virtual safety car. He's right behind the Williams, as you can see. Is there a chance
15:51of Oscar when he touches? He makes contact there with Franco Colopinso. Has he damaged the wing?
15:57But he'll certainly have some tyres that resemble a 50 pence piece. If you know the UK coinage.
16:05He has got past Colopinso, who has got a puncture.
