Gareth Gates is bringing his latest show ‘Love Songs from the Movies’ to Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre

We speak to Gareth Gates, former Pop Idol runner up, who is going on tour with his latest show.

00:00Hey, I'm Gareth Gates and we're at the Pavilion Theatre here in Glasgow

00:04ahead of a show that I'm doing here on the 13th of February

00:08called Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies.

00:10So I've put together a brand new show

00:13called Gareth Gates Sings Love Songs from the Movies.

00:16One of my biggest hits and my first ever number one

00:20was a song called Unchair Melody,

00:22which was made famous by the movie Ghost.

00:25And that got me thinking, most of the world's greatest love songs

00:29come from movies.

00:31And so I've put together an evening of all these big hits

00:34from movies like Titanic, A Star is Born, Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman.

00:40And I think it's going to be the perfect show for Valentine's,

00:43which is amazing because we're here on the 13th of February.

00:47I've got loads of great memories from Glasgow over the years.

00:52I have a few very good friends that live here

00:55and they always take me out to great places.

00:58I've been to to the garage a few times, which is always good fun.

01:02I know the owner there, Donald, and he he always gives me a good night.

01:08And so after after most of my shows here, I end up heading out.

01:12But the the theatre here is just just great.

01:14I mean, it's beautiful venue.

01:17And to be playing here again is a real thrill.

01:20Pop Idol was great for me.

01:22It's a great platform for anybody who wants to get into the industry.

01:27In fact, I had a interview yesterday with the lovely Michelle McManus,

01:32who was obviously from the same Pop Idol show format.

01:37And we kind of reminisced and spoke about how how great these shows are.

01:42I think any advice I'd give to anybody would just be to work hard.

01:47You know, I I practiced a lot as a child on my various instruments.

01:51I play and, you know, just to give yourself the best opportunity

01:55and to persevere because the industry is quite tough

01:58and it sometimes takes a while to break into.

02:00But if you if you determined, you know, and you put the work in,

02:04then you're giving yourself the best opportunity, I guess.
