Donald's Ostrich is a 1937 Donald Duck cartoon. It is the first cartoon starring Donald Duck to be branded as a Donald Duck cartoon.
In which he plays a train station custodian in charge of the loading and unloading of crates and luggage. In the beginning of the cartoon, a train unloads a bunch of cargo, among which is dropped off an ostrich in a crate. The ostrich is named Hortense, and the rest of the cartoon deals with the havoc she creates at the station as she proceeds to eat anything lying around. Hortense also falls in love with Donald Duck at first sight and kisses him repeatedly, much to his dismay. The radio stations initially provide secondary humor, but later on the visuals reflect the stations to a great extent. As with most of the Disney shorts of this era the backgrounds are a work of art.

This is the first cartoon in the Donald Duck series to feature the blue sunburst background in the opening card in the original theatrical release, which is in stark contrast to the Mickey Mouse series which uses the yellow sunburst background in the opening card.
The blue sunburst opening card background used for the Donald Duck series would later be re-used for the short-lived Chip and Dale and Humphrey the Bear cartoons in the 1950s.
The opening card for the Donald Duck cartoons in Mickey Mouse Works is based on the "Donald Duck" opening card from this short.
The Here's Donald! VHS and LaserDisc of the cartoon uses the original opening and closing titles.
A black-and-white 9.5 mm reel featured deleted scenes from the short.
This short may have been a recreation by Jack King of his short "Porky's Pet", a similar short about a main character with their pet ostrich he directed for Warner Brothers in 1936.
The opera singer on the radio is thought to be Adriana Caselotti.
