00:00Five o'clock, Lomas Brown Lions Radio scouts the Detroit operation for us.
00:21And at 530, we'll look ahead to Monday's national championship game in college football with
00:28Danny Connell.
00:29We're counting down to playoff football in D.C. on Grant and Danny.
00:34We want to hear from you guys, who's going to the game and how did it come about?
00:38What is the plan?
00:39How much did you drop?
00:40What is your travel itinerary looking like?
00:42And if you're staying home, what are you going to do?
00:45Because you and I have had this debate over the years, Danny, never for a game of this
00:48magnitude.
00:49But there are times along the way when the Caps are making their cup run or the Nats
00:54are going deep into October.
00:56When you start to prioritize, I've got to enjoy this.
00:58I've got to lock in.
00:59I want to hear the calls and the broadcast.
01:03It's not just about high five and friends when good things happen, but you've also been
01:08waiting so long for this.
01:09You've been on those text chains with your dudes, your chicks, you know, your friends,
01:14and now's your chance to revel in this joy together.
01:17So I wonder how people are going to take the game in.
01:19Yeah, there's no right way.
01:21Everybody's fandom is different and it's yours.
01:23Don't apologize for it.
01:24So for the Nats postseason run, for example, after you and I would do the pregame show,
01:30I would end up watching with buddies a lot, especially for the road games, the ones that
01:33were at home.
01:34Of course, you and I were at pretty much every one of those for the Capitals.
01:38It was it was similar for this, for football games or a little bit different, because obviously
01:42we have to dissect so much that goes into it.
01:44I kind of need to focus and lock in more.
01:46But this is, again, a different animal in so much as it's a it's a postseason game,
01:50right?
01:51Normally, like your week 13 tilt, I've got to be able to talk about that play in the
01:54third quarter.
01:55And I'm taking notes kind of throughout and sort of locked in in a way that's not very
01:58social.
01:59But this is to your point, this is this like shared experience.
02:02So I don't blame you if you want to go to a bar.
02:04I don't blame you if you want to have a watch party.
02:05I don't blame you.
02:06However, you want to take this in because it's so rare.
02:09It's probably the right call.
02:10Well, I also think we have to take our proclivities out of it because of what we do.
02:14Right.
02:15We have to have the notes and be ready to go the next day, although I will say I think
02:18that a Saturday game opens up the options extensively, like when they played Sunday
02:23night in Tampa Bay, I knew with travel and everything, getting on the plane at five
02:28in the morning and getting back here and getting into the studio, it was going to be really
02:32hard for me to rewatch the game the way that I want to.
02:34I could do a content game pretty easily and take some notes, but I was going to be able
02:37to go back and watch everything.
02:40A Saturday night game and we're not on until Monday afternoon.
02:44If I wanted to get together with people and watch, we could absolutely pull that off.
02:48I got all day Sunday to go back and do a lot of my own research and some of those things.
02:53It actually is fortuitous in that way.
02:56If you're talking about covering the game, I mean, I guess the question first for us
02:59would be what would be your perfect way?
03:00Obviously, I'm going to be there.
03:01I'm going to Detroit.
03:02I'm excited about it.
03:03I've like so many people in this town, you know, only covered a few playoff games ever
03:09for obvious reasons, but it's one of those where I didn't want to miss the atmosphere.
03:13Frankly, if this game was in L.A., I probably would not have made it a priority to go.
03:20Not just because of the travel, but as cool as SoFi Stadium is, it just wouldn't have
03:24been as significant a division round matchup.
03:29Even if it was in Philly, which is easy travel, so I'd like to have attended, I'm going because
03:34of the scene in Detroit, largely.
03:36I want to see my team, obviously, but I believe this is as good an atmosphere in the playoffs
03:41as we've seen in the last 20 years.
03:44These Lions fans, their obsession with this Dan Campbell operation, they've had two weeks
03:49to buy these tickets and to ramp up their energy.
03:52They'll be partying all day, morning and afternoon, long before nighttime kick tomorrow.
03:56I really believe that we overuse the word electric when it comes to atmosphere.
04:01That's what it is.
04:02I think this is going to be unlike anything we've probably seen Washington play in a while.
04:05It's up there with like major college football atmospheres, you know what I mean, where it's
04:09just you're waiting around and the whole city is behind it and it's a buzz and they're galvanized,
04:16they're focused and they're starving, quite frankly.
04:18I mean, that's the extra part of it.
04:20And it's not starving with a nine and 17 that snuck in, hoping that they catch a break.
04:24You know what I mean?
04:25Those those Jim Caldwell teams that were fine, pretty decent, even that blue lead against
04:29Dallas that had a home playoff game, you know, you know, hope that even loud, they know they've
04:34got it.
04:35Yeah.
04:36Like they there's a confidence to it.
04:37There's a there's a you puff your chest out a little bit more.
04:39There's an energy there.
04:41That's the perfect storm.
04:42A team that hasn't done it in decades or really ever.
04:46And a team that can absolutely do it and probably should do it, to be honest with you.
04:49Eight hundred six, three, six, one, oh, six, seven, you want to hop in on the MGM National
04:53Harbor listener lines.
04:54We want to know about your plans for game night on Saturday.
04:58I I think I'm a less is more guy for these, like in terms of gatherings.
05:03So maybe my perfect ideal situation would be posting up in the basement with the big
05:08screen.
05:09I probably invite mom and dad because I just grew up watching, falling in love with this
05:13team, with my parents.
05:16That would be my siblings that would want to come.
05:17I can only imagine one of them who's a big fan would make the trek.
05:21But and then maybe like brother in law, but like really diehard marks and probably keep
05:25it small, like familial and do like a, you know, 10 to 15 and in the crib more so than
05:31like a Super Bowl party, which I'm all for those, by the way, I love going to Super Bowl
05:35party that just a different atmosphere like this.
05:38This is too important.
05:39There's too much on the line.
05:40What if Washington was in the Super Bowl?
05:41Would you do this?
05:42Well, do it.
05:43That's a whole nother discussion.
05:44I don't know.
05:45I've never had to think about that.
05:46I can't answer that just yet, but I mean, maybe at that point you got to go right to
05:53the Super Bowl.
05:54You got to find a way.
05:55But so your perfect situation is it's buddies without kids, which is now pretty much impossible.
06:01Oh, you know what I mean?
06:03Because when you're the guy that when you get married, says no kids, 100 percent.
06:07But we what we what ends up happening is when you're a parent, there's no dad's watching
06:13the game.
06:14It's inevitable.
06:15There's loud noises.
06:16There's distractions.
06:17Whether it's your friends, kids, it's your kids.
06:19They're in the room because that's where everyone else is.
06:20There's noise.
06:21So now they're in there.
06:22Now, all of a sudden, they're playing with the Lego and now they need help with the Nintendo
06:24switch or whatever.
06:27That's to me, the best is my is a couple like minded fellas that are living and dying just
06:31like I am.
06:32I need the snide comments from the one dude that's the pessimist.
06:35I need optimistic Oliver to tell you that even though they just ran it for twenty five
06:38on two consecutive plays, the next play will go your way.
06:40You want that.
06:41I need everything.
06:42I need those ingredients of for the big game, all the buddies in the room, no kids as much
06:48as I'm generally anti biggest game of the year in a bar environment.
06:52I got to tell you, I got videos from my buddies who run a couple of places.
06:57Jeremy over at Walters sent me the vibe of that night.
07:01Just great.
07:02It was I think it was the doink field goal reaction and it was Bedlam.
07:05And same with we were just out at Crystal City Sports Pub.
07:08Yep.
07:09And Jimmy sent me a text.
07:10Same thing.
07:11We were at Times Square in New York.
07:12That place was slam, just like Walters was.
07:14But I get that, like wanting to just be around other people and share that unbridled joy
07:20and just the giddiness, it's pretty fun to be around strangers who want to hug you.
07:25It's not a very common thing.
07:26It doesn't happen a lot.
07:27Sports is one of the few things that can bring community together like that.
07:30Yeah.
07:31Juan Soto gets a base hit.
07:32You don't mind that you're covered in beer and that your neighbor is a stranger.
07:35Let's embrace.
07:36Let's go to Drew's in Columbia on Grant and Danny Drew.
07:39What are your plans for the game?
07:40Hey, guys.
07:41Well, so it was harder to get everyone to go.
07:45I'm actually going and hanging out with Joe Hagedead because his normal crew and our normal
07:49crew couldn't go.
07:50But we had we had a couple of groups, so we decided to go together and I'm going to hit
07:56the plane tomorrow.
07:57Nice.
07:58Where are you sitting?
07:59In section 134, relatively close.
08:00Oh, so you got a great seat.
08:01Yeah.
08:02We were buying those tickets in Tampa before leaving Tampa.
08:03I love that.
08:05If you don't mind, how much are you dropping on a ticket?
08:08It was a little over.
08:09Yeah.
08:10Hey, you don't know when the next time you're going to get to go to one of these is.
08:11I get it.
08:12I will tell you, Danny, the most money I've ever spent on tickets to anything were in
08:13Vegas for the Cap Stanley Cup.
08:14I think it was twelve hundred apiece for me and my wife for game two of the Stanley Cup
08:15if I remember.
08:16And that was a great time.
08:17I love that.
08:18I love that.

10:26I love that.
10:27I love that.
10:28Hey hey how you doing?
10:29I'm heading up there.
10:30I love your point.
10:31You want to get your best buddy to live and breathe it just like you do to Alex and I
10:36from Alexandria…
10:37I live in North Carolina now.
10:38But we're heading up to Detroit.
10:39I heard there's a skins bar actually so we're going to try to do that, rally around it and
10:44to your point, you run the risk that if you know we're playing a tough team and it doesn't
10:48go great, but you know for the chance that it works and obviously to be there and support
10:53these guys, it's all worth it.
10:54I think you got to be there just in case right?
10:56That's kind of the idea.
10:57What's the skins bar?
10:58I've been asked a million times by people.
11:00So we were told this place called vertical, uh, by a buddy in Detroit.
11:04So maybe he's setting us up to get, uh, to get lion Bush there, but, uh, we were told
11:09that some skins fans might be meeting there.
11:10So we're going to try to find those guys and at least the lead into the game is going to
11:14be outstanding.
11:15And obviously the way this team's been winning, uh, you never know what's going to happen.
11:18Yeah.
11:19You got Jaden Daniels.
11:20You're going to have a shot.
11:21800 636 1067.
11:22If you're staying back, what's your plan?
11:25If you're going to the game, how did it materialize?
11:27Want to know how you're going to watch the biggest Washington football game since 1991.
