00:00All right well the first rider out of the gate is going to be our bronze medalist in the overall
00:05last year Anna Martinez riding out of Chamonix came at a boarder cross as a kid and then
00:11introduced to freeride and loved it. Anna Martinez now on this extremely steep top section of the
00:18La Bamba phase. You can tell she's from Chamonix and she's comfortable in that steep terrain 53
00:23degrees at the top able to catch air and still maintain great control great board movement
00:30she's so so strong. Yeah Anna Martinez a former freeride world champion former freeride junior
00:38world champion so many junior world champs in this world tour field and Anna popping another
00:44feature up top this couloir is getting more and more difficult to ride and it kind of studies
00:49under the wing of uh of four-time freeride world champion Marion Airty there in Chamonix and you
00:56can see the style there she's so comfortable in the steeps. Exactly Marion's done such an
01:03incredible job passing the success she's had to all the women around her she really wants to elevate
01:09snowboarding and specifically female snowboarding all across the world and you see it coming out
01:14so quickly in riders like Anna she's so confident she's got great smooth speed moving out of this
01:21couloir that really hung up quite a few riders. I mean she was having to bypass the the body holes
01:27from uh from Tom Pfeiffer and Elizabeth Gerritsen who both tumbled out of there and Anna Martinez
01:32now into this section of the face where it does get a little bit easier but the snow is still
01:36tricky we saw our first rider of the day in the snowboard men's field Conrad Nivet struggling in
01:41this section because the snow is quite variable you never exactly know what it's going to be from
01:44turn to turn. Exactly and she's she's making quick work of that middle section and on her way to the
01:50far rider's left side of the venue where again she's able to take a few more hits get a few more
01:58pops and just continue to build her score. Yeah Anna Martinez making short work of this face getting
02:06another air that transition from bright to dark and back to bright I mean your pupils are having
02:10to dilate to adjust hopefully you got the right goggle lens I don't know what the right lens is
02:14when it's dark and bright uh at the same time you need a photo chromatic one so Anna Martinez now
02:20on this you can see there are sections of the face where the snow is still really nice
02:24yeah and she's found a beautiful rider you can see she's working her way through the
02:30bushy and rocky section and very aware of how much the snow is changing
02:36well Anna Martinez now entering the lower section of the La Bamba face she has stacked this run with
02:42features all of them adding to the line score five categories for the judges line standing at the top
02:49of those the difficulty of your line is what makes or breaks the rest of the score as Anna Martinez
02:56definitely opting for a challenging line one more feature there just before the finish and she is
03:02through the arch and down the relief that just washes over a rider when they come through that
03:08finish line well it feels so good first snowboard woman down really showing such strong riding such
03:16strength look at this technique in 53 degree face she's able to move the board put it where she
03:23wants and stay really strong on her feet you can see that crossfit background that she has
03:29she's a powerful rider and it really shows
03:34yeah physically strong mentally strong i mean just the the mental fortitude to be able to be
03:40up there all day you know the the riders were helicoptered to within about a 10 minute hike
03:47of the face but that 10 minutes was terrifying um you know harness and fixed rope required to get up
03:53to the summit so to be up there all day and then lace a run like that that's such such a strong
03:57mental game for anna martinez a young french rider showing why she was on the podium in the
04:04overall last year the freeride world tour as she now waits for the judges the judges are going to
04:08set the bar for the category with this score then the other riders are going to be looking to
04:13maximize so 72.67 as anna martinez moves into the hot seat for snowboard
