The Life and Times of Lord Louis Mountbatten: Ep2 - The Kings Depart (1917-1922)

Louis Mountbatten reflects on his connections with the Russian Imperial family and the profound dismay experienced by the British Royal Family following their overthrow and subsequent assassination. Following the United States' entry into the war, Mountbatten travels to the Western front alongside Haig, although this visit is not depicted. He anticipates the July offensive that ultimately leads to the armistice, and after enduring the constraints of wartime naval service, he looks forward to a more enjoyable period. Mountbatten spends two terms at Cambridge before embarking on a world tour with the Prince of Wales in 1920.

Upon his return, he is appointed to lead a small naval contingent during the 1921 state of emergency and later serves on HMS Repulse, coinciding with the passing of his father, who had been reinstated as Admiral of the Fleet. Mountbatten is subsequently invited to join the second tour of the Prince of Wales, which includes a visit to India, where he develops a passion for polo. It is during this time that he proposes to Edwina Ashley, and they marry upon his return. Their honeymoon takes place at Broadlands, her family estate, and includes travels across Europe and America. Their time in Hollywood, hosted at "Pickfair," is captured in a home movie created by Charlie Chaplin, featuring various guests at the gathering.
