19 January - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good morning to you. Welcome to your latest weather update provided by
00:05the Met Office. We start off this new working week with an
00:08area of low pressure just pushing towards the north-west of the UK. This is providing
00:12a cold front that's already been moving across Northern Ireland, western areas of Scotland
00:16with some patchy outbreaks of light rain here first thing. This will slowly move its way
00:21south-eastwards today, eventually arriving into northern areas of England later on in
00:25the afternoon. There are some mist and fog patches around
00:28first thing as well. Those will slowly clear as we head throughout the day and particularly
00:32for Northern Ireland and Scotland, we will see some clearer and perhaps sunnier spells
00:36developing at times. Temperatures here in the north-west climbing
00:39towards 8 or 9 degrees Celsius, but where the cloud is most persistent across areas
00:44of England and Wales, it is still going to feel quite chilly out there. Temperatures
00:47only 4 or 5 degrees Celsius here. During the forthcoming night, we'll continue
00:53to see this mixture of variable cloud amounts, some outbreaks of rain and drizzle. If you
00:58do, showers starting to push their way into north-western areas of Scotland as well. Further
01:01mist and fog is also possible in places. But where we do start to see the cloud breaking,
01:07once again, temperatures will be dropping off and there will be some patchy frost first
01:10thing on Tuesday morning. But even if you avoid the frost, it certainly still is going
01:15to be quite a chilly start to the day. There will be those continuing outbreaks of
01:20rain and drizzle throughout Tuesday as well, particularly for northern Wales into northern
01:25England. A few more scattered showers pushing into north-western Scotland that could be
01:28on the sharp side as well. But hopefully elsewhere, we'll start to see a touch more brightness
01:33and a touch more sunshine arriving in places, particularly compared to the amount that we'll
01:38see today. Temperatures, though, still struggling a little bit for the time of year, around
01:435 to 7 degrees Celsius. For the weather coming towards us during the
01:49latter stages of this week, our attention does turn towards the Atlantic, where we're
01:54going to see a very powerful jet stream start to pick up this area of low pressure and rapidly
01:59deepen it as it travels across the Atlantic. Particularly by Thursday, we see a lot of
02:04isobars developing on the charts here, indicating that is a very deep and very powerful system.
02:10It will continue to move towards us as we head into Friday with some very strong winds,
02:15heavy rain and also some snow possible at times. So it is certainly worth staying up
02:19to date with the forecast because some disruption is possible from this system. We'll have
02:24many more updates on that on our YouTube channel. There'll be a full week ahead forecast
02:28as well later on in here. So do subscribe to make sure you're aware of when that's uploaded.
02:33We'll see you again here later on. Enjoy your day. Bye bye.
