00:00Had some chances there in the second set, felt like you know I was in good
00:08position playing well enough to close it out in two and yeah I feel like she
00:13played really well on a lot of big points and made it really tough on me
00:18you know maybe maybe a couple shots there on those match points in the
00:24second set that I would have played a little bit differently looking back but
00:27you know it's easy to look back and say this is what I would have done
00:31differently but yeah was really tough there in the third set and happy to get
00:38the win for sure. Any questions? Hi Emma, when you are into a third set do you
00:46feel as though it's more a test of physicality and endurance or a mental
00:53test and will of you against the opponent? For me I feel like it's a more
01:01of a test of mental will than anything I've worked really hard on my fitness to
01:07be able to go three sets and play over two hours three hours whatever it takes
01:14so yeah I feel like my fitness has definitely paid off here in the in my
01:22first four matches so yeah I feel like it's more mental toughness and than
01:28anything I feel like you know I haven't been playing my best today was
01:32definitely the best match I played I feel like every match I've been getting
01:36a little bit better but yeah it's tough when things get really close and you've
01:40been out there for over two hours and you feel like you know you're not you're
01:44not playing your best it's definitely a test of will and toughness. Courtney?
01:51Do you have any recollection of the 2018 meeting with Iga Svijantic and Charleston ADK?
01:57Yeah I actually do when I look back at my tennis career I feel like there were
02:05not too many times when I was totally blown off the court and I definitely was
02:10kind of blown off the court playing her I think maybe at the time she was ranked
02:15200 or something and yeah we played at my home club in Charleston and
02:21yeah I was like wow this girl's pretty good. Circumstances are definitely
02:27different now I feel like I'm pretty good too so you know I'm ready for a
02:32good challenge. When you watch her now does she play the same so how different
02:39of a player is she I know physically and experience and stuff but just visual
02:44like is she was she just more of a pure power player back then like what do you
02:47feel like about being blown off the court by her? I just felt like I kind of didn't have a
02:52chance and I mean I was a way different player in 2018 that I am now I felt like
03:00I didn't have the power I didn't have speed I didn't have really anything that
03:07that could challenge her you know I felt like I would I would just put balls in
03:12the court and she would hit winners it was kind of like a little bit of a
03:17clinic so yeah but I feel like I've you know I'm a totally different player now.
03:24My question is also about three sets so you just mentioned about strength
03:31mentality and fitness but you have your tennis has a lot of varieties and do you
03:38think that you know when the match goes longer you can analyze your players and
03:44you can adjust because you have such a you know many options so do you think
03:49that is a reason that why you are good at the three sets? Yeah maybe it's
03:54definitely something that I can hang my hat on a little bit that I have a lot of
03:59tools in the toolbox and I can bring different things out when I need and
04:06yeah definitely utilize the slice a good bit there in the third set and
04:12yeah I definitely rely a bit on my defensive skills and my ability to move
04:19laterally but also move up and back and yeah it's definitely something that I
04:24think you know helps me especially when I'm playing a player like her that makes
04:30me hit so many different types of shots yeah it's it's for sure something that
04:35that helps me. Do you prefer to play three sets against Iga? I prefer to win in two sets
04:46that's yeah that's that's a goal but we'll see what happens. Are there ways
04:56specific ways in which your deep runs in Grand Slam tournaments last season might
05:04have taught you things things you learned about how to do that that you
05:08can apply now if it can help you this time around? Yeah I think you know I
05:15used to look at Grand Slams as I don't know a bit more than they are I guess
05:22and never really felt comfortable at Grand Slams until probably US Open and
05:30you know I was kind of thinking after the match today that when I made
05:36quarterfinals US Open I felt like wow this is this is pretty insane but now
05:42being quarterfinals here in Australia it kind of feels like you know this is
05:46where I'm supposed to be and I feel like you know this is what I prepared for and
05:51planned on so yeah it's definitely definitely different and probably yeah
05:58I think I just go into Grand Slams with a bit more confidence than I used to.
06:06You mentioned in your on-court interview hearing the staying alive and then you
06:12wrote that on the camera I'm just curious do you ever think ahead of time
06:15about what you want to write on that TV lens? No I don't think ahead of time I
06:21actually this was the first tournament I've ever signed the camera so yeah I'm
06:28getting more comfortable signing the camera and I think maybe after my first
06:33match I just put something pretty generic but now I'm kind of having fun
06:37with it and yeah it's something growing up I always saw the best players signing
06:43cameras so to be signing cameras now is pretty cool.
