00:00Hello, everyone. This Australia Day, I'm speaking to you from Admiralty House in Sydney, on
00:07the lands of the Cammeraygal people. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present,
00:13and I extend that respect to First Nations people on lands across Australia. As 2025
00:19begins, Australia has so much to celebrate. Our story is the story of who we are and the
00:25nation we continue to shape and build, including 65,000 years of continuous Indigenous culture,
00:31our democracy and our institutions of government, and our modern chapter of success, optimism,
00:37belonging and progress, underpinned by over half a century of remarkable multiculturalism.
00:43That story is reflected in the depth and diversity of the extraordinary people from
00:48across the nation who are recognised in today's Australian Honours list. Congratulations to you
00:54all. Thank you for your work of care and service to our nation. To read your stories is to be
01:00reminded that care, kindness, respect and love, and contribution to communities across the country
01:06are what matter most to all Australians in every sphere of life. Caring for children and young
01:13people, walking alongside the most vulnerable and marginalised, working in business and industry,
01:18the creative arts and the defence forces, in sport and science and so much more, to underpin
01:24our hopes for the future. As writers, teachers, doctors, athletes, actors, scientists, public
01:31servants, soldiers and volunteers, you inspire pride and contribution in others, because you
01:38embody the best of us, and we are grateful to you all. This year we mark the 50th anniversary of
01:45Australia's Honours and Awards system. Make sure to look out for events happening across the country
01:51to celebrate five decades of uplifting and honouring great Australians. I hope to see
01:57many of you there. An Honours and Awards system is only as good as the people it recognises,
02:03just like the extraordinary Australians we recognise today. I'm so optimistic for what
02:08the next 50 years of Honours and Awards will reflect about our modern and diverse Australian
02:13community. Nominating and honouring our fellow Australians is a meaningful way of saying as a
02:20nation, thank you, just as we do today. Congratulations to all of the 2025 Australia
02:27Day Honours recipients. With all Australians today, we celebrate you.
