00:00Last week in my inbox I seem to get quite a few emails about the most searched for Starbucks
00:10item on their menu and it was a caramel macchiato. Now I've never had a caramel macchiato so
00:18I was intrigued because I usually go for like a latte, a vanilla latte. So here I am, you
00:25can see Starbucks behind me. I'm going to go through the drive-thru and see what it's
00:30like because in these emails it was how to make it at home and save yourself some money.
00:38So before I do that I need to know what the real deal actually looks and tastes like so
00:44let's go. So this is what I've just got. I've just taken the lid off so I can see what it
00:49looks like through the drive-thru before anyone says the engine is off in the car park. I was
00:57expecting some caramel drizzle on the top. Maybe it's because it's in one of the takeaway cups that
01:03I haven't got it or maybe they've just made a mistake but anyway this is £4.75 worth of
01:11drink. It's a medium caramel macchiato so I'm going to try it now and see whether it's worth
01:16£4.75. So I've tried it. Starbucks behind me where I've just been through the drive-thru. £4.75
01:24that's a lot of money for a drink that's that big. It's alright. Would I pay £4.75 again for it?
01:35Probably not. It's very sweet and I do like sweet things because like I said before if I was going
01:42to order something just normally I'd probably go for a skinny vanilla latte. This is very sweet.
01:48Would I say it's caramel flavoured? No I can't pick out the caramel. It tastes like a vanilla but I
01:54do know it's got vanilla syrup in it so that's probably what it is and they haven't put any of
01:58that caramel drizzle on the top. I would also say that it tastes very weak. Now I don't know whether
02:03that's a Starbucks thing or not. I do like a Starbucks but it's not a strong coffee flavour.
02:09Maybe I should have asked for an extra shot but I just wanted it standard so I can see what my
02:15homemade one will be like in comparison. Okay so I'm here in my kitchen with my coffee machine and
02:23all the ingredients that I need to make this caramel macchiato. So I've got my milk, my vanilla
02:31syrup, I've got caramel drizzle and this is an espresso pod and actually a Starbucks blonde
02:38roast so it is a proper Starbucks one. So it says that I've got to put some vanilla syrup into the
02:47bottom of a glass. I don't know how much doesn't state so I'm going to eyeball that one. Then I
02:54need to put some frothed milk so I'm going to do that over here and then I need to put my espresso
03:03shot in the top and then put a layer of syrup in. How far should I fill that up to, about there?
03:18Right now let's put the pod in the machine.
03:29Right so that's the espresso part of it done and I meant to just pour it straight into the syrup
03:37and milk mixture so
03:43and then I've got to add some caramel drizzle. Right for the drizzle I've just googled it and
03:50I've seen that in Starbucks, I didn't get it on my drive-thru but it's meant to be like criss-crossed
03:56so that's, that might be a bit too much, oh I haven't done that very well. Anyway I'm sure
04:03it'll taste all right. So here it is my homemade caramel macchiato made with Starbucks coffee.
04:11I've got to say a real triumph, I was really impressed. This one to me tasted better than the
04:17one I got from the actual Starbucks. For one it actually had some caramel in it and I think
04:24the fact that it was a smaller amount of milk made the coffee taste stronger. It was just a
04:30more enjoyable, less sweet, there was probably a bit less syrup in the
04:35concoction so yeah it was highly enjoyable and cheaper.
