00:00As a matter of fact, Karnataka and Jharkhand share a lot of commonalities, especially when
00:20it comes to the grain, the special grain millet.
00:24It is understood that since ancient times, millets were grown and Karnataka and Jharkhand
00:31are among the leading states in millet production.
00:35It is also a matter of pride for the whole country that indigenous people, the tribals
00:42of these two states are still leading the cultivation of millets.
00:48I personally take pride in this as I belong to the tribal community of the Uraus of Jharkhand
00:55and millet has always been the staple part of our diet.
01:01Millet once seen as a food of the poor is now being the most appreciated grain and is
01:07being most sought after grain of the world.
01:11However, with time and again we have seen that how rice and wheat has replaced the millets
01:18in our plates.
01:19But however, considering the importance of millet in our diet, for our health, for the
01:29importance of countering the climatic challenge, it is important for all the responsible government
01:36to focus in millet cultivation and specially in order to balance the over-dependency of
01:43our population in the grains like rice and wheat.
01:49This initiative is not only helpful for us but also for the coming generations that will
01:56be here to witness this great revolution.
02:00I think Karnataka and Jharkhand as a state can come together to help the farmers, specially
02:07the farmers that are shifting towards millet cultivation and provide a more stronger market
02:14for these farmers.
02:17Jharkhand also as a state is focused towards strengthening this millet revolution and for
02:23increasing the millet production in our state, we have designed a policy, Jharkhand Millet
02:28Mission which was launched in 2024 to 2025, where farmers are giving incentives of rupees
02:353000 per acre up to 5 acre for taking up cultivation of millets in their land.
02:42Beside this, we have lot more focuses or focus on FPOs that are connected with millet production.
02:51There will be a huge role of the various institutions in the coming time like ICR,
02:58IMR, state representatives, state universities, KVKs etc. to help the extension functionary
03:05become more strong so that we can train our farmers for this new market and to cater this
03:12developing market.
03:14I am also pleased to inform you all that Jharkhand's ragi revolution has recently become
03:21the case study for Harvard Business School.
03:24There is a small district in Jharkhand called Gula and it's a tribal district and today
03:31it has undergone a silent ragi revolution and once this district was poverty stricken
03:38and known for the down produce but today this district is helping our entire community.
