Metal artist Luke Perry is about to create a project based on reserved occupations in the local area during World War Two. He's asking people to get in touch with him if they had relatives involved.

00:00My name is Luke Perry and I'm a public monument sculptor in the Black Country
00:03and the project that we're working on at the moment is something that's very
00:08close to my heart and that is about reserved occupationists. So in the Second
00:11World War there were some people whose jobs were so critical to the actual war
00:17effort that they weren't allowed to be conscripted or to go off and fight
00:21themselves. These were people everything from agriculture to policemen to all
00:27sorts of things but particularly in this area it were people like chain and
00:31anchor makers and we've been able to get a grant from the Arts Council to make a
00:35piece of artwork and to do community engagement to share the idea of who
00:39these amazing people were and also to make a piece of artwork about this and
00:44to showcase how important a part of the history that is. But what I'm looking for
00:50is for people to contact me on mr.l.perry at gmail.com or to go on to my
00:57website which is ihsartworks.com and to get in touch if they have any stories
01:03about reserved occupationists or their family were and that'll be people who
01:07were working within the metal industry in this area from 1939 to 1945 so that's
01:13mr.l.perry at gmail.com or ihsartworks.com or of course
01:19alternatively Luke Perry Sculptor on Instagram so thanks very much and I hope
01:25to hear from you
