00:01Axel Rudikibana has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum fixed term of 52 years for the murder of three girls and attempted murder of 10 other people.
00:13The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to all 16 offences he faced on the first day of his trial at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.
00:20Alistair Silva, a Queer 9, BB King 6 and Elsie Dot Stancombe 7 died following the attack at the Taylor Swift-themed class in a seaside town shortly before midday on July 29th last year.
00:32The defendant, who was 17 at the time of the killings, admitted their murders as well as the attempted murders of eight other children and two adults.
00:40Some disturbing and shocking details were revealed during the sentencing on Thursday.
00:45The court were told that in all 13 people suffered stab injuries, three of whom were killed.
00:50Many of the stab wounds that were inflicted caused bony injury, which suggests they were inflicted with a severe degree of force.
00:57Prosecute Deanna Hia-Casey told Axel Rudikibana's sentencing, having researched atrocities committed by others, the evidence suggests he set out to emulate them.
01:07There is no evidence he ascribed to any particular political or religious ideology. He wasn't fighting for a cause.
01:14His only purpose was to kill and he targeted the youngest, most vulnerable in order to spread the greatest level of fear of outrage, which he succeeded in doing.
01:23It's really unfortunate for the families that it took to go to the day of the trial before he pleaded guilty.
01:29The scary thing is why he chose children to cause that terror and harm.
01:33You know, if you're going to do that, there's an awful lot of other things you could without destroying children's lives, which is just callous.
01:41He's not mentally ill. He knows what he's doing.
01:44I think it hit people because it's three young kids. It would be horrible for anybody to die, but three young kids.
01:49I think that's that's why it's hit people so hard, you know, all over the country, not just around this area.
01:55Whilst under arrest at the police station after the incident, Axel Rueda-Cabana was heard to say it's a good thing those children are dead.
02:02I'm so glad, so happy.
02:05Cardiff-born Rueda-Cabana further pleaded guilty to possessing a knife on the date of the killings, which he bought on Amazon,
02:12production of a biological toxin, ricin and possession of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing to commit an act of terrorism.
02:21The terrorism offence relates to a PDF file entitled Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants, the Al-Qaeda Training Manual,
02:28which he is said to have possessed the rice in a deadly poison.
02:32And the document was found during searches of the home in Banks, which he shared with his parents, who are originally from Rwanda.
02:40Whole life orders can normally only be imposed on criminals aged 21 and over, but can be considered for those aged 18 to 20 in exceptional circumstances.
02:49However, although Rueda-Cabana is now 18, he does not fall into this category as he was 17 when he committed his offences.
