00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the TELESUR headquarters
00:57in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:58Now we begin with the news, stay with us.
01:16The president of Venezuela, NicolĂĄs Maduro, ratified his support to the Colombian government
01:20in the face of the violent unleash in Catatumbo.
01:23During the commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the popular revolution of January 23, 1958,
01:31the Venezuelan head of state highlighted the work of the Independent Minister of Justice
01:35and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, due to the conflict between the armed groups unleashed in Catatumbo.
01:40In this context, he reiterated all the dispositions of the Venezuelan government to build together
01:45with Colombia a region of peace and union in Bolivar.
01:55And starting just on January 22, Diosdado was there in Catatumbo on the Venezuelan side,
02:02because later they tried to manipulate the information and that Diosdado had invaded
02:07Colombia.
02:08No, no, no, no, no, no.
02:12We love Colombia, we respect it, and we support it in its struggle for peace, and President
02:18Petro knows it, the Colombian society knows it.
02:24That from Venezuela it will always have our integral support, for peace, to build Colombia
02:29and Venezuela, a region of peace, of prosperity, of union in Bolivar.
02:41In Colombia, at least five people were injured by the motorbikers loaded with explosives
02:48near a military base in Cauca.
02:51The attack coincided with clashes in the areas in the context of the armed conflict that
02:56is taking place in the South American country.
02:59According to the army, since October 2024, 500 explosives have been destroyed and 12
03:05members of these structures have been captured or subdued.
03:11However, the attack persists, which has generated concern for the safety of the civilian population.
03:17In this regard, the authorities emphasize that investigations are being carried out
03:22in the areas of the incident to identify those responsible.
03:33A video for the Colombian armed forces is circulating in the media and social networks
03:38in which they state that a conflict in Catatumbo is the result of attempts by armed groups
03:43to control the land and illicit business.
03:47It is a great honor for me, as commander of the army, to receive you here in the canton
03:55of our Brigade 30.
03:56In Cacuta, you have been deployed from where you were in the 4th Division precisely to
04:00attend to a special situation that has been occurring in this department.
04:05What is the situation about?
04:12There is a confrontation between organized armed groups in this area, the 33rd Degree
04:18and the Northeastern War Front of the ELN.
04:21These structures, until a few days ago, did not have any problems.
04:25They were in the same areas, they shared the territory, and also shared their illegal finances.
04:31But they entered into a confrontation precisely because of what these armed structures are
04:36fighting for, for illicit economies.
04:45In Bolivia, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, TSE, confirmed that the general elections
04:51will be held on August 17th, a date that cannot be changed, as announced by its President
04:56Óscar Jacinto Fell.
04:59The organization detailed that in case of a second rally, it will be held in October,
05:04while on December 17th, a national meeting for democracy will be held with government
05:08authorities and political representatives to shield the electoral process and guarantee
05:13its development within the established deadlines.
05:17In addition, they have detailed that TSE is working on a new electoral cartography based
05:23on Law 1016 and 14, which redistributes the seats among departments according to the 2024
05:33consensus.
05:34The elections will elect the President, Vice-President, 130 deputies, 36 senators and 9 Supreme States
05:41representatives.
05:54In Bolivia, night departments and 320 municipalities are on alert due to the rainy season and the
06:04increased risk of natural disasters that threaten floods in several regions.
06:08Our correspondent, Federico Molares, tells us the details.
06:15The rains are increasing throughout the country, and the National Meteorological and Hydrological
06:19Service declared an orange alert due to the threat of overflowing rivers and floods.
06:27The load coming from the highlands and the valleys is coming down to the lowlands, and
06:31this may generate overflows in the rivers.
06:33An alert has been issued from January 19th to 31st because we still have rains as we
06:37have seen in the highlands and valleys, and this may affect those sectors.
06:43In the city of La Paz, the municipality called on the population to be alert to official
06:49reports due to the risk of damage caused by rains, and requested that the use of false
06:54information through networks and the media cease.
07:02We ask that false information is not circulated on social networks and also by some media
07:07that echo these videos without verifying their veracity.
07:11They cannot show images of 2021 as if it had happened yesterday.
07:15This is not only generating anxiety, but it also takes away our operational capacity,
07:22and we are going to review cases, which in reality there are none.
07:25Yesterday, it happened in four places, for cases reported in Cotahuma.
07:31So there is a bad media intention.
07:38The civil defense reported that more than 50,000 families have already been affected
07:43by the effect of the rains.
07:48Twelve municipalities have been declared municipal disasters.
07:51Eleven are in the Department of La Paz and one in the Department of Beni, and we have
07:5555 affected municipalities, 664 communities, 34,034 affected families, 16,136 affected
08:03families, for a total of 50,171 families.
08:11The official report indicates that since last November, when the rainy season began, a total
08:16of 18 people have died as a result of this natural phenomenon.
08:24We have 452 houses affected, 296 houses that are destroyed and are being evaluated by the
08:32state housing agency to proceed to their replacement if they meet the requirements.
08:39Also the 18 deceased people are counted.
08:46The rainy season started in November and will last until the beginning of March, according
08:50to forecasts from the Meteorology and Hydrology Service.
08:54The maximum intensity of rainfall is expected in February.
08:57Fredy Morales, Telesur, Bolivia.
09:04In the island's capital, Bangkok, the number of schools forced to close due to the severe
09:09air pollution rose to more than 350, the highest number in five years.
09:14By Friday morning, 352 of the 437 schools under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
09:23has closed their doors after it affected thousands of students.
09:27The Thai capital is the seventh most polluted major city in the world according to the Swiss
09:32air quality technology company IQAir.
09:36Air pollution is seasonal in the Southeast Asian nation as cold air is sent in the winter.
09:42Air combines with smoke from burning cars, stubble and car fumes.
09:47With this in mind, Bangkok officials have announced free public transport for a week
09:52starting on Thursday in an effort to reduce traffic.
10:22Welcome back to From the South.
10:35In Mexico, protesters broke out in Gula, Quinzinaloa after the death of two children and their father
10:41in a cattle-related shooting.
10:44The boys, aged 9 and 12, were killed along with their father when they were caught in
10:49a crossfire during an attempt carjacking linked to factions in the fighting within
10:56the Quinzinaloa cartel.
10:57Thousands of demonstrators marched from the boys' schools to local government offices,
11:02demanding justice and an end to the escalated violence that has gripped the city.
11:08A stronghold of the Quinzinaloa cartel has seen daily shootings as rival factions battle
11:13for control.
11:20We want to be able to go out at any time and be calm, without fear, to be able to go to
11:25school without fear, in peace.
11:28The authorities and the unions, who are supposed to protect the workers, the families and everyone
11:33else, should join us, they should not be afraid.
11:36We will continue to work, but please don't hurt the children.
11:42Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported on the installation of care centers, which
11:48are carried out within the framework of the Mexico Plan.
11:52The attention centers are going well.
11:57I was informed at the security meeting that there are two that are finishing setting up
12:00tonight.
12:01And the others will be ready by Saturday, probably by the end of the week, so everyone
12:12will have this information.
12:17The Mexican President also thanked the Business Coordinating Council for creating 35,000 jobs
12:23for Mexicans who are the poor from the U.S.
12:30I even remind you that we thank them, because they are offering about 35,000 job vacancies
12:35at this moment for Mexicans who could be deported from the United States and who will be received
12:40in the centers of attention.
12:46Mexican migrants contributed at least 10 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product, equivalent
12:52to two trillion dollars.
12:53They also made the growing demands of the U.S. labor market.
12:57Let's take a closer look with our correspondent, Antonio Aranda.
13:04Various academic studies confirm that migration has economic benefits for the countries that
13:08host these people.
13:13Ariane is a migrant.
13:15She has been living in Mexico for four months.
13:18She works in a creamery and earns $100 a week.
13:21Half of that money stays in the local economy.
13:23The rest she sends to her family.
13:29We work to subsist ourselves and also to send money to our families.
13:38In the different countries, depending on the immigrant, the contribution is really significant.
13:43We are talking about having a contribution in the economy of the country.
13:46We really try to be helpful, compliant, responsible to comply 100 percent.
13:51A report by the International Organization for Migration indicates that migrants contribute
13:58to increasing the productivity of the receiving country, whether they are skilled or unskilled
14:03labor.
14:06We work from 7 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, and we are always sending money,
14:10all the time, weekly, biweekly, monthly, but we are always sending.
14:15The migrants that are here, we try to save the money to be able to sustain and pay rent
14:20and pay for everything we need to pay.
14:27In the case of the United States, the value of goods and services from the Latin community
14:32amounts to $3.6 trillion, highlights a report presented at the morning conference of President
14:37Claudia Sheinbaum.
14:43If Latinos in the United States were a single economy, they would be the fifth largest economy
14:48in the world.
14:49They would be smaller than the United States as a whole, China, Japan and Germany, Latinos
14:54in the United States would be second only to those five countries.
15:05Twelve million Mexican migrants live in the United States, and last year, they sent $65
15:10billion in remittances, highlighted President Sheinbaum.
15:18Mexicans in the United States contribute to the national economy with remittances that
15:21represent their love for their family, their love for their country, and we thank them
15:25and call them heroes and heroines.
15:31But also Mexicans contribute to the economy of the United States.
15:40Due to economic integration, mass deportations of migrants in the United States could cause
15:45an increase in the inflation rate, explains this specialist.
15:52Let's assume that they do put in the natives, then of course prices go up and the services
15:56that the Latinos, the Mexicans, the undocumented are doing, all those kinds of things that
16:07are actually below the price of the cost that is paid and that they consume less, but produce
16:11a lot.
16:12There is a lower level of inflation at the moment that there is no clear inflation that
16:16can go up.
16:21In the United States, the arrival of migrants of productive age helps to mitigate the lack
16:26of native labor caused by the aging of the population.
16:29Antonio Aranda, Telesur, Ciudad de Mexico.
16:32Let's take a last break, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube channel at Telesur

17:16Welcome back.
17:26In Palestine, the foreign ministry condemned the new violent escalation of Israel against
17:31the West Bank.
17:32The authorities stress that this escalation in this area is part of Israel's expansionist
17:37plan and these attacks represent a direct extinction of what happened in Gaza.
17:43On the other hand, the ministry indicates that international organizations such as the
17:47UN are incapable of guaranteeing the ceasefire, so they must assume the consequences and legal
17:53responsibilities of the case.
17:55In this context, the Palestinian resistance is securing a military operation in the West
18:00Bank in response to the attacks of the Zionist regime.
18:13And now, changing topics, the Children of the World Museum was inaugurated in Kosovo,
18:25a place that commemorates the fear left by the conflict between 1998 and 1999.
18:32The new gallery, which is located in Pristina, the capital of that territory, has a larger
18:37number of objects from children who lived during that time, such as toys, letters, videos,
18:42and photographs, which describe the fight, the hiding, and the fear during the armed
18:47conflict of those years.
18:49The museum director stresses that it's open aims to educate visitors about the harmous
18:54reality of children in the world and the mark it leaves for the later years, in addition
19:00to filling in the information gaps surrounding the situation.
19:04The director also notes that the exhibitions and narratives seek to be a platform for the
19:10visibility and collective memory of victims.
20:10more we talk better it is so I'm really grateful to organizers that brought this amazing exhibition
20:17together with not only drawings but many objects and I see it brings like it brings you back
