Police have thwarted what they believe to be an international arms smuggling operation.

Two boats carrying a significant weapons cache, including military-grade firearms, were intercepted by marine police about one nautical mile southwest of Sungai Perai, during a Chinese New Year special operation.

00:24State Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Hamzah Ahmad told a press conference on Tuesday that
00:29four suspects, including two Indonesian nationals, were arrested.
00:34The weapons seized include an M4 carbine rifle, a lighter variant of the M16 assault rifle,
00:41along with multiple handguns from well-known manufacturers SIG Sauer, Glock and Smith & Wesson.
00:49Police also recovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition and high-tech communication equipment,
00:54including a satellite phone.
00:56Commissioner Hamzah said it appeared to be the syndicate's first attempted operation
00:59in Malaysia.
01:01The suspects allegedly rented the boats locally, planning to sell the weapons to potential
01:05buyers for criminal activities or possible terrorism.
01:09Police also seized over 4,000 ringgit, two boats and passports belonging to the Indonesian
01:15suspects.
01:16All four men, aged between 22 and 57, will remain in custody until Feb. 3 while investigations
01:24continue under the Firearms Act.
