31 January - national forecast presented by Honor Criswick

00:00Hello there, good evening. Well some of us have been lucky enough to see some sunshine
00:04today but across the bulk of the country it's been quite a cloudy end to the weekend. Overnight
00:09we're not going to see much change where we've seen the sunshine today, that's where we're
00:12likely to see the clearest of skies, so across Northern Ireland, parts of Wales, parts of
00:16South West England, even to the North East of Scotland we could see some clearer spells.
00:19So that's where it's going to turn rather chilly, may even see some patchy frost by
00:23the time we reach the morning. But across a large portion of the country, remaining
00:27rather cloudy, it could be quite murky by the time we reach the morning, perhaps even
00:30seeing some hill fog and perhaps even still some drizzle around hilly areas. And we'll
00:36also begin to start to see a bit of a change from the North West, turning very windy here,
00:40a chance we could even start to see some gales across the very far North West of Scotland
00:43and some clouds starting to spill in, also some rain trying to push its way into Western
00:48parts of Scotland. So where we see the clearest of skies, particularly in the West, that's
00:52where temperatures are going to dip away overnight, but under those cloudier skies across towns
00:57and cities, widely remaining just above freezing. Now for Saturday itself, once again there's
01:03going to be quite a lot of cloud around to start the day, but the good news is it should
01:07break up fairly nicely across some sports, allowing some sunshine to break through, particularly
01:12across Wales once again, parts of South West England, even Northern parts of England could
01:16see some spells of sunshine. Perhaps even later across the very far South East, but
01:21mostly in these areas that cloud is here to stay. Still staying very windy across the
01:26North West, cloud once again starting to spill in here, perhaps seeing some thick enough
01:30to produce some drizzle at times too, and temperatures round about average for the beginning
01:35of February, perhaps something a little bit milder, just moving into the very far West.
01:41Now later on into Saturday evening, this frontal system tries to push its way into the North
01:47West. It doesn't progress too far, but it will start to spill in to parts of Scotland,
01:52parts of North West England through the beginning of Sunday. Also seeing some outbreaks of rain
01:56across Northern Ireland and still very windy, rather blustery under these under these outbreaks
02:01of rain to the clearest of the skies down across the far South East. So once again turning
02:06much chillier here, but across the North West we are starting to see some milder air move
02:10through behind this frontal system. Now through into Sunday once again, we do still have this
02:18feature across the North West, but it largely fizzles out during the afternoon, so it's
02:22going to leave behind a fair amount of cloud for any rain largely petering out by the afternoon
02:26and turning much brighter as well across Western parts of Northern Ireland, Western parts of
02:30Scotland later into the afternoon and particularly across the South East. So East Anglia, Sussex
02:34and Kent starting to see some sunshine after a cloudy couple of days. Still very breezy
02:39though once again to the North West. Temperatures once again round about average for the beginning
02:45of February, highs of around nine, possibly even 10 Celsius across the South West. Now
02:51what about as we end up going into the new working week? Well, we do still have some
02:56wet and windy across the far North West, some fronts moving in here, also a good squeeze
03:01in the eyes of bars, so often wet and windy to the North West, but just to the South East
03:05we do have high pressure starting to build, so it should be largely settled across central
03:10and South Eastern parts and that's probably where we'll see the best of the brightness.
